Thanks for your courage. These things are definitely gateway stickers. I heard Tom Morello started with some simple fretboard stickers and, the next think you know, he’s sticking a bunch of ridiculous looking sheep stickers all over his rig. Eventually, he went nuts with a Sharpie and stopped trimming the excess strings on his headstock. Sad story.

I know it all too well. I bought a set of these. Sure, they were great at first, a few fretboard here and there. Then a few became a lot, then a lot became more, and more. Next thing I knew my Les Paul went from Sunburst to Sunday paper..., my case and car were covered in bumper stickers, I was out of control. I had to buy 6 packs a day just to feel normal. There was so much resin on my fingers that my hand was permanently stuck in a G chord formation. I couldn't drop a pick if Id tried. Then one day I met a woman who saved my life. She was giving a demonstration of Goof-Off sticker remover at the mall. I've been clean and sticker free ever since!

I've used similar blocks on several guitars. I even had some custom ones made. I installed them on my fender telecaster & stratocaster the look like the real deal. I started out on a few squires and once I seen the end result I felt confident enough to put them on a high end guitars . The ones I have are removable so if you change your mind you wont ruin your guitar neck. I've had them on one guitar for over 8 years and they geld up under regular day to day playing. You can look around and there are several inlay makers. Good video.

Thank you for that info! I was wondering how long they hold up under normal circumstances. With your own experience with them and review I feel confident they will do just fine. For $10-$15 how could you go wrong? I only play out maybe once or twice a week at the most so I think they'll work just fine for me!

That's so great man that you are playing the guitar at 13. And even greater that you're enjoying it. Watch as many of these guitar channels as you can find the ones you like they're just a wealth of information and instructions. I started playing at the age of 20 I self-taught. I play drums professionally and basically picked up the guitar to learn how to how to play another instrument but mainly to be able to write songs. If you stick with it and play a little bit everyday by the time you get to my age or even half my age you'll be an amazing amazing player. I unfortunately stopped for close to 30 years. That to you is three of your lifetimes lol. But let's just say that's a very long time in anyone's life. In that time I went blind well severely blind severely legally blind. Most of my useful side is gone. I decided 5 years ago that I wanted to pick the guitar up again. I found it to be hard I didn't realize how much I depended on looking at the fretboard. 5 years later or 6 years now I'm playing the guitar again I'm enjoying it greatly and I'm getting better every time I play as you will when you play. I'm still not where I was when I was younger and I played on a regular basis and could see. But I'm playing well enough to enjoy myself to write songs again and to basically have a great time. So please stick with it if you love it now just in a few years in one year if you keep playing you're going to be so amazed at how much progress you make. Whatever kind of music you like just go for it man. You won't regret it. You might regret it if you stop for a long time like I have. If I would have stuck through it and played on a regular basis not even every day for all those years that I had stopped I can't imagine how well I'd be playing today. Even without my sight. So go for it man don't lose that love keep playing if it's not every day every other day just on a regular basis and you'll just be amazed at where you are in the near future. I hope this comment didn't seem to be weird to you or stranger or anything. I'm only trying to impart my learns experiences and hopefully it will help you become the amazing player that you want to be. All right man stay safe guitarist speak now please send comment on label

Yeah, as soon as he showed that guitar, I thought, “I don’t think that’s right. Shouldn’t the straight side be along the left edge of the fretboard?” But then I dismissed the thought only because he mentioned at the beginning that there were clear instructions to follow. So I figured this way must have been how he was instructed to do it.

Here’s my experience with fretboard inlay stickers. On rosewood or ebony, when you oil the fretboard a few times, the oil will wick under the stickers and eventually they will start to come off. I had them on 2 or 3 guitars in the past and they all fall off after about a year. Not sure about this particular brand, they may use a better adhesive, and for glossed fender fretboards I don’t imagine they would come off due to lack of needing oiled.

ALWAYS love and look forward to your posts Darrell!!! Wow! This was an interesting and risky one... LOL! (# of views and all...) I have to say, deep down, factory fret inlays are very diverse as an art and other than the boutique "makers" we all have to live with whatever limited options we get... until now. That's kind of why I don't have a Gretch on my wall, I prefer the thumbnail inlay over the block and when I find a (used) MIK Gretch it always seems to be "block"! So, sometimes the inlay is a deal-breaker! To be honest, waiting for the follow-up... (do-it!, lol!) I think at the end of the day the "long term" effects of the glue are going to affect the natural ageing and patina of any neck but especially the "woodish" type fret-board. But, hey, that's what you do, pros and cons... Thanks for exploring... (i.e. does any viewers remember the affects of "ductape" on almost any surfaces in gigging applications??!) (oh yea, let us know how the bends over the inlays feel...8) )

A friend of mine got a set for a guitar he had that came with no markers. They look good on a glossy maple board, and you can't even tell they aren't inlays as they sit quite flush. I'd imagine if your fretboard was a little more grainy or porous and not sealed, they might not look as convincing but if your using them as a visual reference, or just add some aesthetics to an inexpensive guitar(as most guitars have inlays) then it's a viable option.

I tell my students after they learned the riff/song, play it in total darkness or, when not possible at home, close your eyes. Sure sometimes its needed to look at the fretboard when change position of hand, special when u need to move more as three frets higher or lower. I am a singer too and play guitar or bass while singing, so for me it is total natural looking to the audiance and not whole time to my fretboards. Sure it only work for music u learn by heart, when improvising or in a session, than you need to see more, see what u do and more important communicate with the eyes with the other musicians. When u are on stage and play a show, eyes to the audiance. When work with band, improvising or similar, do not play in twilight it only harm your concentration and make u faster tired. Thats why in an office ever lot light.

Thanks Darrell! Maybe when you do the follow-up vid, you could also show how easy/tricky it is to remove them? Say you mess up while installing or simply don't like them...

Great videos as always. Have you tried a Godin A6 ultra? A blind A6 vs acoustasonic vs Taylor T5 would be fun. Or any other piezoelectric acoustic shoot out. Exclude semi hollow. Cheers mate.

I’ve never purchased this brand, but I have added fretboard marker decals to 3 of my guitars so far. One set looks like mother of pearl and one like abalone. Both catch the light quite nicely giving a more realistic effect. The third looks like brushed metal. It actually reflects light like real metal. So it’s a perfect accent to the chrome hardware. They all look amazing. Pretty soon, I will be working on a fourth fretboard, making markers from an intact vinyl design that I will cut into pieces. And, now that my daughter wants to play guitar too, I have fretboard marker projects lined up for her guitars too. My advice to anyone who wants to try this, is first, take your time in searching through the choices available. Select something that works with the look or theme that you have or are creating for your guitar. You want your markers to complement the rest of the guitar and work in harmony, not look awkward and out of place like they belong elsewhere. Follow all instructions carefully. All of the ones that I have purchased so far require rubbing the marker images firmly, making sure that they stick to the transparent transfer tape. That way, when you peel off the backing paper, your image stays with the tape and not the paper. Just like in this video, do not remove the transfer tape until your markers are in place and properly applied to the fretboard surface. I’ve read reviews where it was clear that people didn’t follow instructions. You do not remove the see-thru transfer tape first then expect that you’re going to remove the image decal with your fingers from the paper backing and apply it. They will scrunch, rip, and stick to your fingers. These are not regular peel-n-stick stickers. They don’t work that way. So don’t be that guy.

I habe an inexpensive Cordoba flamenco guitar that sounds GREAT. I'm convinced it was priced incorrectly. Anyways all my guitars have inlays except that one, so I think I'll try these out. It's an inexpensive guitar so I've been a little bold in my upgrades, drilling in locking strap holders, shaving my bridge myself etc. So far I haven't ruined it! Thanks for the info.

That's cool! One thing I don't like are fretboards without inlays. Maybe I'm old fashioned but that's the way I feel about it. I used to own an ESP Horizon in the 80s that had no fret markers and although it had dots on the binding it wasn't the same thing. I also just like the look of markers.

I like these! I will have to try this brand, they guy I was dealing with on Ebay in Japan stopped selling them because of he could not ship from Japan for a reasonable cost and of course COVID restrictions. I have put them on dozens of guitars and on mine they have been on some of my guitars for at least 10 years now with no issues. I was actually approached by one of the guys I do guitar work for many years ago he got a fret inlay sticker set from a guy in Japan on Ebay. He brought them to me to apply. I wasn't too crazy about the idea but agreed. I took off the strings to do it and I wanted to clean the fret board to guarantee a a good adhesion. I would do the same even though this brand you have says you can do it with the strings on. The inlay decals I put on were like the Ibanez tree of live inlays. I have to say they were very thin almost not noticeable after application. They still look great to this day. They are so thin the strings do not hit them at all so they do not wear at all. If I didn't like they way the first set I used worked i would have never bought them for any of my guitars.

I've been considering this using some vinyl and a cutter I have, but this seems like a way better option. So I ordered a set for my epiphone les paul ve, and a set for my acoustic. Spice up my cheap guitars a bit.

I put some Kirk Hammett “Skull and Bones” style fret stickers on my Jim Root Tele about 5 years ago. No issues at all to this day. No peeling, can be cleaned with lemon oil and still looks like Mother of Pearl. And looks so much better than the dot.

Thanks for your video daryl. But I have like I think even more important questions a couple. Like when you're bending a note can you feel that there's something stuck to your fretboard? Do they look natural I mean can you see the edges of them because they can't be flushed with the fretboard because it's something you're putting on top of it? So that's another question and maybe even the most important one how can you get them off? If you don't like them if you can feel them when you bend if you look closely and you can tell their stickers can you get them off easy and without any glue or anything adhesive that will adhere to the fretboard? If anyone is used these and can answer these questions for me could you please reply that would be really great. I couldn't put these on myself cuz I'm severely legally blind. But you know when I look at my firebird my Gibson I can actually see the markers. They're not as useful as it would have been when I was regular sided when I had my site. I never realized how much I depended on looking at the neck when I was playing. Now I don't bother at all. I had like close to 30 years without playing a guitar especially an electric one. So starting again was a whole new experience. I depend on muscle memory now and it's coming together. I can play again but it's often sloppy. I play it sloppy when I could see lol anyway. But it's a different type of thing. The more I play the less the sloppiness is. But again three questions one can you feel them when you play in and when you bending two can you tell the stickers. You would think that wouldn't be a concern to someone who couldn't see all that much but old habits are hard to get rid of. I mean I was worrying about my finishes on my guitar scratches swirls nicks and things. I put that aside along with like color choices to a degree. Because mostly I can't see them. Or if I do see him there's no detail. But I guess the two main questions how can you feel them when you bend and can you take them off easy without mooring your fretboard? Sincerely yours, Bob the blind bedroom guitarist

I've got a Saffire Blue stained MIM STRAT with a white pearlesent pickguard and chrome knarled Tele knob's topped in Saffire Blue Abalone, with a maple neck, I think either white pearlesent or blue abalone block's would look great on it.
