I use to live near Camden Road station and regularly used the North London Line. When I first used it it was under invested and run down. Over years since TfL took over the route and created London Overground. The line saw had a huge amount of improvement and investment. Some of the interesting trains I have seen on the line have to be an A4 Pacific, The Royle Train, The Caledonian Sleeper and the Nuclear train. I believe it’s the only rail line that can easily connect to all the other main lines.

Excellent comment this is Matthew, and I agree with everything you have said regarding the NLL. One other thing I have to say is THANK YOU for your interest in my video and channel. Regards Mike.

The North London line has always been busy with freight. In the 1940s and 1950s the pattern was 6 trains an hour - three passenger and three freight. The freight were normally hauled by Devons Road Jinties or 4MT 43000 class 2-6-0. Also seen were Feltham Q1 0-6-0, Stratford J17, J19 0-6-0 and 76000 class 2-6-0. The electrification was LT-style 4th rail. Devons Road got the first class 20 diesels which replaced its steam locos. The electric trains were mostly LNWR Oerlikon stock.

I used to travel on the North London Line from West Hampstead to Hampstead Heath in the early 1960s and remember the six trains an hour. I have a very vague memory of traveling with my father in the Oerlikon stock, so that must have been around 1956/7.
@ianhelps37493 жыл бұрын
It all looks different with the 25kv overhead wires. I travelled on the line a couple of times in the 1970s when it had third rail and operated by Class 501 units. Still think it's a shame that Broad Street closed. Because it was in a prime location in the City, British Rail realised that they could make a fortune by selling off the site, so the station was deliberately run down .
@antman09ful13 жыл бұрын
Yeah I know what you mean, I travelled into Broad Street a few times in them days Ian.
