When I worked at Steak 'n Shake, we used this stuff called "shake base" which by definition would be "plain ice cream". It's essentially just ice cream, with zero flavoring. The only flavoring you get out of shake base is like the natural flavor from the butter, milk and stuff like that, but there's no vanilla extract or any added flavoring. I realize it's not really relevant to the question, I just think that it's a good piece of trivia relating to the existence of plain ice cream.

I think there's more to this plain/vanilla argument. Because vanilla has also become a descriptive word that itself is roughly a synonym of plain. Even in websters dictionary vanilla as an adjective is defined as both "flavored with vanilla" or "lacking distinction: plain", so it would seem like based on some sort of colloquial transitive property, if the ice cream is vanilla, and vanilla is plain, the the ice cream is plain. The question remains, though, what came first, vanilla flavor being considered plain, or plain things being called vanilla

Both of my parents are elementary school teachers and it was really touching that you guys talked about how important great teachers are. My dad works in a really poor and struggling school (he deals with more behavior problems from kids and administrative issuss than my mum) and and hearing from his former students and their parents keeps him going. He's a few years away from retirement and still the most active and dedicated 1st grade teacher I've ever met.

I'm from New Jersey and this was a glowing review. One time I was at Newark Penn station and a man came up to me asking to bum a cigarette with a rag held on his head and proceeded to tell me he was just attacked with a screwdriver in an alley and got knocked out and he had just woken up and was covered in blood. Another time this dude asked if I wanted to go walk behind the building with him and give him a handy. Nothing like the comforts of home boys.
