I felt like I just needed this right now. Don't know why, but it's like my heart felt filled with joy- I dunno if that's quite right, but you get the idea. I'm really looking forward to the deep dive on the album, Metropolis Pt. 2. Glad you'll be with me on my journey! ❤️❤️

1992 heard Pull Me Under on KNAC. Went and bought Images and Words and by the time this song was half way into the instrumental section I had a new favorite band that stands to this day.

Such a great song! of course, all the dudes I lived with (death metal musicians mostly) called it Pull My Finger, but anyway...😁Great efin song!! My oldest son became a huge fan and picked up the guitar because of them. 🤘❤️🤘

Listen to Metropolis Pt 2 in it's entirety start to end with no interruptions. There is even a guide at the beginning to guide you through the experience. The best album of all time by far. I'm lucky enough I got to see the 20th anniversary tour for it. Best concert experience I ever had, and I've been to more than a few. Do yourself a favor and listen to it. There are also great live versions of most of the songs. Theresa is amazing.

It's a tough job being a reactor. Long videos tend to turn off viewers (according to analytics) so I'll be doing it piece by piece except the intro into the first song. I may include playthroughs after the song if available so It's a long process. After my first video, I start a playlist on Apple Music and add to it as I go. Those are the songs I listen to over and over until I finish the album and i can finally sit down and listen to it in it's entirety. Look at my Aryeon playlist as I go through The Source. I'm a handful of songs away from finishing! I also plan on doing Blind Guardian's Nightfall in Middle Earth, song by song. Also, as is common in reaction/breakdown videos, I'll have to pause here and there but you fans have already absorbed the music and the link to watch is always available. I'll see you soon! 🤘❤️🤘

DT has been one of my top favorites since I heard "Pull Me Under" in 1992. I was a lover of prog rock as well as metal, and these guys melded the two. Amazing! When I was selling pro audio gear, I used "Metropolis, Pt. 1" to introduce a fellow salesman jazz guy into metal. He played piano and the solo sections and gtr & keys unison lines just gave him permanent stank face. This song is a particular highlight to an otherwise killer album.

@@TheUfoProject_ Full disclosure: I went to a friend's house one day and while partaking of a certain flowery substance, he gives me this side-eye and says, "You're gonna like this." and I thought, "This is going to suck, all he listens to is Jackal and they fkn suck." LOL He played Pull Me Under and I don't think I listened to any other music for the next year. This album consumed everything. Hey Bill . The Images and Words album is still my favorite from DT. Pull Me Under was my intro to the band , saw it on mtv Headbanger's Ball, and loved that song instantly. This and "Under a Glass Moon" are the other 2 on the record that really stand out to me. This performance is Buenos Aires 2012, Luna Park Stadium (Live at Luna Park DVD). Don't know how many times I've watched this video. James' voice is really good, but it's not what it was back in the day before the vocal chord issues. As for Metropolis Pt 2 album, 1 song was played at this show(The Spirit Carries On). 4 songs from that record were played at the Boston 2014 show (Breaking the Fourth Wall DVD), "Overture 1928", "Strange Deja Vu" ,"Dance of Eternity" and "Finally Free". The entire album was played at New York 2000 (Metropolis 2000: Scenes from New York DVD). Haven't looked to see what of that is available on yt. So, if you want to show off your hats, wear one during your intros, then put the headphones on when your ready to push play. I won't mind.😁 🎩🧢

Thanks for the info and the hat suggestion- very good idea, my brotha! My first was time hearing them was Pull My Finger...er...I mean Pull Me Under, too. 😂Before hearing that song though, I was hanging out with John and Mike in a little club somewhere in New Jersey. John and Mike were dating a couple of girls from the band Meanstreak who were playing that night (Mike is still married to Marlene and they just celebrated an anniversary. Don't know if John is still married to Rena) and my then-girlfriend's band, Bedlam, was opening for them. That's when I realized how sick a guitar player John was when he picked up Rena's guitar and was just 'noodling' around. I was like 👀!!! John was pretty mellow and Mike was just a funny dude, big smiles and friendly. Who knew back then!! I've found some of those songs on YT and I see the whole concert there too. I'll just have to map this out to make it work. I found those drum playthroughs too. So, I'll be doubling up on a few songs which I love doing. Thank you buddy! 🤘

I would love to meet such people 😁Back in the day, the ignorant fools would describe ALL metal by screaming "KILL YOUR MOTHER, KILL YOUR FATHER" and pretending to be very aggressive or what not. They proudly would show their ignorance! That was the perception people had. They would hear stories about Ozzy and the bat, Priest going to court over subliminal messages when their music was played backwards. People!! 🤘❤️🤘

this was the album that changed how i listen to music forever. Scenes From a Memory is GREAT. feel free to break up the recording as needed for YT purposes, but it is definitely a single-sit listen. favorite song from them is, without question, _A Change of Seasons_ . (turns out most of my favorite DT songs were the ones Portnoy wrote .... the only exception i can think of is _Learning to Live_ , which was Myung's)

There's actually two live recordings of the entire Metropolis Pt 2 album. Metropolis 2000 (Scenes from New York) which was recorded during the tour from the album's release and Distant Memories which was a tour to celebrate the album's 20th anniversary in 2019. I personally like first one (Metropolis 2000) better despite it's cheesy 2000 era production quirks because it does a better job to help the audience to understand the story with occasional movie clips to augment the music. It also has the bonus of having Theresa Thomason live with the band to provide her backing vocals that she provided on the studio recording rather than using a backing track like Distant Memories did.
@BemusingBill2 ай бұрын
Thank you for that, my friend! I like the idea of doing Metropolis 2000. I'll just have to stop in between songs and do the whole thing in several videos. I appreciate the info, my friend! 🤘❤️🤘

You should know going into it that Metropolis Pt.2 doesn't have a direct connection with Pt.1 subject wise. The part 1 was added to the title as a joke without any intention to record a sequel. This got fans asking for a sequel and they finally recorded a 20 minute instrumental demo during the recording of Falling Into Infinity. However given the length of the song it wasn't included on the album and it was set aside. With the record label giving them free reign creatively on their next album and Jordan joining the band they decided to expand that 20 minute demo into a full blown concept album which is what turned out to be the Metropolis Pt.II we all know and love.

There was an intention to do a part two. Just not right away, but eventually. Petrucci has said they got the idea from RUSH. Addition: I'm just saying it was that the fans pushed them to finally get around to it, more so than to do something they were never going to do.
@allenjudepaiva2 ай бұрын
@@jeffreyscott4997 just going by what Petrucci himself has stated in the interview below... "JP: It wasn't like... it wasn't really intended to be another section... another part Interviewer: Gotcha. It wasn't like 7 years later we'll do part 2... JP: Exactly" You're right that it was a joke inspired by Rush song titles and he talks about that in this interview as well. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fIaWYWVtm9qNeKc
