Hi Paul. Love your videos. Is there a more detailed video on forms or can you tell me how you edit CCTs rather than create them via this function. So if someone submits a new CCT item via form, and then wants to edit the entry, how would that work. Say in the example you have there, the person adds themselves as an entry, but later wants to change the photo or bio without creating.a duplicate entry? Thank you

Hi Paul, as always thanks for the video. I wanted to know 2 things. 1. Why to create the "Company" Manually instead of adding for example a TAG or META and filter automaticly with that? 2. There is no wat to "autocomplete" this fields automaticly? 3. Imagine you need to add a Field of Country... How can you do this? You need to set every contry manually? 4. I think would be great to have a separate video about Forms. Thanks!!

Basically, q1 and 3 are some of the current limitations of CCT's. They can't use any form of taxonomy or tags as they are self contained inside their own DB table and not linked to external tables. Hopefully, this is something that can be expanded upon if possible in the future. Q2, not that I'm aware of, but this is still a very early new feature. Q4 it looks like that will be on the cards for sure. :0)

DEFINITELY, I would love to see a full demo on the Jet Engine Form feature. I have tried using the new JetForms plugin for Gutenberg but I seemed to be having conflicts when I enabled the Forms option in Jet Engine and activated the JetForms plugin. I seem to have problems when I am using calculations with repeater fields. The documentation from JetEngine is far from clear on this feature of their forms tool. So, I would hope that you can dive into combining the use of the repeater feature and doing calculations in a repeater field, and extracting several calculated values for use in the rest of the form. Also, the calculations are extremely limited with essentially the basic math functions addition, subtraction, multiplication and division being the only functions supported. Is there a way to do more complex calculations?

Hi Paul. Great video as always. Question: It does not seem like you can setup Relations between CCT like you can with CPT. From what I saw in thins video, it seems linking to a Post Type is somewhat synonymous with setting up a Relation between CPT's but I am still a bit confused on this. So am I correct in assuming that if I need to setup a Relation between say "Sellers" and "Listings" then those would need to be setup as CPT vs CCT? OR Is linking a CCT to Post types essentially the same thing? Ultimately what I am trying to do is set up a 1 to many relationship: 1 Seller - Many Listings (Ads) as one would find in a classifieds site.

FANTASTIC, I’ve been following you for several years, I’m from Brazil and I understand you very well and I really didn’t know that these types of templates were really ready and that we can mess with Elementor but I have a question that will help me a lot, I’m making a guide of advertisers and classifieds in my city and there is no tutorial on this because I imagine that I should do a certain job but if I do one I could tell me how I do to create different fields for different categories for example Mechanics will be different from Real Estate and if I create by example Advertisers I will have to create separate Mechanics and Properties with type of advertisers to be able to make a form for each one because the information is different I hope you understood me and I would be very grateful if you helped me with this because I am 1 year trying to find something and nothing or if you know of a tutorial that talks about this subject I am immensely grateful and continue like this because your tutorials are too much in advance thank you from c a strong hug and much health !!!

Hey Paul great staff, just a question, except of speed in queries is there any other reason to use CCTs instead of CPTs? And duplicate content when you want to make a CCT to have single page is not very good for SEO purposes, it would be better if crocoblock could make a CCT with post features (Title, Content, Feautred image etc) in the same table of database and not use the default table of wordpress posts. What do you think? Thank you
@WPTuts
@WPTuts 3 жыл бұрын
There are a couple of benefits of stripping data out of the standard WP tables and into their own tables. As mentioned, speed is the primary one but also the overall speed of WP should be better as the database tables used for CCT's won't be referenced at all until a page that lists them is used. This should just keep the core of WP leaner and less bloated and prone to slow down. I agree that there is still a way to go with what can be done with CCT's, but this is still the initial release and I'm hoping they'll be able to add in a lot more useful features moving forward. CCT's right now are limited in their use cases, but it's still good to have them and use them in the right scenarios. :0)

Two questions. Could I use CCT's to create a messaging system between student and tutor? Would it be better to create said Students/Tutors using CPT's or CCTs? I note that CCT can now be accessed via REST API where ar CPT can't. I say this as I would also like to create a confirmation system via email link that uses post to update the relevant CCT meta_value from 0 to 1. I would like to do these things in house so to speak rather than having to purchase and add more 3rd party add-ons/plug-ins.

Great overview, Paul. Thanks! Wondering about making changes in the parallel universes of the CCTs and the posts for the single pages. Do the changes need to be applied to both? Let’s say, in your client example, a person switches from Apple to Google, do you have to make that change both in CCT and in the post?
@WPTuts
@WPTuts 3 жыл бұрын
No, the related post only stores the basic name and bio, all the other information is stored in the CCT. Unfortunately, at the moment making a change in one doesn't reflect in the other. However, I've not tested this using the option to edit content via a frontend form which may yield different results and update the relevant data in both sections (post and CCT). If I get a chance tomorrow I'll see of I can setup a frontend edit option and test it there.

Can you please give us a video about the options pages with jetEngine? I was trying to play around with it to see what it could do, but I can't figure it out. The instructions on their site are just not really clear. BTW, thank you so much for the videos you do!!! It has helped me immensly! Also, What I've been trying to do is come up with a post type called "Wall Posts" where people can post images and thoughts like on Facebook and others can comment on them. I've gotten really close, but just not quite there. I do have wpDiscuz for the commenting, but it won't let me put it on a custom content type. Only a post type. So I thought a repeater field set would work but I need to make the form so that others can use it on anyone's post type. If you could maybe use this as an example for a video? or point me in the right direction? I've tried getting into coding, but there's just so much to learn. Anyways, thanks!

A Custom Content Type (CCT) is a type of table. It says something about the structure of the database, I think. In this table or CCT you enter new data. I would advise you to keep the changes to the structure of your site in matters of data types behind the website, so on the dashboard. And make good data entry forms to fill the CCTs with data on the front.

@@joukenienhuis6888 I ended up going with unlimited elements (huge collection + creating my own widgets + the new loop builder is pretty sweet) and Dynamic Content for Elementor (hugely useful for dynamic content, but I actually haven’t used the templating system yet). But yeah, I do have Elementor Pro. I think in the end, packages like The Plus Addons are only useful for those who want a mix of new features (parallax, etc.) and styles (if you’re not so confident with customizing your widgets with either the Elementor tools or custom CSS), but that’s not me. With all that being said and in the interest of a thorough answer, I’m in the process of slowly moving away from Elementor. The code not being optimized is part of it, but mainly it’s because I find it, if not bothersome, at least not fun anymore to build websites with it. It always feels too complex and bloated to use in the back-end. While on the other hand, I have a great time using GenerateBlocks or Zion. (Plus, you know… the price of Elementor). The only thing I haven’t really found an alternative to yet is the Crocoblock suite, which is hugely useful when building more dynamic / complex websites. If you have one, I’m all ears. 😊

Tuts, can you clone the CCT from one site to another? export it does, but I didn't find import ?

I am no expert, but as I look at the video Paul says the CCTs are all stored as separate tables, so you could also copy the table in the database and then import the table in the othe site. And maybe a specific field that needs to be changed, but I haven looked into that yet.

Hi. Thank you very much for this tutorial. I was able to do everything successfully but I tried to edit the data from a form and failed to edit the custom content types from the form. I would really appreciate some kind of information. Greetings

As I understand it, the forms are to insert data and not to edit it. You need to go to the dashboard to edit the data. If you want to edit the form fields, you can choose the formbuilder option in the jet engine on the dashboard. If you want to edit the data, you need to edit the post and the data in the listing.

@@tomlinwilding perhaps it is possible to make such a form, but it is not possible with the form created in this video. You will need to edit the data in the backend. Or make a new frontend form which is made for editing.

I need to have user register, access a frontend dash in their account then create a profile page/ landing page. They need to be able to customise the page background, profile photo, add a diary and possibly link it to their google diary, input phone number and other information as an option. Can I use JetEngine to do this? I see it as a customisable profile page, with simple UI mobile friendly

You should be able to do most if not all of that. You can assign a lot of information dynamic values in your templates to handle those things.

I find the way the single page functionality works to be a bit odd and inefficient. One of the big selling points of using a CCT is that the data is stored in a separate DB table to improve performance. But if you want to turn on the single page functionality for a CCT, you are actually making two entries in two different tables (one in the default CPT table and one in the CCT table). So if you need the use of single page, wouldn't it make more sense to just use a CPT instead, which would result in one entry? Seems to me that a CCT should have it's own method for displaying a single page that is pulled directly from the same CCT record and table, I am just curious if anyone else has any opinions on that?
@YuriLeonardoLopes

O vídeo é antigo mas.... Has Single Page --> Não seria melhor utilizar apenas um "Custom Post Type"? Um CPT, contem todas as tabelas de um Post e ao invés de vincular estes campos, poderíamos adicionar diretamente os dados em um CPT. Não entendi a vantagem do CCT.

Would be even better if we had access to featured image, as well as post excerpt for RSS feeds, etc. of course I am not sure where Jet is going with this, my guess is they have much more planned ...
@WPTuts
@WPTuts 3 жыл бұрын
Exactly. If you look historically at many of the first versions of Jet plugins they are more a simple proof of concept and fairly bare bones. If you look at v1 of JetEngine, it certainly was no match for the likes of ACF, PODS, Toolset, etc. Now, it has become incredibly feature rich and very much a viable alternative to those tools. I'm sure CCT's will develop along the same lines with testing, experimentation and community feedback helping shape where it will eventually end up. :)

Excellent 'Tut' Paul👍Very useful info! Was thinking CCT's could be used for a business listing site... Or, would CPT's be a better option? I'm fairly new to the Croco world, but would anybody know if used as a biz listing site, can entries be linked to a payment gateway? (I know Jetbooking and Appointment can utilise Woo checkout). If this were possible, any clever people out there know how to set up a recurring payment system with maybe the 1st month free? Just a thought 🤔..... Yes Paul, have used forms previously, but a dedicated Tut on them would be very much appreciated..... Thanks again!

Hi Steve. I too wanted to add a payment gateway to a JetEngine form and despite getting nowhere with support I did find the instructions and code snippet to do this. You can, if you have it, create a frontend form with PAFE which has payment features for both PayPal and Stripe. But if you'd like the instructions and snippet for JetEngine drop me a line to robert.remlap.uk@gmail.com and I'll send it to you.

Hey Paul, What is the main disadvantage of using custom content type instead of custom post type?
@WPTuts

Organisation. If you want to organise your CCTs like you would with normal CPTs then you can't currently use taxonomies. That, IMHO is the biggest shortcoming right now.

@@msvmanikantasrivishnu7788 absolutely spot on, but the issue they will always face (as with most online businesses that sell to the world) is that they need to factor their costs into their market value and price accordingly.
