The beauty of RuneScape is no matter what you do its progression in the game weather it be to quests or diaries or better gear. Everything you do in the game serves some sort of purpose so do it all and enjoy the fact you cutting that tree is progress

Well said I've said similar. Runescape is always progress no matter how much or little you can commit time wise. Some MMOs like WoW are so far different that you can lose progress if you aren't active. The fact you always move forward in some way is why runescape hooks people I think

Well, a lot of players which come from other games are used to ... 90% combat. Follow arrow, kill 10 wolves until lvl and gear and kill the raid boss for more gear. That's literally 90% of other Mmos. Obviously to modern gamers runescape is a completely different and unusual experience. They have no clue about 'Skilling' or 'Puzzles'. And the combat is completely autistic to normal ... people. We're pretty biased...

Coming from a perspective of person who has spent over 10'000 hours on osrs, it's funny seeing your opinions that are still "relatively fresh and new" and often even slightly incorrect, but full of excitement and passion due to the joy of discovery and increasing understanding of the game... You're definitely starting to get the perspective of osrs player who has seen a lot of things, but still has tons of stuff to discover and it'll be interesting to see how those opinions and feelings change over time. So yeah, I absolutely love watching videos of people just discovering the game for first time and fumbling around.. Preach brother. The OSRS community is more than welcoming for new players. Whether you are an experienced MMO player or new.. the OSRS community is a good train to hop on. I too have put thousands of hours into WoW and OSRS (~10k hrs in WoW since 2006 and well over 30k hrs into OSRS since 2002) and I can honestly tell you that just like any MMO.. you will have to put in the work to reap the rewards. You want that sick glad mount by the end of the pvp season (WoW) then you're going to have to work hard for it.. same applies for OSRS and those sick rare pets. Except in WoW, once the season is gone.. you can't get that mount anymore... which imo is pointless. Set a goal, work towards it, and when it finally comes to fruition.. nothing amounts to that joy of accomplishment. If you have never given OSRS a "real" shot, maybe only played for 10hrs and then ditched it.. give it another go and keep progressing. It takes some time to get into the meat and potatoes of the game. Its not a graphic's "pretty to look at" game (there are HD settings nowadays) but the actual gameplay in the end-game PvM scene is not one to be reckoned with. Get into Gielinor, find cool people to play with or a clan, and start your new MMO adventure. I can assure you, its gonna be a long and oh so much fun ride. 😎👌

As someone who's played since 2007, I always tell beginners to make their first goal as 'complete all the free-to-play quests'. There's not that many and by the end you'll have a good general understand of the game. Some require you to level up a few skills and you should have Rune armor by the end. Buy membership after completing this goal and you'll know what you want to do by then.
@ignskeletons2 ай бұрын
Don't play efficiently at first, just enjoy the world, don't be afraid to get lost and genuinely discover things for the first time as that's more than half the fun. Use the free-to-play quests as a 'general guideline' of what to do as a new player but don't feel you have to hyper focus on that. Try all the skills available, explore, watch out for scammers at the grand exchange (nothing in life is free), and yea. Just enjoy

Old players have absolutely no freaking clue what new player experience is like. I've started a bit over a year ago and oh my the frustration to see NO ONE understanding what I was going through. I really hated this game at first, I had to try and retry for months before finally getting real genuine fun from this game. It was hard... But the good new is, absolutely no regrets, I don't see myself ever stopping playing. I wish all new players to "survive" through that first month of struggle, it's so worth it. If you really want to help a new player, please for the love of god do NOT tell them to "do whatever you want", that's the worst thing you could say! They're already lost and you're just going to make it worse. Instead, you could offer them a few diverse and short term goals to work towards, so they pick the one they feel like to try and start making their own decisions.
@0xmoo3 ай бұрын
I actually agree with this. I think most people would prefer being given a goal to achieve instead of blindly going in and trying to play for a month. When I started my Ironman and I was basically a new player in 2017 I was following a guide and loved every bit of it. It taught me so much about the game and if I didn’t have it I would’ve just been overwhelmed and gotten nowhere. Some people think guides ruin the fun for new players etc but that’s just not true. You need to get taught the ropes first imo then you really see why osrs shines.

@@rubeuscubeus Haha, it's a pet peeve of mine. "Raising a question" is when a set of circumstances makes it obvious there is a question that needs to be asked, for example "we found life deep under the Antarctic ice sheet, which raises the question of how it got there. "Begging he question" is bundling an answer to a question within itself. Say you're discussing what sort of things children should be taught at school, and you and the other person disagree on what's harmful and what isn't. If the other person asks "So you think we should teach children harmful things?" they're begging the question, because those things being harmful is the point of the dispute. Another example would be "we're having lunch now because it's lunchtime". Yeah, but, it's lunchtime because we're having lunch. It's a thing that gets 'misused' a lot, and it's possible 10 years later we'll have to redefine which is which because dictionaries follow usage. But, I will have the correct definition etched on my gravestone regardless.

I think that I know what wow players and new players feel when they start runescape. Most games normally give you directions and guide the player through progression. WoW has a main questline that guides you, it gives you an objective immediately, there's no much choice: follow the questline and do more quests, unlock new regions and do more quests there. But runescape doesn't have that. You have most content unlocked for you at the beginning, so is up to the player to decide how to experience and progress their character. For someone that already knows what runescape has to offer is easy to choose what is next or the paths that you could take, but for a new player, that doesn't even know the armour tiers, obviously they are going to feel lost, they are going to get bored because the only thing they know and they are shown is chopping trees and click to attack.

Modern MMOs convinced everyone that you’re suppose to maximize your time or you won’t have fun. WoW classic and OSRS convinced you that the journey and community was the way to have fun. Simplicity does a lot more for me than needing to do 7 hours of research before doing anything considered interesting. When I got back into OSRS, I was leveling with a 2H sword and it took about 2 minutes before someone told me I should get a scimitar if I was looking to level faster. This isnt a huge event in my time on the game, but having a complete stranger give me this advice made me like the game more.

You're so right in all your points. Enjoyed just listening and agreeing lol. It's 2024. Anyone who still claims that OSRS is going strong and active due to "nostalgia" is not accurate. Game definitely got its energy and original base players through nostalgia, but it's evolved to its own game attracting new players and growing with a new generation. This isin't nostalgia, it's a GOOD game. Only nostalgic thing is the fact the game doesn't have microtransactions or BS stuff that modern games have. It's grounded.

The few times I’ve tried to get into it my options seemed to be play the game for a couple years and THEN think about pvp maybe, or attempt to build some specialized low level account which isn’t very easy to do as a new player. What would be the best way for someone like me to get into Runescape?

You have to have some sort of discipline to just grind out an account for a few months. It’s not like wow where you can just buy a boost and start gearing in a day….. peoples accounts that are maxed can take years to build
@tubesism3 ай бұрын
@@appathegoat classic (vanilla) wow isn’t like that. You do have to grind out the account. Gotta get to 60, get some raid gear, finish quests/rep grinds for obscure pvp items like the nifty stopwatch or the furblog medicine pouch. Maybe you even go for the rank 14 pvp gear. The difference is in WoW pvp is part of the journey. It’s super common to run into fights while leveling up on pvp servers. Rep grinds are often contested and fought over. Right now in osrs I’m sorta doing a “pure” build with the idea in mind that I might stop by the wilderness for some pvp along the way, but this is also my fresh main account and I’m a new player, so I don’t know how feasible this actually is. At some point I’ll inevitably need to level defence, but I’m not sure when exactly. I’m not trying to hardcore min/max pvp on a 1st character, but I also don’t want to ignore pvp entirely until I’m ultra decked out and high level.

How long do I have to play the same game? Until I complete my goals. This past year I "finished" my wow account by getting the last of the 3 pinnacle achievements. I got Gladiator 3 times: Burning Crusade S2, Wrath of the Lich King S8, and more recently BFA S2. I earned AOTC for every raid tier since it was released in mists of pandaria by beating the final boss of each raid on heroic difficulty before the next patch. Finally, this year I earned Cutting Edge by killing Fyrakk on mythic difficulty before the end of the patch. I've completed my goals. I started playing in 2006 and it was a good time. Had a lot of fun and made a lot of memories.

i tried WoW last year and like this guy with RS i was overwhelmed. Building my character to fit the meta and having to preform precise attack strings was annoying. I constantly felt i was watching videos so they may be different games but if you didn't grow up playing one or the other then they are going to feel foreign. That's just natural. I agree 100% with you in the aspect that people just have to be willing to give games a chance even if it's not fun for a couple hours. My viewpoint is if someone can find love and passion for a game like WoW or Rs then there has to be something there i am not seeing. That's the only reason i gave WoW a chance for as long as i did. BTW they brought Arcanist back if you didn't know. It's free on Steam.

15:00 that’s why I play osrs. It’s an afk game that you can get benefits from. Like afk 200 hours and you can use that 200 afked hours to do TOA or other end game stuff. Most afk games you afk 200 hours and yay you get another picture to afk to and never anything to do with that afked time.

Runescape is the most in-depth convoluted game I have ever played. At surface level, it seems so basic and rudimentary, but Jagex really made one of the best games of all time so early in gaming history. There is ALWAYS something to do and many ways to do it.

"Getting max levels is something that you do in Runescape once you understand the game and you've played a lot of it" Or you can be me, who got 99 wc and 99 fm in the first 3 months of playing the game. I've spent the whole summer chopping and burning willow logs to see if I can commit to a task. Pre-bonfire firemaking was rough tho.

As a WoW player, the worst parts about runescape is the combat (clicking) and how a lot of BiS items aren’t soulbound. You can just GE stand and wait for lucky raiders to sell items on day one if you have the gp stack.
@iamworried349263 ай бұрын
Everything in RuneScape is mostly clicking. If you want to see how high the combat ceiling can get, go watch a team complete tob or the gdq cox speedrun. Being able to buy bis items can allow variety and cool account builds

I remember back when I was in middle school and high school over 10 years ago, before the EOC happened. I would always try convince the teachers and game clubs to unblock runescape, as there was some educational stuff to be had, and then they unblocked Minecraft instead. They said it was more educational... I had some real beef with anyone who played Minecraft for a long time after that lol.... Like how dare you unblock this game that was new when I have been pushing on Runescape for much longer.

I've never even thought about the insane progression of our character. It is extremely funny to realize our character is just stumbling around doing whatever they want... until they are casually slaying powerful gods with nothing but determination and a few prayers 🤣.m

The difference between wow and RuneScape is the same as the difference between people, some people have to be told what to do and where to go (wow) and others take charge and make their own path / lead and give orders (osrs) not saying there is a lesser of the two, just a fact. Osrs confuses people because it doesn’t say when you first enter lumby: “get x items and start waterfall quest” as a person who has sunk loads of hours into both, this is how I find it.

I am sure nostalgia helps but I made my main account in 2020 played it for a year and came back in2024 and I am playing a hardcore ironman and it's so fun. No nostalgia at all . Just a good game ❤

With the bit about Sea Shanty 2; we know that he’s playing a HCGIM with some friends that are more knowledgeable about the game. I’m thinking maybe they took him around the game world and when the got to Port Sarim they popped off cuz, ya know, how could you not?
@duskworker84692 ай бұрын
the guides are more necessary nowadays because people don't gossip in the sewers about what they know anymore. it's a different kind of world. Also to build on your commentary, I find it interesting that some of the biggest power spikes in player progression in OSRS come from unlocking new faster travel paths I will say as a guy who played Runescape Classic as a kid and remembers the first day of Runescape 2, yadda yadda, they are making skilling too easy with all these event minigames. It has the double purpose of giving active players an advantage over afk/botters, which I welcome, but they have to be careful about it. For example the new trees being on a timer and the frantic clicking on the event entities feels a bit too overwhelming for me, and for woodcutting in general, but now it is the 'meta' way of progressing. There was something special about walking into a tree area and using your higher WC level to bully everyone else out.

most people never start off with let me get all 99s, heck even vets who started from scratch on osrs didn't go like that. Each person has their own path and journey to progress their toon. You slowly get stronger then kill better monsters get better loot and gear complete quest for upgrade your gear, then onc eyou have a little gp you start lvling the more expensive skills, and progress from there. Runescape isnt like some other mmorp where you can max everything out and best gear in 3-4 months.

As someone who has played over 10-15k hours on RuneScape I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. I’m currently sucked in right now on a hc Ironman and I love it. No complaints what so ever. If you didn’t play as a kid you just won’t understand the game. I understand fully why people don’t like or can’t get into the game. It’s slow with very little excitement. It’s all about progression. He goes on about the adventure. Even as a kid playing this game, Adventure wouldn’t be the word I would use. It’s getting that dopamine from drops or levels. Constant sense of progression no matter what you get into. Endless goals. The one thing can say to recommend this game. It will always be there for you. You can take a break for years and come right back to where you left off with very little changes to the game. Unlike wow or any mmo out there. Osrs is the shit and if you didn’t play as a kid you will most likely not get attached. Nostalgia is part of it but I wouldn’t consider it to be the leading factor. You have to play the game for weeks/months to see what it really is and what it has to offer as a game.

@@swolejohn8658 I’ve sort of been tossing this idea around in my head of streaming a regular play through of osrs a couple times a week and chopping it all up in to content. Not so much a guide but just a “this is what I would do in this game if I was making a new account” kind of thing.
