For context, after the success of The Slim Shady LP Eminem was a lightning rod for controversy. He was criticized by Conservatives for vulgarity, entertainment media for dissing celebrities, feminists for being misogynist, LGBTQ activists for being homophobic, the rap community for being white, and got sued by his mother. He followed up with the Marshal Mathers LP. There was big anticipation since The Real Slim Shady single was release a month prior. Kill You was the first song on the record and was basically a double middle finger to all his critics.
