And they also did a good job at showing pens anger too. Like she’s been waiting for him to come home for 20 YEARS and the first thing he says is “I’m not the man you fell in love with, I’m not your kind and gentle husband” and she’s originally very understanding and tries to listen, but then she gets pissed about him reiterating that he’s not the same. So she tricks him to prove to himself that YES HE IS STILL HER HUSBAND.

@jordanaluna1 i suppose that's one way, but narratively speaking it feels like she knew. Penelope is too smart and intelligent of woman to do that if I'm being honest. The injustice of her only having 1 solo in the musical doesn't truly show her. If she was resigned to marriage, why hold the throne for 20y? As soon as she married, the man would have killed Telemachus and 99% chance Penelope as well on their wedding night. She knew Odysseus was in the palace, she was waiting for him, as up until the suitor slaughter he was disguised as an old man. The only identifiable feature on him (learned yesterday) was a scar above his right knee from boar hunt in his youth. And there was servant who managed to recognize him in the Odysseus prior to the suitor slaughter, so any number of things could have happened between songs. Personally, I would write her narrative as confessing her struggles to a man hidden in shadows, after poisoning the suitors to weaken them for her husband. She would watch him kill Antinuous and listen to his small speech (the one Jorge put in Odysseus) and then calmly go back to her bedroom and make herself presentable as a wife who had waited 20y for her husband and not a queen. Knowing that suitor problem was resolved.

I adore the way you included Penelope in the sequence with Ody retelling his story and seeing that it has an impact on her too. It was an extremely heavy trauma dump that Ody desperately needed so he could start to come to terms with it, but this really showed that Penelope didn't just brush it off. She listened, heard what he'd done, but also felt what he'd been through and saw how it was affecting him and that comes through sooo well here.

3:25 and 4:03 are both really great ways to convey how much they really care for each other. Odysseus by being so angry at the request he would slam his fists in frustration and Penelope feeling so strongly that he is her husband enough to pull him in and tell him to never say such a ridiculous thing to her. Also 5:00 Telemachus being prive to their conversation and to be relieved after they reconcile is heartwarming. Really amazing animatic feels like it captured the song perfectly.

So glad the wedding bed isn't obviously still part of the tree. It always annoys me when the animatics show the olive tree still living over the bed, when the whole point of the question is that only Odysseus would know it. Well, to be fair the point of the bed is not if it is alive or not, it is that the roots themselves are still in place, hence why a person can't just move it. Although knowing what we know about Ody's patron goddess, I wouldn't be surprised if his craftmanship was so good that he made such an elegant bed without the roots being visible XD

I adore all of the expressions, but the quiet, devastated expression as Odysseus' eyes start to well with tears at 'How could you say this?' is so painful... I adore the different ways people choose to draw him in this moment, but there is something just so heartbreaking about how utterly exhausted and vulnerable you draw him, it is perfect 😢 And Penelope's thoughtful eye flicks, her reaching out when he won't let himself do the same, her trying to keep her own feelings in check but she is also so tired and hopeful, and they're both so gentle with each other but so strong in their love just ahhh I love it all! I’ve watched a lot of the animations of this and you did a lot of great work here. The grabbing of Ody when she sings “don’t tell me….” And being close to him during the “waiting…waiting…” section is great visually. It’s a wonderful depiction of the raw emotions she’s been holding onto for 20 years and is now finally able to release. Excellent work.
