Ever wonder what happens to restaurant leftovers?
In the Philippine capital, Manila, meat is recycled from landfill tips, washed and re-cooked. It's called "pagpag" and it's eaten by the poorest people who can't afford to buy fresh meat.

As a child in the UK I was never allowed to leave food on my plate, it all had to be eaten or I got it the next meal and the next, I still would never leave food now, if you have too much on your plate you didn’t need it in the first place. I cannot imagine having to live like these poor souls, and am extremely grateful every day that I don’t have too.

That's abuse and can lead to eating disorders. No child should ever be forced to eat past the point of satiety. They should eat until they're full and not forced to go further just because somebody somewhere else in the world doesn't have enough.

i mean food prices in America are insane! fast food is cheap and easiest to obtain, then you got actual food like veggies and meats that still look like meats and not some overly processed goop and they cost waaay more. Go to any store in america and youll quickly find that only the wealthy can afford to buy the higher quality food products, they can go up to the deli counter and buy steaks and rib eyes, they can buy the organic veggies or those multi grain cereals with nuts in them or basically pretty much the more expensive but more healthy version of every product ever. It just feels oppressive as fuck over here in America, atleast when it comes to food.

I have been working in the hotel industry for 10 years. Most hotels don't even let their employees eat the leftover food (from buffet breakfasts) since there is a possibility (since it is after the designated breakfast times) that they could get sued if the employees get sick. Jesus Christ, how unfair is it that by sheer chance I was born into this life that treated me fairly all this time. And to think, there have been times that I've been so ungrateful for the things I have, like my house that's 'not big enough', the dream car that 'I cant afford', or the fancy vacation that I 'haven't saved enough for'. Goddamn I never thought I would be grateful for just FOOD. This is a strong lesson, and I will always remember this. Life is too short to only care about yourself and your own well being. There are so many people suffering, and if each person in the world could just take one person under their wing and see to their well being, that would make this world a much fairer place.✌🙏

Let's not make inappropriate comments about the situations in the Philippines. You've never grew up there and its a hard life. I moved to Canada really early in my age, I practically grew up here most of my life but I always brought the mentality not to waste food. I get upset sometimes some things don't get eaten and ends up rotten. Don't overbuy food and not finish it. There are a lot of people out who goes hungry.

Max Powers Did you not see the roaches? Rats? Maggots? All of those carry diseases. There has to be traces of feces from all these animals on the food, not to mention it’s COOKED meat that’s been left out and recooked again. That’s a recipe for disaster. The “chemicals” might be the least of my concerns. Like the man said, you have to have a strong stomach. If you were to take one bite of that, you’d end up in a hospital for a month.
@PARCE93
@PARCE93 6 жыл бұрын
Max Powers Go ahead and cook a piece of steak, leave it out for a couple of days, let’s say 3. On the 4th day I want you to recook that piece of meat, and eat it. Come & tell me how it goes. Of course they have strong stomachs, have you ever been outside of the country? How ignorant can you be? For example, the locals can drink tap water that would otherwise kill someone like you because your body isn’t used to the bacteria/parasites. That’s why they tell tourists to stay away from certain foods at places like Mexico. You’re clueless. Their immune system is ages ahead of yours. With your logic then we could all eat shit & not get sick if we just overlook the gross factor.

Oh my. There are so many ignorant non-filipinos here in the comment section. Just so you know, the vast majority of filipinos, even the poorer ones, DO NOT EAT PAGPAG. It's only the poorest of the poor who eat it and it only happens in Manila. You won't see anything like this in any province in the country because of the abundance of food there. Believe it or not, this is not exclusively a filipino "thing". Out of the 105,000,000 population, approximately 0.00000001% eat this. So please stop generalizing. Fellow filipinos, please put this on top so that these non-filipinos would be more aware. Ps. With the new mayor of Manila, this issue is currently being alleviated.

And all the kids in America complaining about school lunches Edit: it’s already a privilege to get half decent food. If your school lunch is inedible, such as being raw or rotten, you just have to do one thing. Contact the county about school food, or talk to a school’s health inspector. Solved all the problems. I’ve personally never had a problem besides the students complaining.

@@sisblink91 I can't guarantee that I can give you good descriptions cause i'm just 13 and hadn't really explored the whole philippines yet but this is what I know and learned on those 13 years. Well it really depends on what part of the PH you live. And maybe some of those representations you saw are TRUE. Philippines isn't such a clean country TBH. Philippines isn't such a rich country too. In fact were far from it. And we have lots of beggars and paupers here. They're very poor. And when I say poor, I mean REALLY POOR. I'm not being judgemental because I really saw all of those. We have rich and normal people here too. Majority of those rich people are politicians and bussinessmen. There are places that are too packed by poor people here called "skwater area" (its not the orig spelling but kinda like what we use) what you saw on the vid 👆 is TRUE. There was even this one time where we were eating in a restaurant and there was this kid who wanted money and we gave him then when he went out of the resto, his mom was waiting to get the money from him. It was like the mom ordered the son cuz people here feel more symphaty for kids. I mean they can still use it for their family though. I'm not saying all of this bad things about my country cuz I hate it but because I wanna let people be informed of what life really is here in the Philippines.
