I'm happy for her. But let's be honest. This isn't a story about a brave woman, charting a path to freedom and equality for other women. This is a story of privilege and the fact that money, fame, royalty and the privilege they bring open doors and allow you rights that regular people do not have. But, the world likes Hollywood endings, so we'll go with the former storyline.

The hope is it still creates a precedent that will help other women. A journey is made of small steps...
@MarshaABranchАй бұрын
@@mimisor66 - What one hopes and what actually is, or actually happens often do not align. Rules do not change because of what royals get to do. The fact is that she always had that privilege. She ranked higher than her husband. We need to understand the rules if we truly want to effect change. And hoping that things will change because a princess exercised a liberty ordinary women can't will not bear fruit. What it creates is angry men who decide they want to teach their wives a lesson if they dare "step out of line" like Mahra did. A precedent would be Mahra getting involved in politics and working to implement legislation to change things, even if those attempts are repeatedly thwarted. Or, more simply, standing up to her father to press for better lives for her sisters, who do not share the favour from their father that Mahra has; and two of whom are practically imprisoned by their own father, simply for wanting the better lives we seem to think Mahra's actions will bring about for other women.
@mimisor66Ай бұрын
@@MarshaABranch we are both talking as outsiders. Yes, she has a lot of privilege. But one cannot dismiss the power of example and how it can create acceptance and thus a new normality. In history, sometimes a few privileged women opened the way for other less privileged women. Let's not discount that! Seems to me the Western world is promoting more and more a marxist view of the world, with such a strong highlight on class distinctions, scary for us that lived through it.

My ex-husband pulled that same crap. I married him, but he continued to date. We had a very lavish wedding at a prestigious and exclusive CT country club. It cost about as much as the average house at that time. We had only been married for 2 months and 3 weeks when I found out that he had never stopped seeing other women. I called my dad and told him what I had learned and within 2 hours I had a lawyer and a legal separation. I have often thought how blessed I am to live in the west. There are women all over the globe who are forced to stay in bad marriages due to their religion and culture. I am thrilled at the thought of that beginning to change.

Not just religion and culture, but in my case, for example, I'm from a family with no money. So I couldn't leave for s while as I would have ended up on the street as I had nowhere to go. One family member, with a spare room, even said "it's a shame he doesn't beat you as then you could go to s shelter". Oh. Thanks. By the way that family member was one of the people who helped to raise me. It's so sad that I was stuck for 2.5 years due to social, and family failings. If I ever have children, they will always be welcome to come home. I'm so glad that you had the unwaivering support of your family 💕 I hope that your life if now heading in wonderful direction and that you find your perfect partner 🤍

What she did is an absolute alpha woman move and an act of individuality and self respect that just not done in the Arab world. Ladies, don't settle. There's happiness after the storm. And if you meet someone along the way that loves you, it makes life sweeter!

I don't know in which state you are residing ( it determines certain differences in civil procedures) . It's the first time I've heard about this rule. I live in a red state, conservative , therefore, mostly inclined to discourage divorce, both, for moral AND political reasons. You do not need to prove abandonment (most states) YOU DO NOT NEED TO prove causality ( just😊 cause) since you only need to cite irreconcilable differences to file for divorce ( no guilty party). Unless the plaintiff is suing the defendant in criminal court ovr😊

It all comes down to how he sees their mothers. He shows favor to the offspring of the women that he favors best. It’s very tribal, very primitive. These are not sophisticated individuals, not by a mile. He loves his foreign women the most (Mahra’s mother is Greek) so by consequence he favors his mixed offspring. Before Princess Haya of Jordan left him his favorite daughter was the daughter that he had with her, Al Jalila. He would prance about at the royal escort in London with her, his daughter Al Jalila, by the arm; something that he had never done with any of his daughters. Mahra has been her replacement ever since. He uses her to triangulate and show Al Jalila, who is now with her run away mother in London, that he’s found a new favorite. It’s all one very petty, awfully immature game for him. He loves no one, he’s too evil, self-centered and entitled for that. Mahra should know that if she wants to avoid any future disappointment.

Wow, after all that stunning expensive wedding and romantic gestures between them. Now, a year later, they are divorcing after their 1st child was born a few months ago. I am glad that the princess did not put up with her philandering husband's neglect of her.

I'm extremely proud of her! She is bold and introduced change to the world in which women are humiliated in unjust ways in many areas of their lives! However, my desire is that she forgives the father of her child. It is best to bring him back into her daughter's life. I'm pray that by now, he has learned a very hard lesson forever more! I am praying for them in the name of Jesus Christ. I pray someone will go preach the gospel to Sheikh Mana at the UK.🙏

I have no respect for mahra either. Even she has done nothing to have her 2 sisters released from jail for trying to escape their disgusting father. Shame on her.

If Dubai wants to modernise, and to be seen to modernise and give women the equal rights they are entitled to in to 21st century, then they need to uphold the wedding values and commitment of one man to one woman.

If you look at history a little, man can divorce by saying "i divorce you" 3 times. The only women that could divorce in the same way, were the women with royal blood. Only thing is the sultan had the last word to say. So how is it than?

They want to keep the family close and in some cases they want the bloodline to stay within the family. The more educated are now doing DNA and genetic testing because of the close breeding. As we know, it can create issues.

11:49 thing is I’ve known people and it’s doesn’t matter about the woman been from a different culture usually it’s the way of the man. Also her wedding dress, her hair,clothes, education and her business I’m shocked she’s been allowed to do anyone of these things let alone all of them and more. Just shows how she’s definitely her dad’s favourite it’s a shame her siblings but on the other hand it’s lovely to see a man love his daughter so much he has changed his ways of thinking.

It’s really amazing how she has stood for what she believes in. I just hope the people she has a strong influence on have the same support and outcome as she has because unfortunately she is possibly one in a million young women who are given such support from her family especially her royal family members on this cultural beliefs from men. I hope this doesn’t end up other women meeting a different result than she has.
