You mention Bruce Springsteen: When Jackson had his first album out and was playing live shows, Bruce didn’t have a record deal and was unknown, but he was friends with Jackson, so he (Jackson) would let Bruce come on stage to sing a song or two to get some exposure. Yes, this is Jackson Brownes song, and the name of a whole album. His voice sounds just as perfect as years ago. Its about when we were young, all the people that are on stage too, there were so many dreams about changing the world, and then we, most of us, had to surrender to the system, if we wanted to raise a family, rent needs to be paid, and we forgot or were unable to do what we dreamed of. This song makes me cry, today, because I just retired a few days ago, and was thinking of how much I sacrificed, like the closeness of family and friends so I could pay my bills, and now, they are doing the same, and dont have time, like I now do.... and how terribly sad it all is. Thank you for listening and reacting. Considering it is your first time listening, you are spot on.

Great song. You should listen to the studio version. I have been a huge Jackson Browne fan since I was in college. I totally love all his albums up until Lawyers in Love. Other great songs by Jackson include Doctor My Eyes, Rock Me on the Water, These Days, Ready or Not, Fountain of Sorrow, Before the Deluge, Late for the Sky, For a Dancer, The Fuse, Disco Apocalypse, That Girl Could Sing, Boulevard and many more.

Friends way back in the Laurel Canyon days with Cass Elliott, some of the to be Eagles and many others. Jackson is the real deal. Very authentic. Love him and he's puts on a really good concert himself. Great LP version too.

Yes, go listen to the studio version. There may be a reason for YT reactors play so many live versions. But the artists go into the studio and spend months getting their music to sound exactly the way that they want it to be heard, and there's definitely a reason for that.

Maybe my favorite Jackson Browne song. For those of the hippie generation who started out with good intentions. Not so much a fan of this version. I agree the Crosby Nash harmonies get in the way a bit. I prefer the studio. Maybe give it a lesson. I also like his Everyman and These Days and I DThought I Was a Chile, which was covered beautifully by Bonnie Raitt. All from For Everyman album.

"Smokey" is spot on. And your analysis about the song's meaning is also spot on. Bruce Springsteen inducted Jackson Browne into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. They are good friends. He has also been good friends and co-wrote with the Eagles. The lyrics on this song are just so deep, touching, and sad. He is a true poet. He was the sound track of my high school years. Jackson Browne wrote his first incredibly deep song at the age of 16. He has been writing songs every since. He is still going strong at 73 years old! I like your energy and wisdom so I subcribed. :)

If I'm not mistaken, Jackson + CSN have been friends since the Laurel Canyon days pre-Woodstock. It IS a Jackson Browne song. Check out the BBC performance with just his voice and a piano. MUCH better version than this. On a side note, Browne was roommates with Gregg Allman in Los Angeles, and Gregg recorded his "Laid Back" album with two of Browne's songs: "These Days" and "All My Friends." I would like to invite you to be the first to react to Gregg's solo stuff, especially "Turn On Your Lovelight" on his Gregg Allman Tour Live at Carnegie Hall.

The live versions (at least 80% of the time) are NOT a representative version of the song that MILLIONS heard during the 1970's (if that's the age you are looking back at). ITS JUST NOT. And listening to that live version is a WASTE. Now there are some bands in the 70's or even all time that had live version that easily matched or exceeded the studio/radio version. But if you're purpose is an attempt to hear and feel what we HEARD and FELT when the song was released? On the radio? And on LP? Listening to live versions (especially those with "addtional" artists such as CSN) is simply ridiculous. I *love* your channel and you reactions. But I do *not* love the few times (such as this) you react to what very very few heard (in live concerts) compared to those who listened and loved on radio/LP.

I love this LIVE version for everything it offers. It represents so much MORE than it did 50 years ago. It's a PITY some people are unable to appreciate such new depth of meaning.
