It was hard to comprehend the quantity and quality at Japan Classic Sunday, held in Dorst, The Netherlands on 7th July 2024. It never disappoints!
Honda, Toyota, Datsun/Nissan, Mitsubishi, Daihatsu, Suzuki, Subaru and even Hyundai, Kia and Daewoo were represented as near-neighbours were also welcomed. We took our Perodua Kenari.
Support HubNut at hubnut.org
More on the event at japanclassicsunday.nl - it usually takes place on the first Sunday in July.
Also, apologies to ‪@petrolpunx‬ for getting the name wrong. Very HubNut...

It was my 3rd visit this year and it was gorgeous ! It´s such a nice concept of a show. No BS, just meeting old friends, making new ones, see a incredible mix of cars. I was afraid they can´t find a new location and it was a relief when the news came in that they found a replacement that´s even bigger then the old one. I´ll be there next year again for sure.

I am Japanese. I never thought I'd see a Nissan Cherry in this video. I'm very surprised and impressed. It was released when I was 9 years old, so it's a car from 53 years ago (1970). The 1968 Mazda Luce 1800 and the first generation Mitsubishi Lancer and 1967-1978 Mazda Familia 1000 are also very rare cars these days. The Mazda 626 was sold in Japan under the name Capella. Old Japanese cars are popular in the USA too, but many of them have been modified. It's nice to see that in Europe they are preserved in their original form. This is just my personal guess, but I think Mitsubishi Motors started selling cars under the name "Colt" because anti-Japanese sentiment was strong at the time in 1971 and they wanted to avoid the name "Mitsubishi," which was a military manufacturer. That was the year the Emperor and Empress visited Belgium, Britain, West Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, France, and Switzerland for the first time since the war, in an effort to restore friendly relations.

The blue Datsun 1200 really highlights the relationship between BMC and DATSUN in the late 50's-to-60's. To me, in side-profile it looked like a Wolseley/Riley 1500 back-end had been grafted onto an Austin A55 Cambridge front-end. The front-profile and rear profile fit said models as well. Great and interesting video. Diolch mawr

So nice and much more entertaining, Ian, you filming the cars as they drive in, which you did on previous JCS as well as on some Selshley Walsh Weekenders ... We then get to see the cars (and their headlights) moving and hear them a bit as well. Furthermore, we get to see the sometimes bemused, but mostly happy faces of driver and/or passenger! Nice you're on 115K now, but I do hope the subs grow even further fast ...

We did get the 180B coupe in the UK, I owned one, it was my first ever car, a 180B SSS, I swapped it for a 125cc motorbike as the car needed a new clutch and the owner couldn't afford to pay a garage to do the work and needed transport. One change of clutch later on my parents driveway it remains one of my favourite ever cars I've owned, despite me only having it about 6 months until parking it on it's roof in a ditch. (Side note, they had a 5 speed dog leg gearbox that was really heavy when I dropped it on myself trying to refit it after putting a new clutch in using just ramps and axle stands!)

This is the best coverage yet! I am seriously considering attendance next year. Bonus points for rotary content ... apart from NZ and Oz, you'll struggle to see an RX-4 anywhere. The Rx-3 that showed up is ultra rare. It is actually an Rx-3SP, a USDM only edition. Special mention too for the 616. Also available as a rotary engined option and badged variously as a Capella or Rx-2 depending on the market. The 616 though is a rare enough sight in Europe. I think I've already talked myself into a roadtrip ......

I really couldn't keep my eyes off this video! So many great cars all in one place, and a lot of models I grew up with that I just don't see on the roads anymore. Kudos to the owners who have kept these 40+ year old cars in some cases on the road and still in good working order. The dark blue Laurel is similar to a company car my father had when I first got my license, and I took my first driving test in a Toyota Starlet estate.

When i was a kid in the ´80s my grandparents had a Mazda 1800 de luxe station wagon from 1971 i believe. It was painted "chicken yellow" as i called it and was in excellent condition. It lived on a farm and was used once every week for carrying crates of egg to a grocery shop 15 km away which my grandfathers brother owned and ran., hence it was very low mileage. Even the wiper blades were original matte silver painted... I wish i could have bought it off them and still have it but sadly they traded it for a brand new 626 in 1989 and i was too young at only 14

Awesome show, as always! Always a highlight of the year for me. My god, I haven't seen any Mazda 323's in ages. They've all just vanished here in Finland. So happy to see so many of them. Seeing a clean N15 Almera made me so happy. Have been repairing a rusty (shocking, I know) N15 Almera. Bought because the interior was so clean. Just stood on grass for a couple of years. All it needs is sheets of steel and some brakes for the MOT. Not gonna be a trailer/show queen. It will see black schmoo aplenty. Cheers, Ian!

Would love to find another one for a Sunday cruiser but the rarity of spare parts is a concern.

HubNut gem! Awesome turnout of vehicles with encyclopaedic knowledge to identify them in real time! A real treat. That M100 Sirion at 1:07:30 isn't exactly the same as either the yellow '98 Sirion or Miss Daisy which have both graced the fleet. It has flares on the apron (to lead into side-skirts), mesh grille, fog lights and a centred aerial mount rather than it being pillar-mounted so that all means it has the 4-pot 1.3L 101bhp (@7000rpm) engine. I couldn't see wheels clearly but the UK-market 5-gear manual 1.3SL has 6-spoke (model-specific) trims whereas the F-Speed has 5-spoke alloys to go with its sequential paddles which can supersede 4-speed auto changes (for an extra grand on RRP). The previous paragraph contains pretty much the sum total of my knowledge of Japanese cars (not forgetting the nugget that Daihatsus like to rust). Kudos to HubNut!

But as I've currently got a thing for cars with mudflaps, so any car from that meet up with mudflaps gets my vote.👍👌👏👏
