Wow ... that train station has not changed since 1984 in the old yugolsavia..... Spent a night on that station with a German and a Canadian Backpacker drinking plum brandy before a very eventful journey to Salonika.. Happy days

Fun fact, that locomotive is American made and is usually called "Kenedijevka", built by General Motors.

we had a few of them still in Osijek, Croatia until a few years ago. The mechanics would make spare parts themselves since you can't order any. They were so loud those locos. Nowadays we have austrian and hungarian companies driving on our rails.

I have to recommend, since you're in Prilep, there is a monastery called Zrze Monastery. I urge you to go and visit it, you'll probably have to rent a car to get there, but trust me it's all going to be worth it. You might cry when you see the view, a heads-up. And the monks are so well-educated, speak English and are extremely friendly. We have been going there every year for the past 5 years, a wonderful tradition.

Very good to know. Unfortunately I’m not in Macedonia anymore :/ but I’ll keep this in mind for next time. I did make one more video in a village near prilep though (Desovo) that I’ll have finished soon. Thanks for watching :)

I am an Aussie but with Macedonian background and when I went to this station last year I had the exact same reaction 😂 The entrance I recall using to get in was under the bridge and there was a kebab stand right at the entrance Trains aren't a very popular mode of transport in Macedonia. Back in the day under Yugoslavia it would of been much popular , hence the so, e and waiting rooms at the station. They have new trains now that they bought form China, in very good condition too. They unfortunately go very slow due to the poor condition of the train tracks Nontheless it was actually very comftorble and was a really good way to see the countryside, and it's extremely cheap. Nice video bro, keep it up 👏

Actually, we also have the same train toilets in some trains here in Italy. That’s why there’s even a writing in the bathroom “do not use the toilet in the train station” so that way that don’t have to clean people’s “business”

my friend you are very lucky for traveling with yugoslavian old train. Those trains are used very rarely only when these new modern trains are regularly maintained due to a lot of electronics and chips that is maybe two or three times a year

As a Macedonian I can tell you that Macedonian, Montenegrin, Bosnian, Serbian and Croatian are South Slavic languages and are above 90% mutually intelligible. The difference is that in Croats use the Latin script, Macedonians use the Cyrillic script, Montenegrins, Serbians and Bosnians use both (but not equally, one is usually more used than the other).

A bit unusual that Serbs were the most numerous ethnic group in ex Yugoslavia and yet only in Serbia were there ‘autonomous provinces’ created, not only 1 but 2. Meanwhile no Serbian majority regions in other republics were classified as anything. Isn’t it also true that the Serbs sacrificed the most of all the ethnic groups in both world wars and for what???
@BenTheRules
@BenTheRules Жыл бұрын
If I had to guess I'd say because in Kosovo and Vojvodina the biggest ethnic minorities were Albanians and Hungarians, neither of which are Slavs. Whereas in Bosnia and Croatia the Serbs were minorities amongst other south slavs. that's the only difference I can think of. I'm not an expert on Yugoslavia at all so maybe someone who knows more can add to my response, but that's the first thing that came to mind
@stefan2serb
@stefan2serb Жыл бұрын
@@BenTheRules you are right, but 30% of the North Macedonians population is Albanian, the whole northwestern portion is majority Albanian, likewise with the very south of Montenegro (Ulcinj). Istria was formerly majority Italian. No other republic was carved up like Serbia and it really came back to bite us in the ass when it became time for Yugoslavia to fall to pieces.
