Ai, a female gorilla, celebrated her 20th birthday on February 27.
On that day, she was playing very happily with her daughter Annie.
The wounds on Ai's left arm is not quite healed yet, but it seems to be painless.

It's good to see Ai so relaxed and playful with Annie. Maybe she's ready for another baby and will be a good mother this time. I think Nene may finally be too old to care.

@@GAT-pr6dt As I said, maybe this time Ai would do well as a mother. It's always possible now that she's more mature and watched Nene raising Kiyomasa that she'll be fine. There's also the factor that Nene may have been involved both in the death of Ai's first infant and her abandoning Annie, and now that's she's older may not have as much jealousy and need to defend her dominant position in the troop as the lead female. At any rate, we need more gorillas in captivity, and if Ai can't be a proper mother again the baby can once again be hand raised, just like Annie, who turned out just fine.

@@pamcunningham9608 You took the words out of my mouth. I also believe Nene had something to do with both pregnancies. Nene was a tyrant & Ai was scared of her, so she didn't want to put Annie through a conflict with her mom. Nene was horrible to Annie & I will never forget it. She needs to retire & let Shabs & Ai have a chance to be together. Pam Ai was so young & I agree she is more mature & I think she would be a good mom..🙋

Nene had huge trauma to be captured from the wild as a little one. It has probably made her maladjusted.

Does the same evil mastermind manage all these Japanese zoos? All three families are crippled by their ancient but dominant females. Way older then they would be able to make that happen in the wild. Genki, Momoka, Nene and Toto should get a granny cage.
