So - I have accumulated quite a mic colleciton, EV RE20, Shure SM57, Rode Procaster, Broadcaster, NT1, se V7 and even an BaiFei Li V10 - but from time to time I still like using the ZDM-1 - it's such a nice and easy going mic.

Thanks for your comment, Ralf! “Nice and easy going”…that’s an apt description.

This microphone is on Amazon for $22.99, it's hard to believe. Such quality, so much value.

Wow, that's crazy cheap! That puts it cheaper than a certain ultra-budget dynamic mic I reviewed a few months back, and it sounds much better than that. Jump on it!

I use ZDM1 every day for radio broadcast...and it works just fine for me...

That’s good to know! The mic is a bargain IMO.

Thanks for the video Matthew! Question: I have 2 Zoom ZDM-1 mics connected to a Zoom H4n handheld recorder. I plugged 2 Fetheads in between my mics and the XLR-cables. It used to work perfectly. Great sound. Then something inexplicable happened. There's a crackling sound in my recordings which is gone when I remove the Fetheads. Any Idea what's going on? Maybe my XLR-cables are too long?

Hi! Sorry to hear about the trouble you’re having. First thing I would do is confirm that it’s happening with both channels, so you can eliminate it being a defective cable, mic, FETHead or input. It’s not likely to be due to cable length. It COULD however ve a problem with the phantom power if it’s happening on both channels. If you can check the mic/FETHead/cable setup on a different phantom-powered mixer, that will probably tell you a lot.

Thanks for your reply Matthew. Yes, it's happening with both channels. I replaced the cables for shorter ones and that makes no difference, as you suspected. I will drop by a music store tomorrow to check different combos, as these are the only devices I have. Thanks again!@@MatthewHaines
