I used to make Chex mix myself many years ago. It wasn't available packaged, but you can buy the plain Chex cereal, some peanuts, some pretzels, and then just butter, garlic powder, and Worchestershire sauce as the coating, then put on a backing pan and pop in the oven for a while. The recipe used to be on the Chex cereal, but I don't know if it still is or not. I think some of the after taste you get from some Hershey bars (and other chocolates at times) is dependent on the shelf age - if they've been out for a while they can eventually pick up some slight metallic taste to them. If they start getting that white streakiness to them, then they're well past their "good" stage.

I used to live very close to Pittsburgh but now I live about 2 hours away in Erie. Sarris candy is so good! Ive been able to purchase their chocolate at local gas stations before & you can also get it online. They have an old fashioned ice cream parlor attached to their store which is so awesome! Glad you got to experience it!

I'm from Central PA and am a huge fan of Sarris brand chocolate! Their chocolate covered pretzels are one of my all time favorite snacks. However, I'm also a big fan of Hershey chocolate. I love seeing how other people feel about candy from here!

Lovely video! I’m in Central Ohio not far from Pittsburg. We have the Utz crisps here, but the Sarah’s chocolate must be a local candy. Chex mix is amazing! Goes fabulous with a beer. Tina is spot on - the holiday shoes Reese’s do taste better for some reason. I also love the Russel Stover chocolates, they are delish!! My daughter told me she went all over Cincinnati to some specialty shops and made me an “ Alex and Kate” holiday box for Christmas. We both love your channel. Yes, Dance Moms was in Pittsburgh. I'm from a city pretty close to Pittsburgh and Sarris chocolate covered pretzels are my favorite. It's a treat to go visit their store and eat some of their homemade ice cream also. They are a local store but you can order online and get it shipped.

I have never heard of Sarris here in Louisiana. Pralines and peanut brittle is something I see a lot at Christmas time here. Pralines is a year round thing. I’m putting together a box from here in New Orleans. A lot of people make their own Oreo truffles.

InTheKitchenWithKate there’s a recipe for Oreo truffles but I used red velvet Oreos and put them in a food processor and blend them with cream cheese and for balls then freeze them and sip them in chocolate I use ghiradelli white chocolate. I just LOVE how you guys say "Father Christmas" so much better than Santa Claus...LOL! Well, my mom make Chex Mix from scratch and because of it....I cannot stand the bagged stuff. As you know I cannot stand Hershey chocolate not even the kisses but the Sarris chocolate looked DELICIOUS! I’m making Chex mix tomorrow, lol! I make it a few times a year, I’ve made it my own with a few tweaks! I also make what’s called “ Muddy Buddy’s” with Chex cereal, you melt chocolate chips & peanut butter together pour it over the cereal , mix, & when it’s coated, you put it in a zip bag, shake powdered sugar in the bag to coat, then put it on a sheet pan to dry a bit! My son, who’s 28, it’s been his favorite since he was small. Thanks to you both for such great videos, Merry Christmas!

I'm from the town where peanut butter meltaways were originally invented and made by a company called Gardner's Candies. They were sold to Sarris a few years ago and were rebranded. But locally we still have them as Gardner's Candies peanut butter meltaways. I'm so glad you were able to try them, they are my all time favorite candy!

There are Russell stover stores that sell regular Russell stover candy as well as the reject candies. The irregular shaped or deformed candy pieces . You can buy them in bags that come by the pound. Up to five pond bags .

Try Oreos deep fried in Tempura batter. Also Milky Way (Mars, I think in the UK), and Snickers, deep fried in Tempura batter. I use the fun size bars, freeze them, thoroughly coat with batter and fry in 350 F oil till just golden brown. Reminds me of a hot and gooey chocolate chip cookie.

FYI - you can easily make chocolate covered pretzels. There are plenty of recipes online. The homemade version considerably predates the commercial. Chex mix was for decades a recipe that everyone made at home for the holidays. Chex cereal sales would skyrocket during the season - and still do. Chex finally started to market the mix itself about 15 - 20 years ago.

I can’t believe you’ve never been sent Chex Mix! Chex is a cereal so Alex, you were spot on when you said it looked like cereal. There is something similar called Gardetto’s which I prefer to Chex Mix. It is made with rye chips, pretzels, and bread sticks as well. Perhaps I will have to create a box from Boston and New Hampshire, where I am from. I really love your videos and I think I am almost caught up on all of them after stumbling across one about a month ago. I also cannot wait to find out what happens on the finale of WTF series 2!!! Hershey’s kisses are generally the same chocolate but it’s the fillings that change the taste of the chocolate itself. I’m not a big fan of the milk chocolate but I like the milk when they are the filled ones. I’m so using your “squidgy”! Love it!!!

Out of curiosity, I looked Sarris up online and it's mainly serving the east coast, the closest states to Pennsylvania. I live on the west coast and have never heard of Sarris. This company does sell online so other states and countries can have them shipped. I did a search to see if there was any store here in southern California that carried any Sarris candies within 100 miles of my city and there were none.

As far as your question about the states getting along, we sometimes do... we have our rival states, especially in college football, but you find fans from all over. I live in Georgia and I'm a tennessee fan, my husband and kids are alabama. It just all depends on who you are and what you like

Kate and Alex there are many regional food or snacks here in the State. Brennan's use to serve the best smokey cheddar cheese spread, they have recently close down. You will also a peacan will be made different region to region especially in the deep South, dark karo or karo light syrup. While others will be made molasses. It is the same with buttermilk chess, some are made with corn meal believe it or not. It depends on what settlers had to cooks. Happy Holidays from Texas

For example, Mexican Food in Northern Texas or upper State will vary from "interior" (meaning prepared food in Mexico) and Tex-Mex is the Americanization of of interior food. You find the same in Florida with food traditions dealing with Cuba and P. Rico. I guess that is why Americans are given such a hard time when we travel outside the US. Just about anything another country can offer can be found somewhere in the US.

I love the show. You have mentioned on many occasions about the amount of air in our chip bags. I believe that is to protect the chips during shipping. The air allows the chips to move around in the bag and not get demolished by the weight of other bags. It seems like you were cheated when you open them, but without the air, you would get a bag of crumbs. Keep the videos coming. I love your descriptions of the products you try. Hey Kate and Alex! I’m happy to see you’ve gotten even more American candy boxes. Pennsylvania is close to New York and I was born and raised in New York. Therefore, I grew up eating UTZ potato chips because they were in all the bodegas near me. I’ve always liked them. The Hershey kisses are ok for me until I tried the filled ones. I just got mint truffle ones this holiday season. They are my second fave ones. I like the cherry filled ones the most. I also just bought recently a bag of Reese’s clusters. Those are filled with peanut butter and peanuts and pecans plus caramel and than covered in chocolate. It must be new cuz I never saw them before and are by far the best Reese’s product ever lol. Anyway even tho I lived close to Pennsylvania I’ve never heard of Sarris. They look delicious tho. Last I must say I love this Russell stover chocolates. Ever since I was a kid/teen I loved all the different kinds they have. My fave always being the raspberry/strawberry cream filled ones and the fudge filled ones. I love your videos!! They always make me smile. I live in Tennessee, USA and our state is divided into 3 VERY distinct regions (West, Middle and East). They are strikingly different! In East Tennessee, the mint striped Kisses are WILDLY popular. I once had an unopened bag that I hoarded for a few months after Christmas. Shockingly, a co-worker offered me $25 for them. Chex mix is made from Chex cereal. In stores this time of year, you can find the seasoning packets to make your own at home. I think the seasoning packets are free actually.

The Chex mix actually has cereal pieces in them. Which is the Chex. The traditional and bold is my favorite and the hard round pieces are the best thing out of the bag. But you all need to try all of them. They have so many different flavors in the Chex mix bags. Hope you all enjoy those!

InTheKitchenWithKate yes the square pieces that have holes in them are the cereal pieces. We have so many different flavors just in that cereal. Lol they have so many spicy, bold, traditional, cheese, truffle, etc. in the Chex mix. let me know how you think those hard round pieces taste! I’d love to know how you and Alex like them!!

I’m so happy!! I’m from Pittsburgh as well. I’m a newer follower and I saw that you had a new candy video up, but I saw those Sarris chocolate covered pretzels and it made me even more excited!! I love those pretzels and the s’mores! I think Sarris is more local to Pittsburgh. Also, my friends and I pronounce it like the name Sarah, so “sair-uh”.

I have been to the Dance Mom's Studio after stopping by To see where the Groundhog lives... Punxsutawney... I had taken an oversized load to the N.Y. New Jersey Line...I thought I would never get out of Pittsburgh... The studio was pretty cool. The driveway needs work.

Russell Stover has been around for about 97 years, Hershey has been around for 124 years. I'm from about 20 minutes outside Philadelphia Pennsylvania. We don't have Sarris candy here & I'm about 8 hours away from Pittsburg Pennsylvania. The problem with Hershey's is that it does have an after taste. So, they are not my favorite, but if you go to Hershey Pennsylvania, you will see, it's a magical place. I grew up going there as a child & it was one of my favorite places to go for a day trip! Especially the Chocolate Factory. If you take the Chocolate Factory Ride. It takes you through the process of how everything is made & the story behind Milton Hershey. It's cool. I am from Pittsburgh! Saris candy is only in Pittsburgh, but when people come from all around the country to Pittsburgh, they either come for our sports teams or a lot of times our Saris Candy

Everytime my family mix the 2-hour trip to my cousin's in Pittsburgh we always stop in Canonsburg to get some Sarris candy. Hershey's is nostalgic and classic. But for me Sarris is to. When I was in high school or if you call it Secondary School we sold bars of Sarris chocolate as a fundraiser. My favorite is the almond milk chocolate, but my brother definitely preferred chocolate and caramel.
