I only met Robin Hobb and Naomi Novik and I managed to embarrass myself in front of both despite meeting them in different years so I can't even excuse it as a bad day. I literally fell from the stage and had Naomi Novik ask me if I was ok. I am already prepared for any other embarrassments in front of authors. Much better than finding out another one like J.K. Rowling. I can separate art from the artist only to a certain extent.

@@hiigghhggg9150 I guess that one was slightly less bad, but I was so nervous I kept saying things without thinking, including "I heard that liveship traders is better than farseer" (I had only read farseer and loved it at the time) and my friend told me after that I made it sound that the other books Hobb wrote were not so good xD It was not intentional. 1. I'd rather embarrass myself. In the story, the author is a kind person so I think they wouldn't mind and would reassure me so it would be forgotten real fast you know? 2. Good acting too! With low budget, the crew tends to go for practical effects and it can be amazing. Plus, good actors can sell you weird special effects and stuff and still bring forth a good story. I would be more picky with dialogue and scenario though. 3. 2-4 is good for me. If I couldn't DNF 1 star books for an entire year, especially since I'm a slow reader, I'd just be miserable. But I get your point! 4. If a book is good, it means the clichés are not bothering me in the end. So option one! That is the reader only pick. As a writer, I'd choose the ok book for inspiration on the trope subversion ^^ 5. I don't read a lot of books with important romance subplots. So I'd rather my MCs be interesting and not care about the background romance XD 6. I'd rather have the great ending. I don't want the lasting feeling being one of disappointment. If the ending is great, that's what will last and stay with me. 7. That's quite personal, I think? But spoilers don't ruin anytthing for me. So option 1.

With the main character/love interest question. I think it would also be depending on what type of book it was. Eg. IMO, what makes Marvel movies is the characters. Special effects and people flying around blowing things up is always fun but other movies are doing it too. For me at least, I enjoy Marvel movies because I love the character dynamic. Actors do play a part in this because I think they are perfect for their roles but what really stands out is the dialogue, character development, relationships between each of the characters, all of that. Action and the special effect is just the cherry on top. I would 10/10 go watch Marvel movie where the Avengers just sat around doing nothing because they had to quarantine themselves for 2 weeks. Also, your marital relationship is GOALS. I don't know if I ever want to get married but watching you enjoy talking about books and bookish things with your husband makes me want to find someone like that too 😊 Literally just blogging things reviews on my own because no one in my life wants to talk about books 😭😭

I would definitely rather be spoiled on a major character death than a poorly used resurrection trope. Bringing back a character from the dead is already a tricky thing to do without cheapening the initial death of that character. If you do it badly, that just ensures the death was cheapened and there was no point beyond shock value.

I never used to have a hard time separating art from artist, but I had an upsetting experience with that about something that is personal to me, so that has made it harder for me overall. We all try like you said, but sometimes it is hard. I think you should definitely appreciate the art of someone who has major flaws, though. It's just not always easy to do. It depends on how you are as an individual as well as to the specific thing they said or did because we are all sensitive to different things.

Question number one, option two actually happened to me....i still cringe, details below... (Would you rather meet your favorite author, they are really nice to you, you do something embarrassing) I went to bookcon in NYC in 2018. That year BrandoSando was there and he was the number one reason I got a ticket to go! The ticket add-on to meet him and have him sign a book was sold out within such a short time I wasn’t able to get a slot :( fortunately I had the positive energy to wait until the end of his signing hours (along with a few other fans who couldn’t get a slot) and he was soooo nice he saw us waiting and allowed for us to meet him and get a book signed!!! When it was my turn he asked if I had any questions for him. I had a hundred....and they all flew out of my head the second he spoke. All I said was “you’re my favorite. You’ve eclipsed Jane Austen and I love your work like I love hers” he responded “oh, that’s a really nice, I actually took my wife to see Pride and Prejudice on our first date” and I, like an asshole said “oh, well if it was the Kiera Knightly one, that one was bad”.....WTF IS WRONG WITH ME?!?!?!?! Excuse me, I have to go hide in a hole now.

Somehow the endings are never good enough for me, so I'm usually disappointed anyways. Thats why I don't care too much about the ending, when the rest of the book is fantastic. I often forget about the ending but the rest of the book is still very present in my brain. One time I managed to read a whole bookseries but left the last 40 pages unread because I thought that I would like it more if it ends at that point. Sometimes I would rather imagine an ending on my own and try to explain the reasons for the actions etc. by myself. 😂😅

I think for the boring MC vs love interest, it depends on the book. If it's a romance bookor a book where the love interest is important, then I do prefer an interesting love interest, but if it's a book where I am inside the head of the MC (as in first person) and the love interest doesn't appear often/just isn't that important to the plot and character development, I think an interesting MC is more important. On the great vs disappointing endings, I feel like this question doesn't really make sense. Just the fact that it has a great ending makes it a great book in my opinion, especially if the rest of the book is ok. Maybe I just have low standards. Same with the cliché vs unique, the book being unique already makes it better in my view. Major character death spoiled for me definitely. I don't care about spoilers all that much to be honest, unless its like a huge plot twist in the middle of the book that completely changes the course of the rest of the book. I feel like character deaths are used as a plot device a lot, and I tend to care about the characters more than the plot most of the time.

I would rather read an OK book that's really unique and does cool things with the tropes..... because if this book is the first in a planned series and/or the first book an author has ever published, it could make me feel really excited about what'll come next. If the author listens to the feedback and keeps improving between entries, I could eventually look back on the first book and say: "It was an OK read, but the start of something amazing" and the improvement in quality over the following entries could raise how I feel about the first.

The author question is interesting, but I would much rather embarrass myself and the author be nice about it. I embarrass myself constantly anyway 😅 Also, although I can mostly separate the art from the artist, I think my two favourite authors are really nice people and them being rude would really disappoint me. I wouldn't care as much, if it was just an author I like reasonably well and don't know much about anyway (I don't know much about most authors I like, so they could be horrible for all I know). I hate spoilers, but I hate the resurrection trope more, so I would prefer the spoilers, if I had to choose 😆 I also don't get why so many people always complain about King's endings, I read all of his books except the Dark Tower series and there was not one ending I had a problem with 🙈 🙈

I would say the endings one also slightly depends on if there is a sequel. I don't really want to read the sequel to a book I didn't enjoy that much, but if the ending is amazing then I might end up doing so. (Which might then be good or bad depending on what the sequel is like of course.) If the book is good in general but has a poor ending, then reading the sequel might actually rectify the poor ending.

This was a fun video. I've met a few different authors and I never know what to say to them, so I'm much more likely to embarrass myself. It took seeing Deanna Raybourn FOUR times for me to get the courage to ask her a question during the Q&A at the book signing and I was sitting in front so I didn't have to talk loudly. Lol. The first time I met her I talked about book boyfriends and then felt ridiculous.

I totally understand Sean with King's books. I really wanted to like King, but I have a love/hate relationship with his writting. I think question #4 is tough because of its tricky wording. A book you ultimately evaluate as "good" will be objectively more enjoyable than one you ultimately evaluate as "ok" … regardless of the reasons. Rendering the rest of the question (the important bit about tropes/cliches) irrelevant. Wording aside, I'd probably pefer an excellent example of a familiar setup to a less well realized example of a unique one. Stories are a bit like music in that way (for me atleast); in that much of what I enjoy listening to within various genres is broadly similar, but finding that perfect combination of whatever qualities matter to you (instrumentation, timbre, rubato) that best encapsulates|expresses those familiar ideas is still a revelation … and why we all have favorite songs rather than just liking any ballad or any anthem.

I'm one of the minority that prefers a really good book with a bad ending. I know this is strange, but I always find that the ending is my least favourite part of any book. I'm very much a character based reader, and most of the time the best character interactions happen in the first 3 quarters of a book. The last quarter is usually much more plot focused.

1. I would much rather embarrass myself then come to terms with my favourite author being mean to me. My social anxiety can't handle angry people. 2. Casting is way more important to me than the budget. 3. I'd rather read books either 1 or 5 stars. Who knows what the ratio is. There could be 10% 1 star and 90% 5 star books. 4. I'm here for the cliche's and tropes. The way I look at it, if the book has a cliche you don't like, it doesn't count as a good book, right? 5. I rather have a fantastic MC than a fantastic love interest. I read books for the MC's not for their love interest. I quickly DNF a book if I don't like the MC because I'd rather not be annoyed all the time while reading. 6. I'd prefer great books with bad endings. I can just pretend the ending didn't happen and make my own up. If the book itself is bad, I'd rather DNF it then not enjoy myself for however many pages. 7. Spoilers over resurrection, no questions asked. Besides, I'm a very forgetful person. I can reread or rewatch something as many times as I want and there will be a lot of things I have forgotten, even character deaths. I watch spoiler reviews constantly and still have absolutely no idea what will happen. I'm not exaggerating. Sometimes having a shit memory has it's uses.

I haven’t read any Stephen King books yet, but I think I might like him since I would say I would rather a book be great all through and have a disappointing ending. It’s usually only main character deaths or something sad happening to them that will be disappointing for me, and I still like those books that have done that.
