I would say that the reason Kpop Artist or "Idols" get their numbers run up so high because of one main reason. The fandom. The fans know how much time, money, and effort that these Idols go through. Once an Artist releases something their work (The artist) is done and it's up to the fandom to get them their accolades, breaking records and such. They share so much of their lives with fans, in a way it really feels like we know them, and want them to do well. Even to a point where it can even sometimes be toxic, unfortunately. To many many more it's all love.

To be honest with you I wasn't expecting this so soon. I always knew Lisa had huge massive potential. But this is even a shock for Blinks here. I think the NUMBER ONE reason why Kpop groups are so sucessful, is the interaction between fans and the idol, when a group drops a music video, it's not just the single video and its over, they do reactions to their own final product (the MV), they release the Dance Practice version, the release the live performance version, the release "The Making of MV", they do QnA on their social media, their agency make them go on TV shows, some even have their own little web show. I would say they are more busy after a release of a album than making them. For example TWICE and BTS, they release albums like clockwork. Where maybe artist in the west do it in a slower pace, one reason is Kpop have endless amount songwriters to help make music and the idols perform it.

Fan bases with K-Pop is world wide, and the fans are more hardcore, than just American fans. People like Beyoncé or very popular artist bring in numbers like this, but not all American artist do. I think, it’s all what K-pop has to offer as to why they are so popular. They don’t do thing half way, yes some stuff is trash like any other artist, but they put the work in, training for years before they even debut, like top of the class. Other artist gradually get better the more they practice and grow as artist. K-pop artist train so much, and come out the gate pretty good, then they grow leaps and bonds, hopefully, the longer they are out. The one thing I noticed the most that is different between K-pop artist and other artist, is the production of songs and music videos are top notch, transitions, colors, looks or visuals, and dances are at the top. I’m not a fan of all k-pop groups, some music I’m just not feeling, just like any other artist music I don’t like. But I give them props for their hard work and dedication to make really cool music videos.

I think a good “rule of thumb” is to ask yourself if you’ve ever been dismissive of that culture in the past, if yes, then maybe in good conscience leave it alone. I said it before under other reaction videos but I want to make you understand the whole kpop thing. Also, I don't want to sound rude or anything, these are things that I noticed over the years, since I first joined the fandom in 2014. K-pop is an _industry_ , not a genre or a scene (when you think of a scene, you think of punk or hip hop, which they are a like cultures, rather than a massification or what is mainstream - generally). It's often used as an umbrella term to describe the whole korean popular music (rock, r&b, hip hop and pop) but at the same time westeners think of kpop as merely idol music (Blackpink are idols) and idol groups usually mix many genre within a song, it's not just teen pop or bubblegum pop. The best way to describe the whole thing is that the music genres are from USA while the idol industry was born firstly in Japan and then, the formula spread. Japanese industry is different from the Korean one, but both are equally interesting imo. Quick side note: Japanese music contents are really hard to find on KZbin, it's not like Japanese Animation that are heavily promoted in the West since the 70s (yes, Italy was one of the first few country to welcome Japanese Animation into their broadcasting!). On the other side we have Korea and Korean agencies uses the "Motown formula" (Motown is still a label btw, but their golden era was in the 60s, with artists like The Supremes, the Jackson 5, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and many others). This formula consited on being, as Motown Wikipedia page says, "fastidiously groomed [grooming as in make up and combing hair], dressed and choreographed for live performances". Motown Records trained their artists very very young and unexperienced in dance, acting, vocals, they way they should talk, how to behave on national TV and overall being visually appealing. Korea, furthermore, saw the chance to expand their market and now here we are, you and Lisa, this reaction was possible imo of the exposure through KZbin. Hope I didn't bore you, have a great day

Yeah but its an industry where fans are still actually buying albums and paying for digital downloads, as well as supporting live tv shows like Inkigayo. Something sadly lacking in the west. Spotify only has 150 million users, way too much weight is put on that. Lalisa its 800k physical sales, a couple million paid downloads just in China and probably a billion youtube views in a year, but you will have Billboard telling us Drakes Lover boy is a bigger album based mainly on Spotify. Lalisa will generate 10X the income that album does

One important thing to know about KPop is that it has tremendous crossover appeal throughout Asian countries. But they probably have the hugest followings from Korea (of course), Japan, and the U.S. The main reason is because they not only sing in Korean, but also English and Japanese. They also recruit talent from all Asian countries, including China, so they probably have a huge Chinese following, too. And Asian Americans are the fastest growing minority demographic in the states, so that helps groups like Blackpink, Twice, and BTS made it big in the U.S. These 3 groups easily pack arenas in big metropolitan areas in the U.S. And Lisa's appeal in the U.S. is just going to grow, because she is pretty fluent in English, as you can tell from this video. Not all KPop stars are as fluent as she is.

Lisa is a bit of a strange story. Being Thai, she is not well liked in Korea. However, she is arguably more popular in the west. The other three members are Korean born, but one was raised in New Zealand and one was raised in Australia. I think this is why the group has such a broad appeal. Two members are extremely fluent in English. Lisa is slightly less fluent, but holds her own. Only Jisoo was raised in Korea, and only speaks minimal English. I don't want to see a repeat of the past and as you know. Part of that has been due to lack of representation. BlackPink's diversity no question is a huge asset here. The fan-culture of "KPOP Idols" is just totally different than any other fanbase in other parts of the world. Take streaming alone (KZbin, Spotify, and other music platforms). Fans of kpop groups all make a concerted effort to stream their idols' videos. This isn't just in Korea but in other countries worldwide (not just in Asia). The whole point is to try and bring prestige to their chosen groups. Companies do play a hand in encouraging mass-purchasing of albums (because they drive sales from it) and the kind of stan-culture that brings attention and momentum to their groups. Speaking as a long-time multi-fandom fan (i.e. someone who supports multiple groups and solo artists, not just one), fan-culture can bring much good (i.e. community, support, etc) but it can also bring the absolute worst. Tread carefully in the waters of "Kpop". There's something there for everybody but its not the same as any other music industry. I wouldn't say its better or worse. Just culturally -- different.
