What I heard about this... Henk was the Phantom in ALW's Dutch version of his musical for 20 years. Floor, when she was a little girl saw Henk in The Phantom of the Opera. Floor LOVED it, and Henk became her idol. So when she was up there singing with Henk she was fangirling like crazy as this was a dream come true for her! And they became fast friends!

Just love it when Henk stepped out of his comfort zone and sang with that metal growl. He said he would if Floor did a duet with him, and she promised they would do this live with Nightwish when they toured the Netherlands. She kept that promise and it was amazing.

We were there at the Ziggo Dome concert in Amsterdam last Sunday and just wow.. (indeed!) Musical magic & magnificence. At the start of the show, Floor announced that they'd film it all. We already had our hopes up high, but as soon as she said that, we knew that she'd brought Henk for the Nightwish ride (she promised Henk in 2019 on the BZ show). And what a ride it was. The whole concert was absolutely fantastic and their Phantom the grand cherry on the cake. Unforgettable show, still can't believe we were there! That DVD is gonna kick @ss!🤘 Cheers from Amsterdam!

The TV show "Beste Zangers" is not a competition. It is a tribute to each other. They all come to a venue alone and tell life's stories (sometimes very deep and emotional). One is in the hot seat every week and the others sing songs that are important to the one in the hot seat. I recommend the episode that Floor was in the hot seat (although of course Floor does not sing in that episode). I think the whole season is on KZbin with English captions. She and Henk were invited again the next year but then she had some medical problem (and COVID came, of course) where she could not leave Sweden. Floor had to sing from her home studio in Sweden.

Indeed the show is not a competition. The title Beste Zangers can be translated in 2 ways. Best Singers or Dear Singers. In the context of the show where they pay homage to 1 of the artist per episode its the 2nd. "Dear Singers"

Henk Poort is the original Phantom from the Phantom Of The Opera, coming out of the Netherlands. His vocals are wonderful, and Andrew Lloyd Webber said Henk epitomizes everything he foresaw for his Phantom to be. You might want to check him out singing The Sound Of Silence for Floor on this Beste Zangers. Thanks for this great reaction..

Why not check out the Nightwish version with Floor Jansen and Henk Poort? 🙂 They did a suprise performance of it during their concert at Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam three days ago. I was lucky enough to attend this comcert and I can’t even beging to describe the feelings I felt when I heard that first sustained note from Tuomases keys! It was the same one he did back then, that’s why I instantly recognized it and realized what was about to happen. There are several clips of it on YT, go check it out!

It’s astounding that until this show, Floor was virtually unknown in the Netherlands, her home country - this performance with Henk, in the last episode blew her up! As well, most of the other singers did not know her either when the show started. But each week, when one singer was the focus and the others sang songs in tribute to them, Floor tributes brought them to tears almost every week. So consider how much she had won them over by this particular performance - you can see the immense camaraderie they’d all developed!

You can also tell the difference by looking at the attendance at the Nightwish concerts. In 2018 they did a concert in Ziggo Dome that didn’t sell out completely. But now they did not on, but two completely sold out shows and it’s very much due to her performance on Beste Zangers.

Floor sang the first operatic song, 'Vilja Lied", of this Beste Zangers season in honor of Henk Poort, one of her opera idols. This was a shocking performance to the other show participants because none of them were familiar with Floor or her music. Floor agreed to join the cast when she learned that Henk was to be one of the performers.

For me the killer is Floor doing Que Si Siente on this show. She sings in Spanish and does a latin metal feel and just feels so right. The guy who wrote and originally released it is sitting on the couch and his face says " Holy crap! This is what my song should sound like!!!!"

One thing that was touched on a little bit earlier, with nods to Tarja and Marco: you’re feeling the rock vibe, as you wonderfully put it), because they are using the Nightwish arrangement of the song. Nightwish covered Phantom of the Opera on their 2002 album “Century Child”. The backing band here is playing that arrangement as it appeared on the album. The idea behind it was that in most performances, the phantom is portrayed as a simple troubled soul; Nightwish plays up how sinister he is and truly makes him sound like the bad guy, hence the distortion in Henk’s voice. Marco uses that same distortion as well. But this performance is serendipitous: Floor, the current singer of Nightwish, performing the Nightwish arrangement of a song with her idol, who played this very part for years, and is ALW’s favorite phantom.

Not really a competition show like we are used to. Beste Zangers is more like a group of Dutch artists paying tribute to each other by singing one another’s songs, or a song that has a special meaning to another artist. Each week the group pays tribute to that weeks featured singer. No winners are declared. This is where Floor’s career really skyrocketed in her own country. Metal not being popular in the Netherlands, Floor was relatively unknown there. Most the other participants had no idea who Floor was other than “some metal chick.” That all changed during the show. She has 7 or so great Beste Zangers performances. Try “Shallow” next.

Beste zangers is the same as Sing Mienen Song in German. Same concept. Floors performances on Beste Zangers where very very good and her performances on Sing Meinen Song where equally good. They are not on KZbin btw so you will have to look on another platform like Vimeo.

Okay meine liebe Rosalie, here's my infamous "Wall Of Txt" with some background info on that legendary 2019 edition of the Dutch TV show, "Beste Zangers". In English this transl. into "Best Singers" but it can also be taken as "Dear Singers", as in a written invitation. That's what the show is about. No competition or anything. Just accomplished singers gathered together in an intimate setting far from home (this was filmed on Ibiza, if I'm not mistaken). Each episode is dedicated to one of the singers. The other ones perform songs that have a special meaning for the singer at the centre of attention. What's so nice abt Floor in that show was that most of the other singers didn't know her. She was that "metal chick" and not well known in the mainstream. Most of the Dutch television audience didn't know much about her either. That was about to change dramatically. In short, she blew all of them away, singing in German, Dutch, English and Spanish. From the get-go, she set the bar so high that the others stepped up their game and in turn delivered stellar performances when they sang to Floor (and were incredibly nervous). Special mention in this respect: Emma Heesters (a KZbin singer) who sang Floor's song "Strong" to Floor (who had written it for her mother who suffers from chronic RA). Tissues handy for that one! When doing reactions as a non-Dutchie, it's best to go with the English subbed versions that I'll provide the links to. These versions include the lovely before/after banter which provides some very useful & fun context to the songs. The official versions (by broadcaster AVRO/TROS) I would not recommend, since they miss the before/after and also tend to get blocked increasingly. You did the one (Phantom) for which there's no English subbed version on YT, so that's great. Rosalie, time catches up with you. Yesterday and the day before (November 27th & 28th 2022) Floor and Henk performed this duet together in Nightwish @ ZiggoDome in Amsterdam. Floor and Henk did this duet together several times during their solo concerts (incl. PinkPop 2022) but never together with the Nighwish band members, let alone in NW live concerts. But since Floor had promised him during "Beste Zangers" that he could sing it in Nightwish, it had never happened because of COVID. So until the day before yesterday. For Nightwish, however, it was 17 years ago in 2005 that this was last on the set list, at the "End of an Era" concert. of the current members, only Tuomas, Emmpu and Troy were included. No Tarja as Christine and no Marko as the ghost, but Floor and a guest appearance by Henk Poort. Hi, again Rosalie. I always love your Nightwish reactions and your Floor reactions. This was one of several wonderful Floor performances on this show. I am so happy to see her back on tour with Nightwish after her successful breast cancer surgery. What an amazing woman to use her diagnosis to urge women to get their routine mammogram screenings, which enabled her doctors to catch her tumor while it was small and had not spread. Floor got very emotional in Antwerp on the first show she did after her complete recovery diagnosis. It was not surprising given the terror of the last several weeks while she waited for the results from her lymph node tests. At the end of her performance of Sleeping Sun, she burst into tears and could not finish the last verse of the chorus, "sleeping, weeping, with you." It was wonderful to see how supportive her brothers in the band were at that moment. When she turned away from the microphone and wept into a towel, Empuu passed behind her wiping his eyes on his sleeve. Tuomas leaned down toward her, clapping his encouragement, and our gentle giant, Jukka, walked over and put a comforting hand on her back before she walked off stage, with Empuu wiping his eyes again. I think it is only fitting that when in the Netherlands, and you are going to sing Phantom, that you work with the man who played the part of the Phantom in the 1990's in the Dutch production. Great reaction to an awesome musical experience. You should consider looking at Tommy Johansson's (of Sabaton) version of Phantom of the Opera. But to me, the best version is still Nightwish End of an Era concert with Tarja and Marko. Marko is the most awesome Phantom ever, bringing a true menacing and dark presence to the role. thanks for sharing your thoughts and keep rocking.

Henk Poort was for several years the Dutch Phantom so he knows the part inside out. Floor saw Henk as the Phantom when she was younger and became a fan of him. This was the second time Henk used that distortion. First time was when he sang The Sound of Silence for Floor in her episode. Btw. They used the Nightwish arrangement for this version

Beste Zangers is a show that should be copied around the world. They find great singers from The Netherlands and have them sing songs that are important to the spotlight singer. It's not a competition. Just great singing. If you can still find them, there are versions out there with the intros and outros to the songs which add so much to the performances. Every one of the singers is fantastic. Be sure to watch Henk and Emma Heesters sing Vivo Per Lei. It's stunning. Emma was a KZbin-only singer and now does stadium performances because of her exposure on this show. Germany has a similar show called Sing Meine Song. Floor was a guest on that show as well.

Hey Rosalie. Wanted to tell you that floor op tv on yt has all her performances from this show. Including all the intro and outro conversations with English subtitles. This includes them all sitting on the couches together and she talks about the songs she picked from the artist of the day and why and it really gives you insight into the artist and why they wrote the song but also her reasoning to sing it for them and of course her performance. It’s all so good. You loving to know all the reasons of the music and lyrics I think it’s something you would really enjoy. I’m not saying you have to react to them just go enjoy them. It’s something I have on a playlist and watch over and over and that woman can make me cry everytime. She always says she can’t sing anything that she doesn’t feel connected to and that show’s consistently no matter what she’s singing. Have fun

Me too. I concur for all the Floor+Henk duets. I would also love to see both performances of "Dangerous Games". The one they did during Covid, and the live version at Floor's solo concert, (Back to back) because the song is short, may as well do both of them in one reaction . Henk also had a solo concert and invited Floor to sing Phantom and Dangerous Games on his stage. It was also fantastic.

There was actually a thunderstorm going on whilst they were singing this and if you study the video carefully you can see water dripping. It was the last performance of the whole show so they had to get through it. Henk had never done distortion in his singing as in opera distortion is a NO NO but he learnt how to especially for Floor. He agreed to sing the Phantom here if Floor agreed that when Nightwish came to the Netherlands he could sing it with Nightwish. That happened a few days ago.

If you want to get to know Floor a bit better, search for the beste zanger clips on YT that have the intro's to the songs with it. They will tell the backstory of the song, and why she chose to sing that song for the other artist. In this case Floor really wanted to sing this song with Henk as he was the Dutch Phantom and she is a huge fan of him! With yer German girl pouring out, you should try “Vilja lied”. That’s another operatic song with a rock twist, that Floor sang to Henk in the episode that revolved around him. That song was precious to him, as his mother would sing that song around the house when he was a kid.
