The one-time charge of a new regular plastic Easy Card is $100 NTD, which is the same wherever you purchase it in Taiwan. Some special Easy Card equivalent designs, such as little dolls, key chains, charms, etc., which you can find in the convenient stores, will cost more. Then, you can deposit money to and reload your card for using in transportation (even for U-bike (registration of your card is required), taxi, ferry, góndola, and parking) and in all convenient stores as well as many shops when you see the Easy Card logo at the cashiers. To the best of my knowledge, you can reload the card in any convenient stores and pharmacy chains (Watsons or Cosmetics) besides at the MRT stations, but they only accept cash.

BTW, personally I think the MRT ride package at the airport is a good option for the tourists. The fare from the airport to Taipei Station is $160 NT. With the package, you use the token (that is the single ride ticket of MRT) to get to Taipei Station with the price of $155, and then you have your $200 loaded Easy Card to extend your ride to other locations from Taipei Station and to buy food. With your Easy Card to ride to Taipei, and if you only load $200 as the package suggested, after you get to Taipei there are only $40 left in your Easy Card and you will have to reload soon….hopefully she reminded you this and suggested you to deposit more to your Easy Card with your credit card since you don’t have cash.
