Expensive but well worth it if you are willing to drop the coin. The owner is Dana Gleason. He has been making packs or in the pack business for over 30 years. He started modifying backpacks and then created his own business (Dana Design). He sold that business then eventually made Mystery Ranch. He had collaborations with Camelbak, hence thats where Camelbak got the 3-way zip and looks very similar to the 3-day assault. Is it heavy, yes it is but lighter than if it were made from 1000D Cordura. Thats why company's like Mayflower LLC are using 500D. Lighter and just as tough with a tighter weave that will help with water repellency. But going back to weight, yes sure it may be heavier than some other packs around the same size but this pack its rated to carry above 30lb (if i remember correctly) and because of the design/technology it feels like your carrying at least half the weight. How many significantly inexpensive packs do you know of (or even cheap packs) with the same size/volume loaded with the same weight won't bring you to your knees feeling like your back and shoulders are going to break after 2 miles of hiking lol? Mystery Ranch makes packs for Military, Hunters, Forest Firefighters and outdoors enthusiast. So yes they know their stuff. With a lifetime warranty and top notch customer service you can't go wrong with this company. Companies like this are trend setters not followers. Top 3 pack companies. (I too not familiar with European brands) - Kifaru (100% made in the USA) (these guys get your measurements so it fits like a glove. but if you gain or lose 50lb, well that's a different story) - Mystery Ranch (100% made in the USA) - Eberlestock (US company but made overseas?). Kifaru and Mystery Ranch are top dogs in the business but its a close fight (depending on who you talk to) on who takes top spot. No I do not work for any of these companies. I've owned a lot of packs in my day and wish I ran into these companies a lot sooner. Pfft if you can use these packs on your ruck marches, you'll be laughing all day long! Although you might get jacked up because you have a smile on your face! This is my 2 cents, based on personal experience, experience of actual owners of different walks of life and exhaustive time consuming research. But your milage may vary.

Mystery Ranch is some fantastic stuff, I love there gear. Price point is where I get tore up at. I kinda wish they would do some gear in the common hunting camo's such as Realtree. I know those sleeves would be great for a gun but would love to see something for a back quiver. maybe even develop a back quiver for those of us whom are bow hunters can utilize their gear. Maybe that would be an idea I could approach them with myself. Great Video as always Adam.

"All Mystery Ranch products carry a lifetime warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Repairs or replacements for defects of this nature will be offered free of charge, plus we'll ship it back to you on our dime. Repairs where Mystery Ranch is not at fault are also available for a reasonable fee." - This is an important value consideration which many manufacturer's don't offer.

Best Pack I have ever owned. Well worth the money. I have not seen a review that offers the advice of this pack for carrying a pistol. The top most zipper provides access into the top of the pack and the webbing setup in the center of the pack nicely carries a pistol that is accessible from the top of the pack while fully loaded. I'm 5'11" 175lbs and the pack fully loaded as most as I can load it is 53lbs and carries nicely. I wish I had gotten the small yoke and belt as I have to cinch up fully to be comfortable with only a T-shirt on. Wearing a light jacket or thicker the pack gets more comfortable. Love the 3 Zip!! Love the internal and external sleeves! Can easily carry a loaded 590A1 with a cinch strap and the water bottles still fit in when fully loaded!. Top notch and does not look too out of place in urban settings when not fully loaded. I use several different smaller packs that go in the center compartment for Different uses. Works very nice. Sold all my other larger packs after I got this pack few months ago.

It is a fantastic pack but $ 325 is sort of expensive but you get what you pay for. Last year I replaced 3 packs I got from field line the snaps and the zippers just fell apart during the cold weather. One time my zipper fell apart after the first day I went hiking. Great Video!! God Bless

Mystery Ranch makes good gear but I was issued this bag a few years ago and it does not live up to the hype. This bag would flop open as the zipper would work its way down during movements and fast paced assaults. The top flap becomes a problem when you put gear in it ass well, it becomes a flopping mess. the shoulder straps are a little small for larger people and tend to pinch the user when carrying extra load outs.

I have been eye balling this bag for the longest time... I kept filling out the electronic order forms only to cancel due to the investment. Last night I attempted to purchase the bag yet again, but looking at the shipping in conjunction to the price I was like OMG. So yet again, canceled. Well Just five minutes ago I said do it, no regrets. Obviously I have not received the bag, nor do I have any experience with it. However, I have noticed that my biggest flaw with my previous bug out bags was the lack of organization, and carrying way too much. I think having a 3 day assault bag is a more realistic approach to bugging out (even camping). I feel this bag will minimalize what I can take in turn ensuring that I focus on the essentials that I take with me. So no more large framed rucks, I'm taking a leap of faith here. I feel good about this regardless of the price point now, so let's cross our fingers.

I have the slightly larger version of this bag, the "Komodo Dragon" and it is by far the absolute best pack I have ever owned. The yoke system is so comfy even when loaded out to over 35 pounds. I have comfortably carried over 40 pounds of gear in my bag with discomfort. It comes down to if it fits your needs then spend the money, you will not regret it. If it does not fir your needs then look elsewhere or a different MR bag(they have lots). If you get a MR bag you will NOT be disappointed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ILBE's are USA made, and I just bought mine, brand new for $169 on eBay, also got the matching 3day assault pack brand new for $69, and the hydration system brand new for $25 all off ebay, brand new, made in the USA, from the same seller, and he combined shipping! A much better deal, period!!! Sorry, had to point that out!!!
@coniferous_origins

So I have extensive experience with the ILBE and the assault pack. Let me tell you, anything over like 15 pounds in the assault pack, and you hate your life. Toss a radio in there (20 pounds) a few batteries (4 pounds each), a lightweight goretex jacket, an MRE, and a few other small things here and there, and your shoulders will hate you so much. Then there's the ILBE. The creaky, heavy external frame, and poorly padded hip belt are already a poor combination. Then you add the fact that the bottom is not reinforced at all, and the pack sits out too far instead of up and down like the older style MARPAT ILBE. It's pretty cool you can clip the assault pack to the top, but all in all, I'd rather deal with the "Hey Marine, why do you have a different pack than everybody else" than my back and knees becoming more messed up than they already are. If the pack works for you, that's awesome. But it's a one size fits all, poorly designed pack that could've been made so much better. There's a reason my plate carrier and pack are personal gear instead of issued gear, hahaha

Hey, I'd love to know what they call this Laptop insert that was shown in the video - but never talked about in detail (I have been looking at the MR website and I haven't found it yet -.- ps: I'd love to have one of these packs - but the price is quite high...on the other hand I really do love the features (I and I don't know many companies that make comparable items (design wise - there's lot of companies out there that use similar materials, but their bags don't have a nice frame and the designs often suck - as do things like the stitching, the zippers etc.), as I love clamshell backpacks (I dislike toploaders because you seem to always want the item that's at the bottom of the damned pack and need to throw everything out to get it -.-)...) - thing is that I live in Germany and I would have to probably order directly from MR and pay for shipping and customs as well :(

JohnReviewer112 True, Karrimor packs are awesome. But still, I used this 3DAP on one deployment and it held up great. When I came back, all I had to do was wash it off and it was good as new. My Karrimor pack showed some more signs of wear. Some stitching had come loose where the shoulder straps connect to the pack on the bottom and the camo was wearing thin on the sides. Not that it wasn't still perfectly useable, the MR just outclasses it in durability in my opinion. But that's a given, seeing as it's four times more expensive. Both great brands if you ask me.

Yea I was going to say something similar to this also. If you haven't checked out Eberlestock you should they have a wide variety of packs with options similar to this one and are also made in the US. They have great packs and awesome customer service.

98Platinum I have Eberlestock also and unfortunately they aren't made in USA but Vietnam, says so on the interior tag. At least their modern stuff like my Halftrack and Just One are. On the other hand their designs are nice and I like my Halftrack a lot, but the MR or Camelbak Trizip is a little more comfortable to wear.

@98Platinum 10 жыл бұрын
rjhisle1973 Thank you. It seems that you indeed are correct about them not being made in the US, but in Vietnam. The pack I own is a warhammer, to me it is very comfortable to wear. Also it has a wide variety of options for how it can be set up to what ever you desire. I myself don't have any experience with other manufacturers. When I was looking for a pack I went for something that fit my needs and what I wanted it to do. Eberlestock seem to fit that bill and I have been happy with my choice thus far. Thank you again for correcting my previous statement.

If you buy a great piece of gear and you like it and use it alot,you'll forget what it cost within a few months. I think this is a better value then eberlestock packs at the same price point. A cheaper option is the Camelbak Trizip at around 220-250.

Not only that, great point by the way, but it def looks like it's great quality and durable, and DEF outlast come china made pile of crap that'll fail on you.. esp if your out in the woods lost.. That 320$ could save your life so you can keep your pack together vs a 150$ china pile that would most likely fall apart.

I have the Camelbak version of this and it is awesome. The CB version is designed to hold about 40 lbs and it truly is the most comfortable backpack I have ever used, even more comfortable than my Eberlestock Halftrack. The Futura system allows you to adjust the backpack to your back size. The Camelbak version is "Assembled in the United States of foreign and domestic parts." So if can't afford the MR version get the CB version. Plus remember there is always Ebay if you want to get one on the cheap, that's where I got mine.

I took this pack on a deployment to Afghanistan and use it as a day-bag for hiking. Rugged and durable--it took some serious abuse. Carried extra weight fairly well. Narrow design allows for good freedom of movement. Good for organizing gear. External straps come in handy. It is a bag I have confidence in and it worked in a harsh environment. As others have said, it is a heavy bag for its size and capacity. Not really a backpacking bag--I like more space for a multiday trip with a touch of comfort--and not a small "ultralight" bag. It's all in the name: 3-day Assault.

I am going to say something here that may not sit well with many folks. The Mystery Ranch 3 Day Assault Pack is fairly priced. When you look at other manufactures of high end military style packs this one is priced right in there with the rest. My go to pack for backpacking is the Granite Gear Blaze AC 60. One of the best packs I have ever carried and I have more than 100 days on the trail with it. Going in I know the limitations of the bag and I take care not to put into a situation that is going to tear the bag. With assault packs and the guys who really need them care is not an option. Durability and function are and that is why the have to be bombproof. The Granite Gear Blaze AC 60 is priced at $239.00 and the Granite Gear Special Missions Patrol (military pack) can be north of $600! The Blaze AC 60 weighs 2lbs 14 oz and the Special Mission Patrol weighs in at 5lbs 8 oz. The difference is that you would never carry a Blaze AC 60 on a mission. For the weekend warrior who keeps their bug out bag in the basement or the truck of their car a Hazard 4 or 5.11 is more than enough bag. For the guys deploying all over the world buying a bag that may save their life is worth the extra bucks.

Well you are correct, Adam. I certainly am turned off by the price. A BOB or GHB is usually setup and preplaced and LEFT for a long time unless one does a bug out or get home test for themselves or gone through to verify contents. ONLY IF you use the bag often MAYBE the price is anywhere near worth it.

Better or worse I think that is of personal preference and what your mission is. However the Futura system has a slim profile the fits on the user's back, i.e. it doesn't bulge from the sides like the old ALICE pack does. I think it's awesome and I would recommend trying it out. The only Con to the system is really the price, it's a proprietary system from Mystery Ranch.

Personally, I think the Mystery Ranch SATL at 3500 to 3650 c.i. is a better choice for a dedicated Bug Out bag. If you're just out for a day hike, a small three day assault bag will do just fine. But bugging out means you're going for the long haul. The only time I would choose a smaller bag would be if I really thought I'd need to blend in, and a larger bag would look suspicious. But if you're planning on heading into the wilderness, that's not going to be an issue - you'll already look suspicious by making a new home in the wilderness. The thing about bugging out is that we're talking about a SHIT scenario. In such a situation you'll probably lose your job and have to live off the land. In that case, because it's long term, even if it's spring time you need to take your winter gear with you, because the government may not settle down by the time you return. And then you have to ask yourself, what will I be returning to? If mass amounts of people lose their jobs, believe me, the banks will be stealing everyone's property. So if you're going to leave, and you don't have work, don't plan on coming back to your old home. The wilderness is now your home, and the future is a mystery. That being the case, one of Mystery Ranch's larger bags, like the Terraplane (5004 c.i.), the T-100 (6100 c.i.), the Marshall (6400 c.i.), or the 6500 (6500 c.i.) . . . will be even better. But for now I have the SATL because it fits in the back of my truck without taking up too much realty. It's just large enough to carry all my gear; but I would need to grab a duffle bag for extra food.

Something to note Adam, as an owner of that pack: If you carry any large amount of weight on the outside of it for 3 days of hiking...... 8-12 hours a day, as I have done, you will be very uncomfortable. Remember one of the best rules of packing a pack: Carry heavy items close to your back, not away from it. I have found a rain fly that fits the pack but I would challenge you to find a solution if you carry a bunch of items on the outside..... Best wishes, Mike

It's expensive. And E2E does a lot of gear reviews. And some of that gear is expensive. These topics have been addressed in previous videos and podcasts. Mystery Ranch makes a great pack. Is it for everyone? No. I have the Big Horn. Got it on sale. If your patient and vigilant Mystery Ranch packs can be found on various forums at far below the price mentioned. Of course that applies to any piece of gear. Why is it expensive? Durable quality materials, warranty, customer service, and features only found on Mystery Ranch packs. If this gear review is upsetting there are countless gear reviews of lower priced gear all over youtube.

He did open the video with something about the price point probably won't appeal to a lot of his audience! He was expecting it!!! Let's face it, this day and age with a piss poor economy, not many people have 3 bills pkus to spend on a BAG of all things!!! Especially not when you can get great military surplus stuff new and use dirt cheap with more capacity! This thing is going to appeal to only those of us who still have disposable income to waste;) I like the bag and would love to try one out. But not at that price. Maybe if I see one used on eBay at like half or less the price of it new;) Cool bag Adam, but out of most of our budgets I'm afraid for such an item:(

blackhatch46. i have a TAD EDC bag. great quality but ur right its not worth what the charge. Mystery Ranch and Kifaru r worth it. if u have never tried one dont make comments that they r not worth it. Tactical tailor has good product but can u haul an 180lbs of d-bone meet out or a 100lbs of tactical gear. comfortably. or as comfortable as that kind of wait can be. lol. prob not. their packs r made for specific tasks...

D Travs After the third attempt at reading your message, I finally understood the paragraph. Yes I have tried the other brands. There is no fucking way they are worth four times a brand like TT, Specops, or ATS. All are US made and impeccable quality. Sure a Kifaru may be a bit more comfortable but it is not worth it. I carry about 40lbs everyday in my TT pack and it's fine.

D Travs I highly doubt you can carry 180lbs any useful distance. In my 14 years in the Marines the most I've carried is probably 80. That's all gear, not just the pack. 40 pounds on your back for 6-8 hours is a hell of a lot more weight than you think it is. Its funny too, mystery ranch makes some of our issued gear and it rips just like anything else. I know you feel good to join the bandwagon like you are special, but you aren't.

sniperforce34 Those things are huge. I've carried a couple their weight kills it for me but they are nice. I'm thinking about getting a Dragon Egg. It's a little pricey but I really like the features but it's not even close to this expensive. It's like $150 or so but it will shave some weight off my current bag and give me better compartmentalization.

+Adam Bodford if you ain't training, you ain't gaining! any pack is gonna be heavy when you put ur gear, clothes food, water in it, it's a given! i hate a heavy pack as well, but the key to that situation is, you overcome, & adapt! only thing i wish it did have is compartment capabilities. . so thats where molle pouches come to the rescue... that pack is battle proven, so im kewl with it... some others ain't, cause they dont like or can't handle the weight of it all.. but to each individual, I say go with what you like and feel comfortable with..

Can't tell if bags like this cost so much because "american labor cost so much" even though many companies like this (not saying these guys are like this, because I don't know) make most of their stuff in cites near the southern boarder where there is much more leeway with manufacturing wages. Or because some companies like this sell to the govt and have to be Berry Amendment compliant and in doing so know they can spike their prices because the govt will pay out for it.

I am not saying that these bags a re bad quiet the contrary but they can raise product prices because "made in america" got a branding power, its just like when companies advertise that something was developed by a former navy seal, or navy seals use it every day people with just buy it like hot cakes paying any amount of money for the product.

Sorry, there is no freaking way a pack that small with no real frame is worth that much money. Are the zippers plated in gold? I don't think so . With BS like this you are paying for the name as much as you are paying for made in America and materials. There are plenty packs for way less that are just as quality and long lasting. Shit, I still have a Jansport from years ago that looks like I just bought it. And that thing rides great and has been around the world. Twice! With a ton of serious outdoor use. Even if you are rich it's a waste of money.

Lol, well we have a funny issue here. We have people who want to pay very low prices, but that is the cost for stuff that's made overseas with very low quality. So everyone is like "Buy American", but with that also comes a higher price tag, higher quality, and supporting a local business. It seems like the same people who scream "don't shop at Walmart!" Also complain about the price of American made goods being too high. You can't have it both ways. Also if you look at historical costs, even today's American made stuff is cheaper, a lot cheaper, than it was 100 years ago, relatively speaking. Someone would pay for a horse about the same the would pay for a small car today (taking in to account inflation). But if you look at things like knives and other gear, people would spend a months worth of salary on a knife a 100 years ago, that is nowhere near the quality of blades we make today at 10% of the price. It's interesting to watch people responses. I guarantee when it comes time to give this bag away, some of the people saying that it's a "fail" will be lining up for a chance to win this.
