Naval aircrewman here. There was zero challenge in this landing. Any Naval aviator (Marines are Naval aviators) could have done the same job. Excellence is ordinary. Until you see these professionals put a helo down on the pitching deck of a frigate in a storm in the North Atlantic... you haven’t seen anything. BZ to all of my fellow servicemen and women.

I was thinking of the same thing. What was so special as he was landing. Then I seen where he landed. His wheels landed on 3 small cement pads in the grass. That is the reason for the headline. I don't know if the copter has a camera mounted to see the landing wheels or not. If he landed without seeing the pads and relied on visual surroundings distances, he is one hell of a pilot. I didn't see no ground crew as a spotter. If there was one then he could have guided him on the spots. But the videographer didn't show anyone else around in that area so I don't think there was one.

But honestly most of the folks here going ape are what I call war romantics. They go nuts over anything active military or anything honoring the military. Nena A I detected a slight imbalance in the landing. It seemed as though the front left wheel touched down a little before the right front wheel. Because I have lived on military bases, I have seen aircrafts practice touchdowns daily. For those not accustomed to such, it might be a jaw dropping sight, no doubt.☮️

Gary Steele But this is not wartime, and the "pad" is pretty level. How pilots flew in 'Nam was heroic from documentary footage I recall seeing. Comparatively, the conditions here make this landing tame and lame. The honor goes to the aviators of old, in addition to flying machines that were less technically advanced. ☮️
