WoW Classic - An Advanced ROGUE Guide to Parse/DPS in BWL

This is an advanced, in depth, guide on how to parse and increase your dps within Blackwing Lair in World of Warcraft Classic. In this video I go over every single thing you need to consider for each encounter in the raid. It's a bit long, so pour yourself a drink, go to the bathroom, sit back, and get your learning caps on.

Hey man, I've never seen any of your videos until this one, but I would like to share this. I have been chasing this other rogue in my guild for a while, putting up mediocre 75ish parses while he puts up 90+ overall almost every week. We have almost identical gear but whenever I ask him how he manages to perform so well he always says, "trade secrets". After watching this video and then watching the replays from our raids, I realize he is doing a lot of the things you mention here. Now I'm super excited for our next raid so i can try some extra stuff and step up my numbers! I know there are plenty of sources and lists, but the way you present your content is refreshing. ​@@Sarthetv BTW, i have now full 8/8 t2, the proc rate is ~22% and on average gives you 2 DPS (according to my ONE MC run), but according to my quik mafs & the sims i have done, having boots of shadowflame + t1 shoulders & gloves/dagger gloves are better for all specs (by only 2 dps increase for swords compared to 8/8) and would be "BiS". Allthough, i am currently prioritizing 8/8 for sword rogues and shadowflames for the dagger rogues first and once all dagger rogues have their shadowflames, us sword rogues get them. Since its such a tiny DPS increase and dagger rogues would want to use their dagger gloves anyways this way loot doesn't go to waste. Also with 8/8 you can use your full best dmg gear with DPS enchants except swap out your weaker trinket for Blazing Emblem and your cloak for Onyxia Scale Cloak with 5(all) or 7(fire) resi enchant. With that gear, fire juju, fire resi totem, motw, UBRS MC buff you will be at 268-270 fire resistance (depending which cloak enchant you took). Using blazing emblem "Increases Fire resistance by 50 and reduces all Fire damage taken by up to 25 for 15 sec" which i use when i am at high stacks at

@@BuklanVuklan Yeah I've had so many arguments with the tanks in my guild. For a fury warrior to get a 99 parse it pretty much relies on the tanks being fury/prot dual wielding, full world buffs and consumabled to the hilt every raid. One of my guilds main tanks is insistent on playing deep prot like it's still fucking 2004 and for some reason the guild let him tank every main boss like Vael, probably because the healers are too lazy to get used to healing a furyprot dual wielder, so at this point it's either find a new guild or settle for blue parses for me. But in a hardcore guild, always striving for world buffs then fury warriors do beat rogues and get sick parses. At least this is true on horde side, Alliance probably have it a lot easier with Salv.

I just got my second 60 done today, rogue, and doing some research and this was super helpful! One note about magic resistance potion is that even if you don't have a pally aura or shaman in your group, everyone should have gift of the wild and because of that, these two buffs do not stack and GotW will just take priority.

Consider using GSPP and saving evastion for Rogue call on Nefarian. We usually eat shit too, but if you keep your ony cloak on, healers can usually heal you through one or two shadow flames or cleaves. Great guide.

Regarding rogue class call - to live try popping Evasion to dodge Nef's cleave, and drink GSPP prior the fight. Greater shadow protection potion absorbs AoE on Nef's land when the adds are done, and leftovers of this shield may save you from Shadow Breath during class call And thank you for so much useful info, I find this guide highly reusable for us players for step-by-step improvement, certainly worth being bookmarked! :)

love this guide. I will say I can't follow the opener recommendations for Vael because our tanks do not pull enough threat to use my vanish that early. I have to wait right before the offtank swap. I also have to skip GCDs because I can catch my tank very very easily.

also using LIP on Vael only works if you are aiming for downing Vael before the first BA runs out on the first tank ? i feel very hard time to see that the 6 seconds of LIP + Vanish will have my agro table under the second tank that is planning to step in if we need to make a 2nd swap ?

Ideally you kill him b4 the 1st tank dies, that's kinda the big thing. But your 2nd tank should be pumping threat too, after those 6 seconds leeway, you won't catch him either way (unless he's a bot). So it's gonna be useful no matter what, to be able to dps instantly as vael becomes target-able

Hi Sarthe, for Ebonroc and Flamegor I would actually suggest using the pet trinkets (and/or Ancient Cornerstone Grimoire). Prepop them before the fight and swap the items out. What's your opinion?

ya you totally can, it's like rag on that respect. The only thing is they will probably die to a shadow flame as he swaps tanks so its up to you. You may also not have time because of how fast you are pulling everything else and want the dps trinkets on while you kill trash

Im kind of a situation if i should swap out my Bloodfang boots for Nightslayer boots for the 10 extra energy set bonus ? Losing the 10 extra energy isn't actually going to nerf your dps at all. It just can change your opener, I used to backstab twice b4 SnD, now I Backstab into 1pt. SnD. But if it's the boots being your only swap, you can hold onto the 5 pc NS if you want haha. Boots are such a minor upgrade. And gloves and shoulders are only upgrades if they are for 8/8

On Vael I feel somewhat confident saying it's just better (at the very least it's far more consistent) to only Backstab and not go for eviscerates. I'm currently 11th rogue world on Vael and the 10 players above me either do the same as I do or went for Eviscerates and got INSANELY lucky. I guess it's up to the player whether or not you wanna roll the dice

You mentioned running imp BS for non-dagger rogues because of vael. Do you have a talent build for this, would you drop points from imp Sprint and 1 from dodge/gouge?

classic.wowhead.com/talent-calc/rogue/005323105-3203050020050150231 Gouge and Dodge is fully interchangeable, i like imp gouge more even though i PvE 99% You want imp sprint, it turns sprint into a semi DPS cooldown, since if you get movement impaired out of range of any target you lose damage. This can also save the waste of vanish which would otherwise be your only option to remove the impairment.

This is an interesting one, specifically becuase you have to have the time to swap to it, put it on and use it, then swap back. So... it is only really useful if your guild is slow. You wont have time between Vael even if your guild is fast enough

My current guild doesn't kill bosses fast enough for me to parse that high... I wish we did. They are slowly getting better though. I was always at least an orange parse before I transferred servers. Slowly working this new raid team up to being faster. Gotta work on our tank issue right now.

good guide. You do mention dropping stacks at firemaw, but in classic (i take it this is visual from private ?) debuffs don't tend to drop. It's only on occasions that they will drop with 100-120 FR

you can mc yourself with a priest or do what i do, mindcontrol with mc-cap on a 20 alt with engi. fails sometimes, so best to not wait on the last warchief window possible before an important raid.

Hey Sarthe! Had a question for you - I'm currently running full hit gear as a sword rogue. I have all hit pieces minus DFT (T1 gloves, shoulders, and boots of SF) with 5/8 T2 and CTS/Mala. Through the sims I use, I found that pure hit gear gives better dps in bursty fights, so that's why I went the way I did. But I almost feel like the sims don't take into consideration what full T2 does, because the 2 others rogues in my guild are doing extremely well with their sets, but overall they seem very comparable. I guess my question was do you know what the DPS comparisons look like for the two sets? I've got both, but have been rocking ZG enchants on T1 shoulders so I'm debating on slapping an enchant on T2 set if it's worth and primarily using that.

Great Question Ed! It's SS, SnD or SS, SS , SnD. With swords it's easier to get a 5 pt SnD after a 1 point in the opener, and with 5 pc T1 you can do the 2nd one easier. :) Basically you want to keep SnD up at all times, it's even more important as sword spec since they have longer wep swings

Hi! Very useful guide for a little rogue like me who's just tryin' to learn how to max. One thing i'd like to know: what about weapon enchants? I'm daggers and by common sense it is used to put +5dgm on main and +15 agi on off (cuz reasons: crusader doesn't work on daggers as much as better on swords, the dmg boost your backstab crit, +0,5 crit%), but i'm startin to think that's not true, if you use AR+BF during the crusader proc it will still be better dps. I see you use daggers with crusader in the video or am i wrong? Thank you anyway :-)

yo it is better for dagger rogue windfury or trueshot aura ? mostly I had only trueshot aura so i use mainly dense sharpening stone on main hand.

Hey Saammwise! Great name and great question! I would sim it, but honestly that's a rough one. TF (I'm jelly you have it so grats) is an amazing OH till Naxx, but not hving a sword MH means you don't get sword spec talents, and vice versa. So I would run some sims probably

Sarthe another question, im dagger rogue atm but im still missing some crucial items , core aged leather gloves & shadowflame boots for example i also have 6/8 t2 (missing bracers and gloves) at what point do u think its better to use the t2 8/8 set bonus compare to the dagger gear set up ? if i get full t2 set before the items above ?

I'll make a video explaining the exact mechanics of LIP, but you still build THREAT, you can't pull AGGRO. So the boss/mob cant attack you, but you will be above the tank in threat if you dont Vanish you will pull right when it ends

I had 261 fr with totem and I still got stacks. Had to run out of the room a few times before I died. While I did resist a lot, it still wasn’t enough to stay in the room the whole duration. So the 250 fr claim is obviously false. You need significantly more than 250 to stay in the room 100% of the time. That magic number is probably closer to 300.

Hello Sarthe! Great guide and very simple and easy to follow, i however have some questions regarding enchants. I have +5 dmg on perds and +15 agi on CHT, i am in doubt if this is optimal, but ive heard people say it is the min-maxing way. I also bring whipper root tubers to combo with my major health pot, or just use the root tuber if i need to LIP/FAP or Resto pot on chromie. I am by no means an expert, but i am trying my best to learn. Furthermore, does the elemental sharpening stone do more for vael than instant poison? and on which weapon would i put it? i know instant poison procs way more on main hand (ofc) but i am thinking about putting elemental shapening stone on my CHT, would this be beneficial in any way? It would be crazy nice if you had talked about enchants in this video, atleast just for weapons as it is awesome to have one collected video with all information. Very very satisfied i found this channel, you have a very good way of explaining things and come off as a genuinly great guy. Can't wait for more rogue goodies! Thanks!

Hey! I run this settup with +5 MH and Crusader OH, but double crusaders on full BiS gear slightly sims better (it's super slight and it would have to be optimized using CDs at the right time). 15 Agil is extremely close too and for most people is better than crusader because they may not optimize with proc uptimes. You could indeed use a sharpening stone specifically for Vael, but it also depends on how much time you have b4 Vael's pulled, and how close you are to crit cap :)

@@Sarthetv Alright, a bit less for me to worry about then is good in my book :) i havent played WoW before classic really (when i was 10 in real vanilla lol, doesnt count imo) i will probably try out putting elemental shap stone on OH and instant on MH on razorgore and take it into vael, then shift it to instant on both to see what feels better. Very thankful for the response :)
