Interesting video, Ramon. I have a couple of generic pressure transducers with some cables that I made for my Vantage and Vantage Pro. I haven't tried them for in-cylinder pressure testing as I assumed they weren't good enough. However, after watching this I may go experiment with them. I saw in another comment here that you call yourself "100% KZbin certified." I, too, am the same and while I haven't yet mastered the scope as well as you have, I have fixed some cars that local shops couldn't fix. When you watch the right channels you can become very knowledgeable and your channel proves that. Well done!

Ramon , as always thanks go out to you. I got one question about the fluke sensor: Are the newer versions of this sensor still working properly? I was told by various sources that fluke a couple of years ago changed the internal design/digital signal processing and the result is a too low resolution, chopped signal. I'd then suppose your PV 350 is at least 3 years old because of the accurate signal. Thanks again for your time and dedication.
@kyhomegarage34306 жыл бұрын
juergen scholl I didn’t know that. My unit is made in USA and its probably 4-5 years old. It would be shame if Fluke changed design on this tool. I will do some more research. Thank you my friend. 👍

Hi, I have the PV350 but can't find a way of connecting it to the car. I have the WPS500 hose that goes in the cylinder, but what's the part that connects the PV350 to that?
@MasterChief-sl9ro5 жыл бұрын
You just need an adapter that threads into the Connector that the Fluke comes with. Just a normal shop air hose connector for the PICO hose..
@stevepark55046 жыл бұрын
A transducer training course by John Thorton , suggests using the Kpa setting. One PSI = 6.9Kpa so setting the unit to Kpa gives 7 times the resolution of the PSI setting. Seven data points per PSI. I mounted a 9v battery holder to the outside of my PV350's case. I like to take the battery out when it's not in use. The external holder allows me to do it without fussing with that tiny screw.
@kyhomegarage34306 жыл бұрын
steve park that makes perfect sense. I was thinking abut that. I think I will make look up table on my picoscope to make custom probe that I can use Kpa setting and pico will do conversion to Psi for me. Thank you for sharing 👍👍

The 8bit vs 12bit was directed at me, Ramon. That's OK. But you are enjoying 12bit vertical resolution with your high end PICO. Your waveforms would look very different, quality wise at 8 bit. Not that any of this would solve the accuracy problems you're experiencing.

You selected 500 PSI Then, told us you meant 300 PSI But, ultimately went with 100 PSI. At least it seems to be the case.

It could be the pressure sensor is defective. But I smell a probe calibration mistake. I think the multiplier is wrong causing overshoot not only on the minimums but also the maximums on the compression towers. Boyle's Law applies to this type of work. Use the pressure and volume at the start of the compression stroke and the volume @ TDC (including the volume of the test hose) and calculate what the final pressure should be. The answer will be about half of what your waveform scale is displaying. Goes for the WPS500 and the FLUKE. They don't obey Boyle's Law either, though not as bad as your "calibrated" cheap sensor.

And finally, Ramon...we're all having fun here. You, me and our followers all like this stuff. There's a lot to it and it's all very interesting.

Not only is a non-defective, properly calibrated $12 generic pressure sensor adequate, it is better than the WPS500 at 100x the cost. The generic sensor will adhere to Boyle's Law. The WPS500 will violate it. Step on and step off and back on a bathroom scale rapidly. The dial will swing wildly past your weight and again past zero. The WPS500 exhibits this effect. It isn't properly dampened. It overshoots on its way up and again on its way down. The reported values are false. They lead to the false consensus that running compression PSI is 50% of WOT crank compression PSI. As part of my reply to Keith's negative comment on my channel, I stated my intent to make a video challenging that consensus. The lowly generic pressure sensor is better dampened. The readings will conform to Boyle. The compression towers will peak closer to 30% of WOT crank pressure.

@@theGADGETSplaylist Do you have evidence (links to waveforms, experiment reports) to back up such serious allegations regarding this particular brand of sensor? Also, how exactly do you apply Boyle's law to rapidly expanding/compressing gas?
@theGADGETSplaylist6 жыл бұрын
@@DmitriyL_Arithmechanics - On what basis do you think "rapidly expanding/compressing gas" negates Boyle's Law? In a WOT crank compression test, all of these sensors, including the $15 generic sensor and mechanical gauge agree with each other. And all follow Boyle. On a running compression test, they diverge. Only the generic sensor and mechanical gauge (as best as it can be read) remain consistent with Boyle. I was hoping to do a video on the subject later. I'm in the middle of a house renovation here. I'll get to it when I can.
