News Link with Photos: www.dps.arkansas.gov/news/asp-arrests-alabama-man-trafficking-over-100-lbs-of-meth-and-fentanyl-worth-4-8-million/ On 8/26/24 at approximately 3:33 p.m., I initiated a traffic stop on a gray Jeep Compass for following too closely and improper lane usage near the 78 eastbound mile marker of I-40. As I approached the vehicle, I noticed a large duffle bag in the trunk area and an empty bag similar to that in the back seat. I approached the driver and told him who I was and the reason for the stop. I asked for his driver’s license, and when he handed it to me, I noticed his hands were shaking. I asked him if the car was a rental, and he told me it was. I asked for the rental agreement. The driver, Anthony Reese, said he had to pull it up on his phone. I asked him where he was headed, and he told me back home. I asked Mr. Reese if he dropped off a tractor-trailer somewhere, and I got no response. He glanced at me and then proceeded to look at his phone. I asked him again if he had dropped off his truck somewhere, and he told me Oklahoma. I asked if he rented the car in Oklahoma because he said he had dropped off a truck there. Then he stated that he didn’t drive a truck to Oklahoma, but he did leave a truck in Oklahoma. He said he was going for a job in Oklahoma but decided against it and left. Mr. Reese’s address on his license showed Midfield, AL. It seemed odd for someone to drive so far to turn down a job. I had him step out of the vehicle while he continued to look for the rental agreement on his phone. While at my car I asked him how long he stayed in Oklahoma, and he told me not long, just a few days. I asked him what he had in the bag because it was a large bag stuffed full for a few-day trip to Oklahoma. I ran his vehicle through a License Plate Reader, and it showed his vehicle traveled through New Mexico westbound and back eastbound in New Mexico three days later. I verified that he had the vehicle since August 20, 2024. Mr. Reese did have the vehicle when it went through New Mexico on August 22, 2024, and came back eastbound through New Mexico on August 25, 2024. I asked him if he had just gone to Oklahoma, and he replied “Yes sir.” I asked him if he had gone to New Mexico; I noticed his eyes opened up wide, and his mouth dropped as if he was surprised. He replied he liked to gamble. It seemed odd that he said he went to New Mexico to gamble because Oklahoma has various casinos. I asked him what was in the bag in the trunk, and he told me just some clothes. Due to his story changing multiple times and not making much sense with his trip, I suspected that there were illegal drugs inside the vehicle. I noticed his demeanor changed and his voice pitch changed when I began to talk about the bag in the back. I asked him if there was anything illegal inside the vehicle. He told me no. I asked if there was any marijuana, and he looked directly at me and shook his head no. I asked if there was meth, and he looked directly at the trunk area, began to giggle, and told me “Nah man.” I asked for consent to search the vehicle, and he told me no. I called for Trooper Tanner Hess to assist with his canine. Trooper Hess’ canine alerted to the odor of narcotics coming from the vehicle, and we searched the vehicle. In the trunk, there was a large duffle bag and a large blue suitcase. Inside both were bundles of suspected methamphetamine. There were 88 total bundles between the two (Approx. 100.9 lbs.) (Street value of $4,535,900). In the passenger side floorboard, there was a black backpack; inside it were two bundles of suspected fentanyl pills (Approx. 2 lbs.) (Street value $362,800). In the back seat on the floorboard was a zip lock baggie containing suspected marijuana (Approx. 18g) (Street value of $30). For further information regarding the case refer to DTF case file 24-175P. Mr. Reese was placed under arrest and transported to Pope County Detention Center. The evidence was given to the 5th Judicial Drug Task Force. Mr. Reese’s Charges: 5-64-440(c): TRAFFICKING CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE 5-64-440(c)(2): TRAFFICKING IN FENTANYL 5-64-443(a)(2): POSSESS DRUG PARAPHERNALIA METH COCAINE 5-64-419: POSSESS CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE SCHED VI 4 OZ

For those who want to understand the mentality... They don't give a bunch of dope to addicts or known criminals. These people don't really be in the dope game. They get people bad off financially or gambling addicts, put money in their face, & convince them they won't get caught. Many times not telling them whats in the bags but these folks not fools either. Or they'll loan them money then later say drive here instead of paying back & if you don't do it, it will be a problem. Still a dumb move but alot of people say what they wouldn't do in situations they've never been in. But at the end of the day, these people are disposable to drug organizations & arresting them doesn't stop anything. And law enforcement just stops at the little fish & have a photo op. Those drugs will still magically appear back on the streets🙄

Good cops develop discernment about people and situation. When the story does add up and the large bag in the back are two red flags. I used to drug testing for a company. When I approached a person and told them it was time for their drug test I looked at their pupils of their eyes. I knew if they would test positive or negative.

I give Trooper Meeks an 8/10. -1 for having the man in the front seat with no cuffs even after he knew his criminal history and his suspicion and another -1 for not catching the fact the main retained - and was using his cell phone after locked up in the backseat, informing his woman, "you know what to do." Since we don't know all his charges, can I assume he also caught an obstruction charge for that after review of the footage?

Supreme Court has ruled an officer cannot hold you longer than it takes to write a ticket to wait for a K9. Once the officer said he’s not writing a ticket if the man knew his rights he would’ve been free to go after the license check. The trooper violated his rights. I’m on police side on most lawful situations but citizens must know their constitutional rights.

Exactly! I had this EXACT same thing happen to me in texas I got pulled over in a small town on the highway because i had out of state plates they asked me a billion questions and held me for over an hour on the side of the road in the hot sun! on a 110 degree day waiting for a K9 to come while they sat in the AC. he made excuses "your plate doesnt come back to anything" i had all the paperwork to the car and the title with me i even logged into the dmv website to show him and he didnt want to see the info he was wasting time. They asked me numerous times why would i travel etc and how long does it take to get there etc dumb questions like that. they really thought they had one they were so mad when the dog never alerted to anything because there was nothing there to begin with! He first claimed I was "following too close" when the truck in front of me was LITERALLY a mile ahead and could have come to a complete stop and back up to 70mph again before i even collided with them then and when i called him out on that he switched to "You didnt use your turn signal" when i did. Meanwhile he drove over the median from the service road accross 3 lanes of highway cutting off a semi to pulll me over I was originally pulling off the highway into a gas station and he was like "Why would you do that?" he even leaned his head into my car to see how much gas i had like i'm lying to him? i had a half tank and he starts acting like its a lot but its texas in the middle of no where and i didnt want to chance it. anyways I didnt know these 2 officers violated my rights i'm glad it happened because 1, it made me realize i need to learn more about my rights and educate myself so that wont happen again and 2. I went and got my CCW and noticed officers have been a lot more friendly with me since then. the 2 that i met in that small town i really thought were going to plant something in my car thats why i wouldnt let them in it something was off about them

18:26 listen to this “you’re free to go” 10 seconds after saying it a first time if the k9 doesn’t alert. Almost like he just gave him his chance
@anthonylale114226 күн бұрын
@collinhughes6885 I heard that too, in the video. It was almost as if he asked the officer, am I free to go, or am I being detained, he might (small chance) have let him go. I think the guy would win in court, but by not leaving or asking if he is being detained, he waited voluntarily. Interesting to say the least.

He made the mistake to not invoke his right to remain silent. Once you get stopped and lie to the officer he has the right to extend the traffic stop. As a late Supreme Court justice said only an idiot would talk to police without a lawyer. He dug his own hole by having a conversation with the officer.
