y'all need to watch the actual music video. They re-did an old Public Enemy song and Scott Ian, the rhythm guitarist of Anthrax, rapped the last two verses that were originally done by Chuck D. The cool thing is Anthrax was mentioned in the original lyrics. They both respected each other. When I was a kid these were my two favorite music groups. When I found out they did a song together my head exploded. Super cool collab.

Anthrax was one of the starters of the whole Rap/Metal crossover, this was huge when it dropped. Their song "I'm The Man" was the first "rap metal" song. It's a goofy jokey song.

Ice T is Body Count. That is his band. The band formed in Los Angeles in 1990. The group is fronted by Ice-T who co-founded the group with lead guitarist Ernie C out of their interest in heavy metal music. Ice-T took on the role of vocalist and writing the lyrics for most of Body Count's songs, while Ernie C has been responsible for writing the group's music.

Scott Ian (Anthrax guitarist) is the other rapper on this track and he was pretty much the catalyst for this unlikely (at the time) collab RATM came out around about the same time and then after this you had the Judgment Night soundtrack (Hip Hop/Metal collabs) which was also really well received and had a big influence on the Nu Metal scene that would blow up in the mid to late 90s.

Scott is also a HUGE Public Enemy Fan. They did a tour together back when this was out. Chuck D credits Anthrax with teaching them how to do stadium shows. Logistically and level of spectacle required. Chuck D said in and interview, that, that tour made them really step it up.

@@greybushgames1 You do know that when Metallica was just getting started that they went to New York under advisement of their first label. Then stayed with the boys from Anthrax in their apartment. So Anthrax was already doing their thing, when Metallica hit the scene with their sound. Now another interesting thing here. When they got off the bus in New York. The boys in Metallica gave Dave Mustane his walking papers. Which would lead to Megadeth forming. Anthrax and Metallica are just two sides to the same coin. Each having their own sound. Glad you mentioned Testament. They don't get nearly enough mentions. Saw them with Megadeth at 15 in Fresno CA.

They also toured together. There is an interview with Chuck D of Public Enemy where he comments that tour. He states that they had to really push their act up to match Anthrax. During the tour one of their roadies learned to be their lights operator and they also added some show elements to the mere rapping. The collaboration was revolutionary at the time indeed.

Absolutely! It was pretty revolutionary at the time. There was a big chasm between rap and metal/black and white. I was a fan of both but there was a lot of contempt by the fans of one for the other genre. Anthrax and Public Enemy took that and just smushed it all together and it was LOVED by fans because of the talent and respect they all had for one another. Nu metal that fused rap and metal became popular later on but I don't think Public Enemy and Anthrax get enough credit for what they started at a time when no one was thinking this way.

Chuck D from Public Enemy raps the first and second verses and Scott Ian of Anthrax raps the third and fourth verses. This was originally a pure rap song by PE. This was a one off collaboration.

For us metal heads, before Anthrax, Rap was the enemy, stealing our thunder. After they got together with and brought Public Enemy into our camp. They showed us that we had more in common than we thought and that it was not only cool to like rap, but important to admit it because it brought all the people closer together. I listen to rap because of Public Enemy and Anthrax. This is one of the most important Thrash Metal songs in history because it bridges the gap.

You definitely need to watch the official music video. Not only is there a mutual respect for each other, but the members of BOTH groups (Public Enemy AND Anthrax) are good friends, but BOTH groups suggested this collaboration. And you can tell from the music video that BOTH groups are having fun. They are simply enjoying their love of music and performing in front of their fans. And I'd also like to point out that the long-haired dude at the turntable is Joey Belladonna (who was at this point still the vocalist for Anthrax). Even though he's not singing in this song, he's still having fun and totally into the music.

This is a Public Enemy song. Anthrax and PE were friends and Anthrax asked to do a cover of Bring the Noise because they wanted to do something with PE. Scott Ian from Anthrax did the 3rd and 4th verse. Again this was a PE cover not an original but it’s classic. It was also important because it brought two completely different genres together at a time when it was taboo to do that.

For me, the rap-metal combination has been the best music fusion ever. These to music styles couldn't be any further apart from each other and yet fit perfectly together. It was huge in the 90s and Anthrax together with Public Enemy were one of the first who did it a bit more serious (Aerosmith and Run DMC was more like a fun party song). One of my favorites is the Judgement Night soundtrack, especially "Another Body Murdered" from Faith No More and Boo-Yaa T.R.I.B.E.. Brilliant!

The Onyx and Biohazard collab was great, too. I remember seeing the video for Slam on Yo! MTV Raps and was like, "Is that Biohazard in the video?" Not long after, Headbanger's Ball started playing the video for Onyx and Biohazard's hardcore version of Slam, so when they got together for the Judgement Night soundtrack, it was just a natural thing. Onyx and Biohazard definitely complimented each other.

I remember seeing Public Enemy and Antrax at the Henrry J Kaiser Theater in Oakland CA on Oct 19th 1991. It was the night of the Oakland Hills fire, we were down at Lake Merritt before the show drinking beer and watching the hills burn as the helicopters came down to the lake to get water to fight it. Check out the PE original off it takes a nation of millions to hold us back. He shouted out anthrax as an original lyric. Then anthrax covered it with a metal backing track and got pe to do their raps to it with Scott Ian of anthrax doing a verse. This song was huge back in the day and paved the way for numetal. Run dmc and Aerosmith was rock rap, this was metal and rap. I will also cosign with others about that judgement night soundtrack...just epic the pairings and the tunes.

If you guys like this one, you'll love Run DMC's Raising Hell. It's the title track off their 3rd album. Back when rappers were into a lot more hard rock and metal beats. In fact the lead guitarist from Metal Church did work for most of the NY area rap groups at the time.

This is a Public Enemy song from 1986 covered by Anthrax with Public Enemy in 1991. Chuck D raps the opening two verses. Guitarist Scott Ian does the third. Scott and drummer Charlie Bennante sing the 4th. Chuck D wrote all the words including "wax is for Anthrax" because he was told Anthrax wore Public Enemy shirts on stage. This was the year before Rage Against the Machine hit with this combo of sound. Anthrax also recorded a rap song in 1987, also on the EP was a cover of Sabbath Bloody Sabbath.

My friends’ hardcore band LineDrive opened for PE here in Winston-Salem. They were a band my band Daub played shows with so it’s only two bands away as you head to Kevin Bacon. Which puts Anthrax and everyone else three or four bands away…

This was originally a Public Enemy song that Anthrax, specifically Scott Ian, wanted to cover. The song had been released a few years earlier without the heavy guitars and drums. Scott had been into rap for years and was a huge Run DMC fan. They did a cool rap tune themselves in 85 (maybe 86) called I am the Man.

The original public enemy version didn't have the guitars, but did shout out anthrax in the third verse. It's funny if you listen to the solo PE version after hearing this, it definitely sounds like somethings missing.

Great concert. Anthrax and Public enemy toured together. 2 completely different music genres and two completely different crowds. We all came together and enjoyed it so much. Music brought us together.

Yeaaahhhhhh booooooy ! I remember when this came out. Went and bought the tape immediately. Scott Ian was a big PE fan. If I remember correctly he asked Chuck D about a collab. Chuck said “Were abrasive and theyre abrasive, why not.” Something like that anyway. Im sure the interviews are on YT

Definitely have to watch the official video! It was Scott 's idea and he talked Chuck D into it. PE were the heaviest rap group and Anthrax is Bad as Fuck= Bring the Noise.

Back in the day, Scott Ian of Anthrax liked Public Enemy and wore their t-shirts in concert, Chuck D heard this, thought it was cool, and started wearing Anthrax t-shirts in concert. Ian reached out with the idea to do Bring Tha Noise, sent a demo, and they worked it out. The video is really bad ass too. You can also find some videos of Chuck D joining Anthrax on stage and doing this song with them.

I was a metalhead kid from the time I was 8 until well after the Grunge wave hit the shores of Musicville. I heard a little bit of rap, but it never spoke to me (I was a white kid from a small town). Back then, if you wanted "rap rock", you probably listened to Epic by Faith No More or you appreciated the guitars on Beastie Boys albums. Even when Run DMC did Walk This Way, it was a glorified Aerosmith sample. I remember when this hit and I was an Anthrax fan. I didnt think I would like that song, but I fell in love with it instantly (still know it by heart...only flubbed 2 lines while watching here after DECADES). The first rap album I ever bought was Public Enemy's "Apocalypse 91...The Enemy Strikes Black" which has this song on it (even though I had the track on an Anthrax album). It wasnt long before I was buying NWA's "Straight Outtta Compton" and Ice T's OG. Likewise, you started seeing other metal/rap collaborations and a lot more bands that incorporated the "rap rock" ethos. This song was HUGE in musics evolution.

That song was from the soundtrack for Judgement Night. All of the songs were rock/rap collabs that were made specifically for that movie. There are several good ones.

Anthrax & Faith No More were the first 2 bands that I remember 1st hearing Metal/Rap in 88/89. 🤘😁🤘 Then in the 90s came Rage Against the Machine, Korn, Limp Bizkit etc. that became Nu Metal. From this we got Linkin Park, Slipknot, etc. Pretty cool huh ? 🤘❤🇨🇦

This was actually Public Enemy featuring Anthrax. The original track was on Public Enemy’s second album, “It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Is Back”. They recut it with Anthrax for their fourth album, Apocalypse 91…The Enemy Strikes Black. There were a few rock/rap collars in the late 80’s. In the early 90’s rap artist began collaborating with metal bands.

First rock/rap mash-up was WALK THIS WAY (RUN DMC and AEROSMITH) and this was the second. I saw them on tour together back then (in Seattle) and to this day it's still the hypest show I've ever been to. The audience was racially mixed and the vibe was beautiful. I actually ran into Scott Ian (the white guy rapping the last two verses for Anthrax) and Flavor Flav at the goddamned mall before the show and got my t-shirt autographed and shit. One of my favorite days ever.

Scott Ian of Anthrax was a HUGE fan of Hip Hop, Public Enemy in particular. Chuck D saw a picture of Scott wearing a Public Enemy shirt onstage and thought it was so cool, he name dropped them on the original version of this track (Wax is for Anthrax). The guys in Anthrax were floored by the compliment, and reached out to see if they could do a collab. Chuck D and PE initially said no, thinking it wouldn't work. After begging for a couple of years, Scott went in the studio and laid down the rhythm guitar and drum track. Once Chuck heard that, he knew that they were about to make history.

I seen this live in 91.my first concert... at p.n.e agridome in Vancouver , apocalypse 91 tour public enemy Anthrax primus and young black teenager's.i went for public enemy.met Scott from Anthrax and terminator x stood beside me watching one of the acts but I was to nervous to say hi. I was very young and was pretty small and remember looking at how tall terminator x was next to me ,he looked like a giant.great memories.only bad part was no flavor Flav ,he couldn't cross the border but I got to watch chuck d live and loved it

So obviously by now you know this song was originaly a Public Enemy song , and Anthrax did this version with Public Enemy and then they went on Tour together , you should check out the song "i'm the man" by Anthrax it is thier version of Rap!
