Schuyler has really perfected the art of premium Bible production. I usually like black Bibles in translations that are more literal, but there is something absolutely special about this one. I have the black pearl calfskin and love it in full yapp. I'm basically an RSV/ESV guy and have those in Schuyler so the construction and 'feel' is as expected--superb. Being new to the NLT I'm reading it cover to cover (I'm in second Chronicles now) for fun and am enjoying it immensely! It's the same old beloved stories, just told by a new narrator. And it's just so great to find a Bible maker who hasn't cheapened out and sent their printing to Red China.

To me the wine color is more of a royal proper color as the outside desert camel reminds me of the journey through the Bible on a camel out in the Middle East lol

PS--I've had Christians criticize me in the past for buying these very expensive Schuyler Bibles (I own several translations). My response? When David and Solomon were designing and building the Lord's temple they didn't go to Wal-Mart for materials; no, they brought in the best from their known world. I have felt the same about the word of God for a half century; His word deserves the best I can afford. Best wishes from the Houston area!

I have an NIV in the Tuscany. It will patina more than the desert calf skin. I have the marbled mahogany in the NASB

I ended up purchasing this same NLT after seeing your review a few weeks ago….the BEST review for this Bible btw. TY for that! It’s evident EVB put a lot of thought into crafting this new NLT. The color-way, clean layout, font, font size & shade & quality of paper all work together to make this Bible both aesthetically pleasing and very comfortable and easy on the eyes to read. I agree, the 28 gsm is on the thin side, and I’d very much prefer 36 gsm paper. In reading it I’m finding that what the paper lacks in thickness, it more than makes up in the quality of the paper and the clean layout and font size. It’s still very easy to read, even with the slight show through. I’ll just have to be more careful turning pages than with my bibles with 36-45gsm as to not dog ear them and crease the pages. You did a fantastic job describing Desert Camel leather, but WOW! In person, it was still such a surprise. Next to Black Pearl, Desert Camel is the most unique leather EVB has used to date. My copy has soft, thick & dramatically textured leather with deep natural lines & creases on the back cover that reviles my RL Allan KJV 53 w/highland goatskin. The leather on the front has interesting variations in the light & dark browns and plenty of texture, just not as dramatic as the section on back cover. That’s the great thing about hand bound leather bibles. Each piece of leather is uniquely different and even the same piece of leather can have dramatic variations in texture, thickness and characteristic marks. Thanks again for your excellent review! 👍😊

Do Bible publishers send reviewers copies of the same bible to review or is the just a coincidence? I’ve seen this Bible on like 3 other channels. Along with that CSB hardback bible that’s white and lime green.

Yes, they do, but I don't participate in any of the partnership programs. I like saying what I feel like without having to worry about a free source of Bibles drying up. I had ordered this one a while ago, and it just so happened that Evangelical Bibles shipped them all at the same time (since they all came into stock at the same time).
