To think that this album was written , recorded and completed and produced by Jimmy Page in 19 days is just amazing

The songs were written and rehearsed before those 19 days,at least that's what I read when researching this topic.

It was an April morning when they told us we should go As I turn to you, you smiled at me How could we say no? Oh, the fun to have To live the dreams we always had Oh, the songs to sing When we at last return again Slipping off a glancing kiss To those who claim they know Below the streets that steam and hiss The devil's in his hole Oh, to sail away To sandy lands and other days Oh, to touch the dream Hides inside and never seen, yeah Into the sun, the south, the north At last the birds have flown The shackles of commitment fell In pieces on the ground Oh, to ride the wind To tread the air above the din Oh, to laugh aloud Dancing as we fought the crowds, yeah To seek the man whose pointing hand The giant step unfolds With guidance from the curving path That churns up into stone If one bell should ring In celebration for a king So fast the heart should beat As proud the head with heavy feet, yeah Days went by when you and I Bathed in eternal summer's glow As far away and distant Our mutual child did grow Oh the sweet refrain Soothes the soul and calms the pain Oh Albion remains Sleeping now to rise again Wandering and wandering What place to rest the search? The mighty arms of Atlas Hold the heavens from the earth For the mighty arms of Atlas Hold the heavens from the earth From the earth I know the way, know the way, know the way, know the way I know the way, know the way, know the way, know the way For the mighty arms of Atlas Hold the heavens from the earth

This is an epic!! Love your reaction!! The lyrics mean alot to me. To me It's a message to never give up and succeed in life no matter how bad things get you have a purpose. All that passion with a Greek mythology theme is just magical.

Thanks so much, appreciate the watch! That is such a beautiful takeaway from the song, the greek mythology definitely adds that extra element of magic

Well done in picking up some of the references. Achilles - while having a mythological connection, was also a bit tongue in cheek as Robert and his family had suffered a car crash in Rhodes. Robert was in a wheelchair with a broken leg while recording this and there were even concerns whether he would walk again. Yes, this is a nod to Robert and Jimmy's travels to Morocco and other places ("It was an April morning when they told us we should go. I turned to you, you smiled at me, how could we say no?"). In addition to the Achilles reference, yes, the Atlas Mountains/mythological figure Atlas are there as well as the name Albion, which is a poetic literary term for describing Britain or England. Jimmy had at least 6-8 guitar tracks to use for overdubbing and there were 2 bass lines recorded. Jimmy and the engineer spent overnight perfecting and mixing this track. The group Heart said they used the same galloping bass line for their song Barracuda and I think Bonzo's machine gun drum part may have been an inspiration for Metallica's song One. This is a favorite of all three surviving members. I feel it their most intense song and now you have heard all three "Epics". I sent you a link for the live performance and I hope you continue your Zep journey.

I was another one that saw them at knebworth so glad I went as it was a last minute thing of will we go or not, crazy I know but we were spoilt for gigs back then, knebworth was always a great venue saw so many great bands there. Robert Plant was really into mythology and loved Morocco, once you have been to Marakesh especially in the 1970's you were changed in a good way, been lucky enough to have been to MOrocco a couple of times, traveling with the locals to all different parts it was great experience, such friendly hospitable people, we delivered a goat for feast in the boot of our car - a live animal - it was different for sure, great memories

This is the heroic song that I turn to for courage in the face of adversity...the epic multi-dimensional sonic landscape of desert mountains, and the depth of valleys created with guitars, bass and metronomic drums, while the lyrical vocals flying like an eagle above call to me-Pure greatness!

Music isn’t so much about right or wrong but whether you feel it or not… and this one is hard not to feel. I always envision myself on the back of a dragon flying into some epic battle of yore when listening to this song. I think this name of the song is a bit tongue and cheek since Plant had broken his leg in a car accident in Greece and he was wheelchair bound when this song was recorded.

Jervis a suggestion as you have requested - Could I suggest Jim Hendrix Hey Joe Live @ Monterey. Unbelievably nearly 55 years ago but it's a performance that changed rock for ever. To go from being a relatively unknown guitarist to the coolest (for people of that age) person on the planet in just 4 minutes.

"The mighty arms of Atlas, hold the heavens from the Earth". While there are various themes interwoven in this masterful story, one take on it for me is it tells the story of them touring. I often think "the might arms of Atlas, hold the heavens from the Earth" is a nod to Peter Grant who holds the magic of touring together, insulating the band from the norms and reality of their every day lives at home and constructing another reality. The partying and excess of touring as rock Gods. This is not what the lyrics intend as far as I know, but simply what I read into them. And that is part of the magic of this track.
@eatthisvr6
@eatthisvr6 2 жыл бұрын
i think that bit is a straight nod to the atlas mountains
@H0tchips
@H0tchips 2 жыл бұрын
@@eatthisvr6 No doubt. I see more than one theme in this. Probably just me, but lyrically it fits Robert's take on touring as well as other narratives.

This was the pinnacle of Page's functional use of Heroin. This 19 day masterpiece of an album is not regarded very highly by a lot of fans. To me it's one of their best. I think it might be Page's best guitar work out of all the studio albums. Achilles Last Stand is fucking ridiculous every time I hear it. That song epitomizes the band every bit as much as STH. From the first note who else could it be? Only Zeppelin sounds like that. Presence is a great album unless your deaf or stupid. If you are intelligent and still think Presence is a weak Zeppelin album........You are just too stupid to realize your not intelligent. Not trying to say your stupid if you don't like Presence. I AM saying your stupid if you don't like Presence. Sorry for over explaining that point I just wanted to make sure the stupid people would understand.
