Not that early. You turn your child into a stranger. It is good to become independent and responsible. Being away for month and no visits from parents sending the chauffeur instead is awful.

That’s all very well if the parents are educated, poppet. Unfortunately, research shows that in the USA, for example, those most likely to attempt to educate their children are the least fit to do do. Best wishes.

All depends on cirumstances, and if the school is any good.Parents working overseas? Local schools useless? Children over sensitive? Children requring discipline? Many many factors.

I work in a private school and some kids love it, I’m sure there are some kids that don’t like it, my job is in housekeeping and we are trained to look out for abuse and bullying and have to report any we think is unacceptable, I have never seen anything that I felt I had a report, I have only seen kindness and compassion and the staff work really hard to make sure the school feels like a home 👍

A third of public school kids are scholarship kids and I do wish people would educate themselves about this, shit parents are shit parents, irrespective of money. I agree that boarding school can seem unpleasant but weekly boarding as teenagers could be alright. I was a day girl at a boarding school and yes some girls rarely saw their parents as they lived overseas but some girls came home every weekend and liked the company of their friends. It was a very nurturing school however.

Here in Canada boarding schools are synonymous with genocide and indigenous abuse. At least that’s what our government says. I think the gentleman made a good point about the issues stemming from the families. Abandonement issues must play a big role. The terrain is much more rife for abuse . There’s no way for the parents to monitor their children on the daily. My mother went to boarding school out of her own volition she spoke of that period as the best time of her life. She was very gifted and her small town wouldn’t have afforded the opportunities she was seeking. I think that is key , the reasons and readiness of the child should inform this decision. Also a seven year old child is most probably not ready for such a transformative experience !
