I'm a sucker for these smaller-scale, more down to earth fantasy environments. Villages, farms, bandit camps, local troubles, etc. Love seeing this kind of environment worked on in WoW after every official expansion goes bigger and bigger (which is perfectly understandable, but you know, I'm getting older and crankier, lol)
@MTLMedia Жыл бұрын
Thanks Enthused! We are getting older and crankier.. xD so we learn to appreciate the smaller things. I can totally see a farmer in this zone coming out with his Dwarven shotgun.. "get off me land!!!" XD

Exactly. I think the fun part of map making / design.. is to provide something that makes logical sense, but also enough variation to make it feel new.

I think one of the greatest things about your zones is how they are full of different locations and detailes, and you are always able to put some extra stuff here and there. I didn't comment under latest Arathi update, but I was fascinated by the way you incorporated ogres, trolles, syndicate and a whole elf and troll cities into the area using what where just simple empty mountain ranges. And Northvale/Stormwind region definitely follows that idea, with every part cleverly incorporated into the zone. I think Vanilla WoW lacked proper mountainious locations, except for maybe Stonetalon mountains. Thank you for your fantastic work, I hope you will have a lot of fun working on this and other projects!
@MTLMedia Жыл бұрын
Thanks Retvizan! Thats very kind. I do like to squeeze a lot out of zones yes... And I try to add differentiation. The most important thing is to make the world feel lived in. That is, if there is a space that could make suitable location for Ingame critters.. then thats what makes sense.

@@MTLMedia, I also wanted to ask a little Dun Morough related question. There is this empty valley behind Gnomeregan, unofficially known as "Western Dun Morough", and I was curious - maybe you have some plans to transform this location too? I am not sure that you didn't talk about it in previous videos, maybe I just missed something. I always was dissapointed seeing empty and unused locations in WoW, because many of them have such a great potential

I did see it, it would probably be easy to develop. But yeah, I haven't thought about it. Maybe I should ;)

This is so unbelievably cool - ever since I was a little kid growing up playing WoW I was fascinated with all of the closed zones in the game like the area you used as a basis here. Seeing them come to life and in the style of the vanilla game is like getting a dream come true after so long.

Oh wow thanks Nasca! Thanks for sharing that story. I know exactly what you mean. When I was younger I would spend hours with friend speculating about WoW with my friends... We all had these ideas and crazy views. Its been a pleasure to share this with everyone so many years later.

Hi! It's Great! I'm not familiar with your map yet, but there is a question. How did you connect the new part of the map with Stormwind? There 's a curve there .a wmo that constantly appears and disappears if you look at it from different angles. I 'm looking for an opportunity to split the whole .The Stormwind wmo is divided into pieces and pasted them individually to solve this problem. I'm so glad you're still working on this game. This is my most favorite game. 3.3.5a forever!
@MTLMedia Жыл бұрын
Hi Isl Jack! Good question. The answer is that I didn't. In my dev server, there is a door inside stormwind (matching location) that teleports you from inside to the outside cemetery. It is also possible to access the back, by walking a path around the docks.

Check out my Back of Stormwind video to get a better look at how I got around the WMO.

That town in Northvale looks like an Alteraci village due to orange-coloured roofs. (In WCII it was the national colour of this kingdom) Makes me wonder if you will ever do something with Alterac itself.
@MTLMedia5 ай бұрын
Hey Balobaev, actually the roof coloration comes from existing buildings from Stratholme in the past. Given that we already have blue and red tiles in other towns of Stormwind - I thought orange would look nice with the autumn environment. Alterac is always a possibility though ;)
@balobaev5 ай бұрын
@@MTLMedia one interesting thing is that in WoW the only building in Alterac Mountains that has orange roof is Ravenholdt Manor. Two houses along Lordamere Lake coast for unknown reason have red roofs (despite it being the colour of Stromgarde) and all the other buildings are ruined
@balobaev5 ай бұрын
@@MTLMedia if you will ever start restoring Alterac City, it will be quite complicated due to how small the entire Alterac Mountains zone is in game (especially the snowy area where the ruined city is) and how terrible is its layout. And on top of all that, the ruins of the capital are so tiny that it feels like a burned down village, so it will be quite hard to make it look decent. Stromgarde's depiction in original game is also not very great, but at least its capital has huge walls, several districts, neat little things like the bridge at the entrance and even some subzones like "The Sanctum" and "The Tower of Arathor", while Alterac is just a complete joke.
