What keeps bringing me back to the World of Warcraft, is simply the feelings it gives you exploring an entire world with soundtracks like this. It really makes you feel what is going on in the game and it gives you a sense of nostalgia when you start to miss playing the game. Every time i hear a certain song i attach it with memories of where i was at and who i was playing the game with. WoW is much more than just a video game, its a second world to explore for some of us.

WoD wasn't bad because of it's theme , music or looks and the like. Those were excellent. It was bad because it's gameplay outside of instanced dungeons was incredibly lacking and anybody who wasn't actively raiding from the start didn't get the jumpstart to do so. I would also argue that the alternate timeline stuff is...in some ways really good, but in other ways at the very least risky. Usually when time travel is used as a shortcut to the awesome is when the world's integrity and therefore immersion suffers. But it was mostly that gameplay was going for this lenghtly do nothing crap. BFA was also similar. On the other hand I consider MoP to be one of the best expansions. While Shadowlands is by far the worst. ONe could argue that the story was in fact, never truly good. One could say that every xpac did some dumb shit. But no expansions failed in everything regarding story/writing like Shadowlands did.

The soundtrack of WoD makes me especially sad, for the sole reason of how great this expac could've become. I mean, the Dungeons were great - looking right at ya, Grimrail Depot - raids were damn awesome, especially mechanical-wise; BRF had such a great atmosphere. Hell, travelling through Draenor was a joy in itself, flying mounts in 6.2 ruined the immersion of it though. The quest- & storylines were also great to get yourself immersed into, they had a great PoV in WoD. And holy shite, the fucking leveling experience was so massive, Spires of Arak was a pleasure altogether, leveling in Legion now just cannot compare to the amount of fun it was to strife through Draenor. It could've easily become Wrath 2.0, in terms of fun, playerbase and general longevity, if it hadn't been for missing world content, failed major patch (hello there 6.cam) and the amount of things blizz cut out. It could've stood at the top of expansions, it could've had people mourning for it, like players did for wrath after cata dropped on live. so yeah, i'm already nostalgic for WoD, at least for what it could've become if blizz stuck to the plan and didn't change so much throughout the expac. The things it had made it great, but it sadly missed the ascension to something greater.
@ricardskrumins72825 жыл бұрын
And almost noone sees this, it seems like. Me and my dad started retail in wod and it was the most fun ive had in wow since my cata guild on a private server (i played lots of private servers prior, since 5 years old). It makes us both very sad and disapointed at what the playerbase doesnt see or just skips over because ''the big streamers said so''. Its the most fatal flaw of our comunity- no individual, thought out opinion, just following popular people like sheep. WoD is my most favourite expansion to date, even with its flaws, it had a lot going for it and as allways, the soundtrack is amazing!
@danielschroder45255 жыл бұрын
Raiding as a mage in BRF / HF was pinnacle for me, personally. I mean, shooting 10 arcane missiles instead of 5, or the proc where pyroblast had no cooldown and you just went mad with throwing pyros. I loved the fights, especially Iron Maidens (old combustion was so powerful here!) and Archimonde (last phase was nuts). Hans'gar and Franzok was also hilarious, haha.

Hellscream's theme is incredible catchy and brutally epic. Also, as far as I know is pretty much original. Haven't listened to a similar theme in academic or popular music, something that happens a lot when talking about film and video game music. "Times change" is not such a great musical piece on its own but once you know the cinematic it becomes a completely different experience. Suddenly you are surprised reciting dialogues as "We will never be slaves, but we will be conquerers". Then we have all what the other themes represent, such as in game content or just the mere fantastic land and creatures from Draenor. Although it is not "absolute music", once you know the huge content behind it, the experience becomes wider and more profound than just the mere tasting of music. *seemociona*
@oliverthomas81429 жыл бұрын
+Alberto Valdez Quinto to the notion of absolute music: Music is man-made, originating in the mind. Therefore, music is born in a place of movement, colour, sound, light and above all, limitless reinvention. Nothing is absolute everything Blizzard have created they owe to others, as do all artists, everywhere. Aside from that, the entire soundtrack is wonderful by my standards :D
@AlbertoValdezQuintoMusic9 жыл бұрын
+Oliver Thomas I agree, I meant to use the term "absolute music" to describe the music that is not made in dependence of another type of content. :D For example Beethoven String Quartets. It is true that they are made inspired by various other elements (mostly nature in the case of Beethoven, for example) but they are not made for another human creation or media. A case "in-between" would be Berlioz Symphony Fantastic, as its called "programatic". Its all about the convention of terms :( But yes, this music is amazing!
