It's nice because it creates an air of welcoming/understanding. Since Inked is such a popular show for people in the main stream media, it's important that these show actually show a professional side and show people that tattooing is a craft. The video is labeled as bad tattoos and "Tattoo artists draw examples of how to fix and cover bad tattoos, and explain what makes them bad." . They don't do that. Except 2 or 3 of the artists who genuinely try. Videos like these that label themselves as how to fix cover ups + why they're bad and literally just mock em close the door to people with bad tattoos trying to actually get them covered up properly. You embarrass them and without knowing their background, shut them out from trying to come into a shop to get actual good work done. Just cause a tattoo looks shitty or drawn poorly doesn't mean it's scratcher work, it could have just been a shitty tattoo artist or apprentice. As an apprentice myself, these videos don't contribute anything to the industry but make it harder for people to genuinely seek professional understanding of the craft and their options. These videos just show professionals acting unprofessional about questions/things related to their actual fucking careers. You can tell who is actually passionate about their work and who is actually professional face to face to work with. They're the ones who care beyond this gimmicky show and actually don't talk shit about their clients behind their backs for their mistakes or past decisions.

Being able to talk and laugh with your artist changes the whole experience massively.
@Cincelia

@@xGordzulax ok I might have been a bit harsh on them but I was with a friend who needed a cover up because it faded very quickly and on that day there was a different tattoo artist available (her first tattoo artist travelled abroad for work) and everything went well she went twice for consultation and the stencil was great but all of a sudden he changed the design and didn't follow the stencil in the middle of tattooing and the cover up was on her back so see couldn't see anything. She only got to see it in the bathroom in front of a mirror for a break and called me so I could pick her up. I know its rare and I know the fun in great communication with the tattoo artist and the overall experience but after seeing my friend in tears traumatized me a bit. by the way the stencil was a flower and he tattooed lines that looked like half a head and 2 eyes on.

People acting all offended by the artists joking around as if they'd actually pull this stuff on their own clients. Cover ups in are a specialty. Not every artist is capable of doing it and some of these guys might not be too into them. In actual shops, most of them wouldn't troll clients like this if they can't do a cover. They'd simply tell them "Sorry can't do it" and move on. You're all pissy as if the shit they're scribbling are actually going to be the cover ups. Ikr everyone is giving the artists so much shit, but they’re doing this for fun. It’s not like they’re being paid by actual clients to cover something up, they’re there to entertain us and themselves. Besides a lot of these would be really hard to cover up, and they wouldn’t take these kinds of clients in real life anyway. I liked that two of them were having fun trying to explain what they would do, and the rest of them were having fun by doodling and laughing with their friends.

I was fine with the ones just goofing around but getting serious with the guy with Keloid scars, saying they wouldn’t want to touch him without medical intervention and a consultation with a dermatologist first, worried that they’d just harm him further, and the ones that genuinely came up with hypothetical designs like that girl with the 3D tree sketch. The artists that continued making jokes about such a serious case are the ones that genuinely pissed me off, like Sara with the maze, it was extremely demeaning. Joking about bad tattoo decisions is one thing, but mocking a physical condition that somebody can’t help and probably already feels insecure about is vile in my book
