Yup sure is, I remember I was 13 and the kid next door was about the same age as that child. He had tied a skipping rope around his neck and jumped off a picnic table, it was already wrapped around a swingset on the other end. I ran into their yard made sure he was okay told his parents what I witnessed and they just shrugged.

You tell them Saber. How on earth can you just walk away and if these kids said racial comments before to him then clearly it has racial motivation. But even if it's not, these kids still tried to kill this poor little boy. it's horrible

PapaSaber That's my thought, undoubtedly something happened to the kid however I am skeptical of the racial thing. I've honestly never seen whites say "you aren't white enough." I do however see it all the time in the black community. There seems to be a lot of prejudice against light skinned people.

I'm not American, so I'm speaking from a very different perspective, and I don't want to offend anyone, but to me it seems that when in situations like this people start the argument of if it's a race crime or not, you just feed the racism problem. When people point their fingers yelling "white people did this" I believe it can only make things worse. In most other countries, if a couple of kids hang another kid and almost kill him, nobody would be looking at their skin color. Those kids would go to a reformatory or whatever institution for underage criminals there is. I know race is a whole issue in USA so it's not the same, but still... a crime is a crime. Trying to define if its motives are racial seems just like... escalation. Like "if white people attack black people, we'll punish white people accordingly"... then white people claim they're not all the same (obviously) and resent other races because they feel like they look at them as if they're all racist, so some of them start hating other races more, and so on, and so on...

It DOES matter when it comes to the process of law, actually. If they can reasonably try this as a hate crime, potential punishment is different, based on standing hate crime laws.
@Teeleesom5

Or they were just stupid teens that picked on a younger kid and did it in a horrific way that could've killed him. Assumptions every single time someone isn't "lily white" is over the top. Do people realize exactly HOW MANY PEOPLE are of colored or mixed races? Not everything that happens in life is because someone is not white. Sometimes, it's just sheer stupidity - these teens are older and being assholes to a little boy. Jumping right on the race bandwagon automatically is assumption, which so many people are doing nowadays. I can't even tell from the pictures that this kid is mixed race myself, so I would never guess it was racially motivated. I guess that's why the police are taking the time to investigate and not just toss statements and info out there until they get to the bottom of it, which is the way it should be in every situation.

This is just EXTREMELY interesting to witness people attempting to diminish the issue behind this crime, which was RACE! Sure if a crime is committed, it's a crime, &!should be treated as such. However, when it comes to hate crimes, there is a STRONG & VAST historical & continuing record of Black people being targeted. Race is something that is biological & there is no choice over. If people are being targeted for that, it's important to bring it out! That is crime that wouldn't have ever happened otherwise, because race was the key factor. Why should we shy away from that!? Tell the TRUTH! Tell the reason why! As per usual, many whites don't want to address the TRUTH & REALITY of the system of racism-white supremacy. You want it swept under a rug or covered up, in order to make you feel less uncomfortable.

FYI, walk-in freezers have a way to open the door from inside. Just push the thingy forward. I've worked in food service before. They thought of this a long time ago. But maybe she was inebriated or whatever. Not hard for the police to provide the details on this particular freezer model. Then we could look up exactly what kind of open-door-from-the-inside safety feature it has.
@maevetaylorreilly
@maevetaylorreilly 6 жыл бұрын
furyofbongos I'm pretty sure that walk in freezers have to have a inner opening mechanism for safety, don't they? I worked in retail/customer service and we had walk in freezers for dairy products / frozen food etc. And it had a latch to open it from the inside. Also, alcohol lowers your body temperature and would make it more likely that she could have passed out due to hypothermia if she was inebriated.
@furyofbongos
@furyofbongos 6 жыл бұрын
I don't know, but it's hard to imagine in the U.S. there not being a Federal regulation for it. I just remember that thingy mechanism in all of the walk-ins they had at my old workplace. I mean,, as you know, that's how we got out of them every day anyway! It wasn't just a safety mechanism, it's how you got out, period.

Depends. If it was frozen over, which happens, then she couldn't press the button thing to open. Maybe that's why there is a cover up. The button was frozen over, and someone doesn't want to be found at fault (the hotel). I only know because it's happened to me. I got stuck in a freezer at a supermarket. No phone reception. They found me four hours later.

Yes, all walk-in freezers have means to open from the inside that cannot be locked out without physical tampering. Thing is though, you have to be not-passed-out to use them.

my friend's son is 12 and he knows that hanging someone could kill them, he knows of racism and that it's bad, etc. He would definitely know not to put a noose around a young boy's neck and hang him. I don't see why a kid two years older than him or more should get a pass on attempted murder. Who fucking cares if what they did haunts them for the rest of their lives? It should. There's too much of this "but we'll hurt the criminal!! :C" shit going around. They should also get CPS in there to make sure an abusive household isn't causing this kind of behavior. Something is seriously wrong there.

Rosemont police live in Rosemont, actually every city officail in Rosemont live in Rosemont, and those are the ONLY people who live there. It's not a normal town, all those people live in 1 gated community on the far side away from the convention center and hotels. Also, Donald E. There's a certain age where you can forgive mistakes (to a certain degree), but once you reach the teens, perhaps around 13-14 you are sufficiently self-aware and grown up to know right from wrong. In my country teenagers are sent to juvenile detention for something like this, so what boggles the mind is that it's being treated not as a crime, but a potential accident. If an assault, or whatever you would describe this as, is motivated by the victim's race, then it's a hate crime, it's as simple as that.

Saturn666 kids start to learn empathy around ages 5-8. They certainly aren't perfect, but they start realizing there are consequences to their actions, especially for others, around that time. Exactly. A kid in my junior high (14) punched a younger 12 year old in the face and split his cheek open. The punch was random and unprovoked. That kid got expelled and sent to juvy instantly and we never saw him at school again. I don't see how those kids haven't already faced punishment yet.

The kid I know is Cameron, I wont say his last name. He is 16 and he was at a party at the house of this kid. They got a table and they were swinging around on it or something. They were fucking around pretending it was a noose and when they were helping the kid up, they accidentally kicked the table from under him. After this they instantly tried to get him out of the noose. The mother didnt care and out of frustration put the kids in a bad light saying they threw rocks at the kid, when in reality they were all throw shit at eachother, not just one kid. The media then took it upon themselves to make up the story that he pushed him off and walked away like they were in a movie. They spun it like a hate crime and said "after bullying a kid and hammering him with rocks, the kid then trusted them enough to allow them to put him in a noose and hang him" It sucks that I am only one person and I dont have the power of the media to get the truth out there, but this is the truth, nothing but the truth.

The only leniency I would give to teenagers that commit such heinous crimes is the psychological help. They need to be punished for their actions but I'd also argue that if a kid is hanging other kids or committing any particularly cruel violent crime they need help to be rehabilitated, not just punishment alone. You can't be right in the head or have had a perfect life to end up doing shit like that and think you can get away with it.

Those white teenagers didn't JUST bully that little boy, they tried to straight up KILL HIM. When I was 13-14 years old I remember being taught all about slavery, every class was specifically shown images of hate crimes, such as hangings. This is a hate crime and attempted murder. Someone almost lost their child because of these kids and because of the color of his skin, and it's really disgusting to me that someone is trying to call this a mistake or accident. Who knows what other "mistakes" this group of kids will make if they get a pass on this one.

I just don't understand how someone can live in a country all their life, bar maybe their first year, be raised, educated and have family and friends AND work AND pay taxes, then all of a sudden get told they have to leave? And go to a country they have possibly never been to? I couldn't imagine being told that actually my family were illegal and therefore so am I, and I have to leave the only country I've ever known and loved and move to another one. Different language, culture, laws and regulations. Completely FULL of strangers.

A lot of young kids will bully someone, A LOT. Bullying happens every single day. However I have never heard a bullying story where a kid was left hanging on a rope to die. That is not a mistake that you regret from your younger years. That is attempted murder. I understand these kids were young, but as a 14 year old teenager you know what is considered attempted murder and what is considered bullying. I can not understand how the police chief seems to not at least express concern for the child. I honestly can't believe this story. Hate crime, attempted murder, bullying, whatever this is seen as there must be consequences. Otherwise, as long as your seen as a young child you can get away with whatever you want.

You know the unfortunate thing is I have definitely heard of bullying stories like that. In middle school in an anti-bullying seminar the vice principal told the story of a kid she knew who some other kids held a plastic bag over his head and tried to suffocate him for a solid minute. The kid lived but i think he ended up committing suicide before the trial cause he was so afraid of the bullies coming after him again. Kids can be seriously fucked up, I mean its bad enough that harming people for their own amusement is a common occurrence. But teenagers can be particularly cruel cause they are psychologically immune to foresight and the concept of consequences.
@otti2582

I remember in school where they had a man talk about how he was bullied, it had culminated when they had kidnapped him, taken him to a barn, put a noose around his neck and pulled it up high enough that he had to stand on his toes to not suffocate, he then stayed there for hours before being found. These stories aren't that rare, you just have to look for them.

Brother Ares I agree with you in general but without race the story is "a group of teens were bullying an eight year old and that resulted in the boy being hanged by the other boys" with race as a factor the story is "group of teens harassed a bi racial boy because of his race and threw rocks at him this resulted in him being hung by the other boy whilst they mentioned lynchings and white pride" the story's come off as different to me. Basically what I'm saying is context is important.

That first story happened real close to where I live. Rosemont has become something like an outdoor mall plaza with bars, hotels, restaurants, and the self-named convention center, located between a highway and the Des Plaines river, and has its own L-station leading to and from the loop/O'hare, and as such, attracts all sorts of people from within the city who want to get out and have a good time somewhere safe. This tragic event is going to leave a stain on their reputation until they review more evidence and wrap up the case. I should also note that Schiller Woods and the connected Forest Preserve area near here have a seedy reputation; Satanic cults and animal sacrifices and so forth, though I am speaking hearsay at this point. Weird shit happens in there sometimes, beyond your typical homeless shelter or shady drug deal...just saying.

Lijke you said about KJenneka Jenkins... police stated, she was seen on surveillance in the front lobby. That was noted in more than one document in the case files. It has been reported by several news organizations as well. So... where is that footage? it's not in any footage that was released. More over, the camera that would have recorded her entering and exiting the elevator from the main lobby was reported as inoperable. So how can the activist, Andrew Holmes report to the public that he was shown surveillance footage of Kenneka entering the elevator from the main lobby before we see her exit the elevator on the lower level? Then you wonder how people can think there is some sort of cover up going on?

Why would someone care about "not letting a stupid mistake as kids ruin their lives" when they were literally trying to kill someone!? The potential of it being a hate crime makes it all the more disgusting, but weather that's true or not shouldn't matter for something this serious. If I were a young teen and started drowning some kid in a tub and I don't say anything racist and we have no difference in race, religion, etc. then would someone say "We don't want to ruin the rest of his life"? You have got to be kidding me a group of teenagers used various racial slurs, hung that poor kid and left him for dead but that officer is basically saying that because they're 14 they didn't know any better and this isn't even the first time that boy was harassed which makes this so much worse especially since it took him being hanged and almost dying for anyone to even bat an eyelashe

Trinity Joseph What upsets me most is how kids so young are even capable of such acts!? What are the parents in their neighborhood teaching them? If that way my kid I would be absolutely appalled. It's one thing to be bullied - this was attempted murder!

With young children, all it takes is that they see (part of) a hanging and don't really comprehend what they're seeing in order for them to mimic it in a (for them) playful way, which would make this an accident. However, the boys at hand are clearly beyond that age and knew fully well what they were doing. In fact, they were actively manipulating the victim into putting the noose on by making it "his turn". If the scene unfolded as is being reported (and it sure sounds believable), then this was conscious and intentional murder, without doubt.

Trinity Joseph Reminds me of what happened with the mentally disabled white boy and those black 18 year olds. That wasn't an attempt at what aboutry btw it's genuinely pretty much the same thing and both things that happened are disgusting crimes that deserved harsh punishment. I'm simply stating it seems to be a weird pattern that interracial crimes are being defended.

As someone who has worked in several restaurants with large freezers, I've gotten trapped myself. I'm 6'4" and 200 pounds. It's hard to open one, I have to put my full weight on them to open them externally, and have to fall into them to open them internally. I think someone could have shut her in there, but given her state I don't know she'd be able to open it herself. When I started my first job I got locked in a freezer during the first week and had to bang on the door for 5 minutes to get someone to pull it open for me, I was 6'3" and 220 pounds. It's hard to believe that she would have gotten in there herself. I may be weak and scrawny, but I think it's unlikely a drunk teenage girl would get into their herself.

aren't freezer doors required to have safety handles on the inside to prevent people from getting locked in? All the walk-in refrigerator and freezer doors I've encountered can be locked so no one can go in but all you have to do is push the button inside to get out even if its locked. That might just be the places I've worked since they're at a university. I would think that should be a pretty universal safety measure though.

Are 14 year olds capable of knowing that hanging someone can kill them? Yup. Did they entice Quincy to endanger himself and then push him, actually causing physical harm and nearly killing him? Yup. If they knew the extent of the damage they could cause, then caused it, I don't think "being a kid" is a defense.

Ragd0ll thank you. I don't get it.. people say they're just kids but they knew. If the tables were turned how many people would say it's "kids being kids". If my child of mixed race decided to do this to someone I wouldn't be against their punishment. I'd be concerned that they're even thinking of doing this at 14.

When does being a kid stop being a thing? 15? 17? 18?.. by 18 you know full well what you are doing and know full well that what you are doing is murder. I have a hard time believing these kids had any other intention other than to kill this kid because of his race... at 14 you know what hanging does and so to put a noose on a life neck and hang him before leaving means you probably knew he would die.

When I was 14 I had a clear understanding of my actions and the consequences. Odds are these kids grew up in a racist environment and it's what they "know". They should be sent to a juvenile detention center. 18 your a legal adult.. 14 < 18 isn't a huge leap in age. The parents should also have evals done on them to determine if they're fit to take care of these 14 year olds.

I know right, like when I was 14 I understood that my actions had consequences that were either positive or negative depending on what I did. That was only 5 years ago. I hate hearing stories like this when teens get away from certain crimes because "oh their young, they don't understand what they are doing, don't ruin their lives by punishing them". Based on this story they knew what they were doing. Letting them go easy is only going to teach them that they can get away from anything, even attempted murder.
