The amount of people commenting that don’t understand is mind blowing. There is a difference between having a pet horse that you ride in a pasture, and having a partner that you work with. He’s a cowboy, probably in New Mexico although that’s just a guess but wherever they are they have to deal with this type of terrain on a daily basis. They are doing their job and they are good at it. You can’t go around to the path of least resistance if everywhere you go looks like this. Riding to a shallow spot in that gully could take hours, or even days depending on the size of the spread. And by the time you get to the cow or horse your trying to get to they are already dead or long gone. He might be show boating, or trying to sell his ability as a hand or a trainer. Anyway you look at it both he and the horse have what it takes to do the job. And while it may not be part of the job where you or I’m at, it’s definitely part of the job where he is. Hats off to you sir, that’s some good teamwork.
@richardselby17113 ай бұрын
I disagree vehemently! There is no reason for this except for an extreme emergency. The rider could have rode down farther to a less dangerous area. They could have easily hit a boulder under the earth and flipped. I’ve ridden for years since I was 4 years old. Never would I endanger myself or my Horse to save a few minutes. I’ve seen too many Horses hurt permanently or put down due to rider irresponsibility. I’ve also seen men hurt and never the same for the rest of their lives for making stupid choices like this.

The rider and his horse move as one, navigating the perilous cliffs and rugged terrain with an almost unspoken understanding. Each step the horse takes is deliberate, every shift of the rider’s weight an assurance of trust. In this dangerous landscape, where one wrong move could spell disaster, the connection between them feels almost magical, a bond forged through years of shared journeys. The cliffs, though daunting, seem less imposing when viewed through the lens of their partnership, as if beauty emerges not just from the scenery but from the harmony between rider and horse, defying the dangers with grace.

Animals live longer in captivity for a reason. A wild horse typically only lives to around 15 years. Whereas captive horses live typically 25-30 years. We have a responsibility to watch out for our animals and not put them in unsafe situations. Leg injuries are relatively common in horses and sometimes there’s no fixing it. Some leg injuries are so bad the horses are put down. Why risk that? Horses are known to go until they break for the satisfaction of their owners. You are the one who is complaining when you don’t know what’s going on. People are concerned for a reason and horse owners are concerned for a reason. Yeah but this is a job where that is often necessary, that's why he's on a horse and not an ATV in the first place. Its not showboating at all. The horse here isn't a simple possession or pet but a co-worker whose job is to navigate rough terrain like this and the rider is placing a ton of trust in him to find a spot they can get down safely so they both get home safe.

I never ran my horse down the steep slopes, be we did ride down. My horses were trained, working ranch horses, and we worked cattle. Black Angus and Long Horn Cross. Again, why negative... I'll have you, know, not one time were my horses ever injured . I was just adding my experience.

Believe me when I tell you, this horse and rider are both very experienced in these situations. The rider knows his horses skill level, plus knows that the ground he is leading his horse down is soft dirt and sand with a little bit of stones, so the horse just slides down the decline like a g reat horse dose. And his rider even know how he's supposed to lean back as they start down. I've been riding horses my whole life. Used to break Mustangs in AZ at 16 years old. They are strong and hardy animals that do this type of stuff every day. Anyways cowboy and horse have a safe a beautiful day.

I have personally witnessed traditional Japanese mounted archery. It changed my view of what kind of creature horse actually is; just what they are capable of, when bred and trained with utmost dedication. Before I witnessed this up close I never understood. Perhaps the most striking is their capability of free will, proudness and temperament. I understood some of them love to work and play hard, just like some humans do. Some are docile, some are friendly. But some of them are brash, some are bold. And working with humans has granted them a meaning, a chance to become something more than in their tameless nature they ever could. And I realized some horses embrace this fact. The top horse of these archers was FIERCE. It was THE high horse people are told to get down of. It was on its hind legs all the time, making commanding noises and a general ruckus out of himself. He didn't allow anyone else ride, except the son of the headmaster - the next sensei. And still they had to quarrel a little bit to settle the fact that they're going down the range/gallery. It was extremely strong, proud and independent individual. Almost as if saying "If you want to go at it human, you better ride like a storm". And my gosh like a storm they went! Galloped with a flair and sway, like testing the rider or just bringing the show, he reaved and tore into the ground with thunderous force, it was like an unstable anomaly that could barely be contained. They were so unexpectedly fast and loud, I got physically flustered by the concussive force of the duo. Even at the end of the range the horse was sure to kick around and show who's the boss. It was a unique creature who understood it's own magnificience, selected it's own rider and did stuff only if it wanted it himself.

Try that on a good saddle mule and he'll turn to look at you like you're crazy...then buck your ass down that drop, he hawing "YOU FIRST, JERK". I've had mustangs for over 40 years. ALWAYS valued every single one, more than this guy does his pony. One thing, everyone should know that the camera has been set up to be deceptive. The drop is only vertical for a bout 4 feet then 'steps' the next little drop, then ramps out. It's why the camera isn't at 90 degrees to the 'action'. Also, the slope is slightly compacted soft dirt. I see no rocks, so you can think of it as similar to sliding down a sand dune. Still, the question remains, "WHY" ? Risk the soundness of a good trail pony for a few 'clicks?' {former Spokesman for the Bureau of Land Management's Wild Horse and Burro Program }

That hill wasn’t falling apart and unstable. It was just steep. But this dude was 100% trying to do that. Also, that scene wasn’t even filmed on a hill. They had the actor leaning super far back in the saddle and they tilted the camera. Same with the other horses. The filmmakers back whenever that movie came out knew better than to actually attempt something like that for real, even with the horses that didn’t have riders because it could potentially cause injury.
