Henk Poort is the original Dutch Phantom. The arrangement is from the Nightwish version of the Phantom. Floor has had both musical theatre and operatic training as well as rock music training. She is quite comfortable in moving between styles. In "Shoemaker" for example, she goes 100% opera at the end. When you review "Ghost Love Score" make sure you use the Wacken 2013 version as it is the one with the best production values.

There's a perfectly valid reason why you have not heard of Floor Jansen: Until this season of the show Beste Zangers, the bulk of the Netherlands had never heard of her! Floor is one of those who is bigger outside her home country, but rarely if known at all in her home country. She's a singer in a metal band, yes, but is classically trained, spent years in the conservatory, while Henk, is THE Phantom. He is Andrew Lloyd Webber's favorite Phantom out of all who have played that character. As everyone already mentioned, this arrangement of Phantom of the Opera is the arrangement that is found on Nightwish's 2002 album, Century Child. So you have the lead singer of Nightwish, performing the Nightwish arrangement of a song that Henk knows better than anyone on the planet outside of ALW, Sarah Brightman, and Michael Crawford. When Floor found out that her idol (Henk) was going to be on the show with her, she asked if she could perform this with him.. he agreed, on the condition that he would get to perform it when Nightwish tours through the Netherlands. That show is still on their schedule. As everyone has already mentioned to go down the rabbit hole that is Nightwish, I'll also request that you have a react to this entire season of Beste Zangers. If you search for Jenniezelf's channel, you'll find the episodes not only with English subtitles, but the commentary both before and after their performances. Start with Episode One, which features Henk on the center couch (where everyone else sings songs he's sang or has meaning in his life), and you'll see how they, and the entire Netherlands, were introduced to Floor.

Henk Poort played the "Eric" role in the Dutch "Phantom" production for ages and my queen (💗) Floor Jansen is the lead singer for the world famous Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish. She is the best selling Dutch artist of all time, i guess. So they are both very seasoned performers and it really shows there.

Since Lara Fabian and Johnny Halliday "Requiem pour un fou" was the best duet of the last century... and the Leonard Cohen / Lily Collins "Suzanne" was also last century... There's a few to compete since. Floor and Tim Akkerman duet of "Shallow" show what a great songwriter Lady Gaga actually is. Same show as this, Beste Zangers. Maelle and Guulan "Fragile" was an astonishing duet, framed as a competition, they transcended it with a deeply moving collaboration of utterly opposite voices. Floor is in so many duets of note it's hard to pick just a few. With pregnant Simone Simons in "Sancta Terra". "valley of the Queens" with Marcela & Diane. Marko/Tarja Phantom also gets on the list. Jessie J has been in some great duets. So has Dimash. Of course. Too many to list.

Please check Henk Poort’s version of “Sound of Silence”. He sings it for Floor and it’s really amazing!!! As an opera singer Henk is not used to singing with metal techniques, but for this performance he practiced singing with distortion.

@@JenniferGlatzhofer Forgot something I think is important about her singing style to really get you motivated. During an interview with Floor, she said she is an empath and feels every song she performs, which is passed directly onto anyone listening/watching. There will be plenty of songs where you may need to keep tissues nearby. If you start with the Wacken 2013 concert, note that she was only with the band for 10 months but already had a very commanding stage presence as you will see. Also, all of the orchestra and choir parts you hear are real, recorded as backing tracks for their concerts.

Floor idolized Henk, as she saw him at age 12 in the Dutch production of Phantom. That deep growly, metal voice was a complete surprise for Floor, as you can see by her expression. As you hear more of Floor, you will realize that she can sing anything at anytime. Someone once said that most singers sing the what they can, Floor sings what she wants.

@@JenniferGlatzhofer no worries mate! I've been just doing singing to really be my mental health mindfulness exercise plus strengthening my core. I'm 6'1 & my lungs reach down almost to my navel (which was handy for swimming, but that was a lifetime ago lol) so I've kinda got the infrastructure there to do some cool stuff. I feel very comfy with like Heart or Concrete Blonde songs but I'm enjoying playing with some high stuff too & my best mate is a growling metal singer who happened to come visit me out in the middle of nowhere on the weekend & we did a bit of car karaoke with some pretty sweet harmonies tbh & like she could scream the Layne parts in Alice in Chains song Man in the Box & I would do the Jerry parts. It was so much fun. Then we came home & both just went for it like the neighbours would have probably had an interesting night haha. As you said, pay attention to your voice. It's designed to have all these different strengths, pitches, breaks & so on cos we evolved that way. So yeah I love seeing what people have to say about it all cos everyone adds their own little dusting of their flavour in their reviews. I really look forward to seeing ghost love score. I Want My Tears Back from Buenos Aires is amazing, you'll not see anything like it. So here's cheers from Australia! Keep rocking!

@@JenniferGlatzhofer yeah my mate is an actual in a band performer type, I'm more just having fun but she does want me to do something for her when I go to her place as they have a little studio there & she can go higher than me but I can go lower than her. It's great though if I'm having a panic attack it's quite a fast way to get it to stop just by either quietly singing in public but I'll go in my car if I'm out & just get myself right with my breathing with long held notes, big breaths. Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden has deep sea diver lungs (for his skill there's a live video of Hallowed Be Thy Name where they closed with it after being on stage like 3 hours or something wild) so I can often ground myself that way

I'm glad I found your reaction, and I'm always giddy when I find a new reaction to this performance, not only because I get to watch it again, but also because I know that the reactions themselves are usually filled with disbelief and wonder. I still get chills and to this date I think this is definitely among the top performances ever of this song. This song always gives me chills (since Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford immortalized it!) - and this version just adds to it! Floor & Henk - what a duo! Not going to repeat what so many others have said (he's the orig. Dutch Phantom, she's a metal singer, yadda yadda). What I didn't see recommended (although I haven't scanned all 500 comments) was Floor's version of Vilia Lied, from this same program Beste Zangers. She performed it for Henk when it was his 'day' to sit back - and it's beautiful! Sung in German - there is versions of the video with subtitles, which I recommend seeing! Floor is a magnificent songstress goddess!!

The distortion Henk added was a fun callback to his version of The Sound of Silence which he sang for Floor and had to learn to use distortion to be able to use it

Great reaction from you 👍 Floor and Henk deliberately held the song down in rock vibes. Floor is the undisputed Metal Queen (as you will discover) and Henk was the European Phantom of the Opera. Henk had only once before used distortion in his voice, doing Sound of Silence for Floor in the same show - therefore at the ending of the show, they showed people they could switch roles - Floor opera and Henk metal. (Floor surprised everyone at these 7 episodes, not singing metal once - but everything else, just far better than the original!!) this performance was the end of the season series "Best singers 2019". he started with the episode of Henk Poort on the couch and that Floor Jansen sang the "Vilia leid" in German for Henk. by the way Henk Poort WAS the ghost of the opera in the Netherlands from 1993 to "96

I was already wondering because of the way you pronounced both names. You pronounced them correctly and it sounded very Dutch. There’s a lot more from Floor in Beste Zangers. And the other singers are excellent too. Henk Poort was the Dutch phantom in the musical

The most important things to remember when watching this performance: 1) Floor Jansen grew up idolizing Henk Poort. He's one of the reasons she got into singing 2) Henk was the Dutch Phantom. Literally. He played the Phantom in Dutch theater for multiple years. 3) Henk and Floor made an agreement to do this duet when Henk had only recently heard of Floor that month. She asked him to duet. 4) Floor Jansen is without a doubt the most talented current female vocalist, and arguably the best vocalist of all time

There is nothing that Floor can't do. That's what makes her one of the best singers in the world. Not only can she do it all but she has this ability to make people feel. The goosebumps you got at the beginning is what we call a Floorgasm because whenever she sings she causes a feeling of ecstacy.

Watch the entire 2019 season of Beste Zangers. Everyone has to go out of their comfort zone quite a few times. The 8th/last episode is when everyone does duets. Henk also does Vivo per Lei with Emma (the hot blonde in the maroon dress).

Henk Poort has been the Phantom in the Netherlands for quite a long time he also is one if not the favourite Phantom of A.L. Webber, he is a spectacular performer just as Floor is :)

Henk was Floor inspiration when growing up. He sings The Sound of Silence for Floor, but does the band Disturbed version. Absolutely beautiful. Floor also does some other good songs during the Show.
