I've had one of these trimmers for many years now. Only put a new carb on it and it still runs fine. Not mixing gas helps my decision to keep using it. I'm 70 but still can handle this with no issues. Very dependable and convenient for the additional way to start it using a battery-powered starter. Works fine. Will keep it till it dies or I do.

My dads Honda GX35 powered Line trimmer tested at 85 PSI & it has a decompression camshaft fitted & that's why the compression was that low,so that's probably why the line trimmer in the video was low on compression. I did mention before that we have had no problems using the Chinese type of spark plug which only cost me $2 AUD & which is used in the "Chonda" (Chinese Honda copy) engines in a Honda engine. In my experience when I was repairing the Stihl leaf blowers for my aunties work I managed to clean the Kill switch out on one of them I repaired,it got full of oil,dirt, dust & gunk,etc !

When it comes to weight I don't really notice it between my Echo PAS-2620 (25cc), Honda HHT25S (25cc) and my Craftsman (Troy-Bilt) 29cc units. That being said, I don't have the Craftsman anymore, just the engine as the shaft wore out, I was using my Honda up to about a week ago when it stopped working (needs new fuel lines and some carb work) and it's incredibly easy to start compared to the Echo as another commenter said, there's probably a compression release in the unit you were fixing in this video.

for me well maybe as 4 stroke aka 4 cycle stuff is not at all hard to work on depending on what needs attention and valves can be tricky for some but the carburetor aka carby is very easy and simple and as for the oil yep easy changes year after year including the spark plug and air filter and well regular cleaning the muffler/exhaust on the spark arrestor screen and yes a shoulder strap depending on the weight of the unit with the attachment as they not always the lightest for some people but for me not too bad and i think our Australian Company that was one brand here Rover has many units like these and i they also use the Troy built parts too from memory on their trimmers and leaf blowers from memory etc.

do valve covers need a specific torque setting to avoid leakage? Wouldn't a service include air filter, plug, and filter? Do you use an rpm sensor to check settings of idle and full throttle...or too much.....?
@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE
@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE 6 ай бұрын
a torque setting would be beneficial but since it's sealed with an O-ring, it just needs to be hand tight. I only replace the parts you mention if it's need. I don't typically replace parts without a reason because I find it wasteful. No I set the RPM to near the point where the clutch almost engages.

Heavy? I looked at an Ego trimmer in 2023 and thought it was heavy w/o the battery. I decided to continue to use my little, light, Craftsman V20 for mundane trimming and save my Ryobi 2-cycle trimmer for heavy-duty trimning and for my attachment's use.

I’m a 71 yr old in pretty good fitness I just switched over to to battery operated ryobi reason is weight. But I also find it very clumsy to use not balanced well at all very top heavy. I’m definitely not a fan of battery operated equipment I would never buy battery lawnmower main reason is the cost batteries go for as much as $300 completely crazy these companies are making a fortune ripping off consumers. Great video I 👍still do my own maintenance on my small engines.

All my hand-held OPE (trimmers, edgers, etc) are 2-cycle, and even being light as they are, I almost always use a support strap. My arms give out much faster if I have to support the full weight of the tool. Would I want a 4-cycle piece of equipment and all the additional weight and maintenance that comes with it? Absolutely not! If I could find a 2-cycle mower in decent condition for a decent price, I'd buy it.
