Likely a maintenance issue as many have pointed out. The plane has a good safety record, the airline’s safety record isn’t too bad but isn’t perfect. They had a crash landing in 2018 that was investigated by the BEA and wound up being caused by pilot error (lack of training and proper supervision of the first officer), no fatalities reported, but substantial damage to the aircraft was documented. It looks like it was repaired and returned to service instead of written off. Another time a flight attendant working there fell from a plane while on the ground and injured herself due to somehow not noticing that there were no air stairs connected. And that’s about it from what I can see up until this incident. They started off as a small charter airline with two planes and now have a small to medium fleet of almost all Boeing and a few Embraer aircraft, with several 737 MAX planes on order to replace their 737NG’s. I had never heard of them up until this point.
@snowzZzZz13 күн бұрын
We talk about corner cutting and the scrutiny of Boeing so much that we forget to also talk about the same or worse corner cutting that some airlines take with proper maintenance of aircraft. The amount of incidents that have occurred due to improperly replacement of parts or not keeping up on maintenance or doing maintenance improperly, it’s part of the equation, and inherently, when you daily operate something as mechanically complex as an airplane, it’s amazing it’s as safe as it is

More trouble for Boeing. I also heard yesterday that the black boxes weren't functioning in the Boeing that crashed in South Korea. Seems they failed when the electricity went off. Why didn't they have a battery backup? Now we'll likely never know why the pilots landed at such a high speed with the landing gear up.
@LEVELGAZANOW13 күн бұрын
To be honest, it’s BS. There has to be extensive knowledge and pre-planning to disable the boxes. Secondly, to land in a ditching configuration without going crazy from the audible warning alerts also takes some circuit breaker manipulation on the FO’s side. This happens every now and then. Not just Boeings but also Airbuses. Even with hydraulics on, you can't just lift the gear lever in the cockpit to retract the gear. The landing gears have sensors telling the aircraft it is sitting on the ground. So the control lever will be locked. To override this you need to mask the sensors. This is a common maintenance procedures for various things. But somehow someone forgot to put the locks on the landing gears and this is what happens. My guess is the pilots reported a fault with a navigation system, and the ramp engineer tried to test it, but missed putting in a lock.

This has nothing to do with bad Boeing design. This landing gear was locked down, or it would have collapsed on its previous landing. The nose landing gear locks down through an over-centre mechanism which is impossible to unlock except through either hydraulic pressure (via the landing gear control handle) or by the emergency release mechanism which unlocks the over-centre mechanism using a cam and mechanical force. This accident was caused by someone in the cockpit ‘playing’.

Looks like airline maintenance issues possibly. They are good aircraft generally. It's a shame when such a workhorse fails. 737's been so good to its passengers.

It collapsed slowly according to the CCTV, maybe a hydraulic fault

16 year old airplane. The landing gear has been replaced a bunch of times already. Landing gear for the 737 is made by Safran. The same conpany that also makes the landing gears of Airbus, Embrear and Dessault. So definitely NOT a Boeing fault.

Don't you just love the screen to protect maybe the identity of the nose wheel?

A nose gear is optional for every bird in flight!

Quality my ass, at that age it is more like a maintenance issue. It's like my blaming Toyota for a wheel falling off on my 15-year Camry. Stopping spin of this narrative. Yes, the new Max has issues but this just ain’t one of than.
