Toured it once in the early 80's when my dad was the FE at Fort Ritchie. The most fascinating thing to me was being under the building and seeing how it was connected to the mountain.

I served inside and yes...the Blast doors existed when I was assigned there in 1975. We took a bus into the tunnel to go to work......Believe me...it was a special place..Everything you needed to live for a long time sealed in. The mess hall even had dioramas in the form of large windows so you could eat in the desert, mountains, rain forests or the beach.... I even remember (sp) Emmitsburg where we would jump from cliffs into the water filled strip mine.. Good times. now 72 and a memory for me.

I work inside that mountain back in 1979, we had everything you can think of in there. It was nothing bad about it. It was just protection for top people like the president and others. I was there for 2years. I was young just getting out high school, to me it was fun. Today looking back i feel very important to have been chosen by the u.s government to work there as young man. Something best keep to yourself.😎
