Since 2015 i have listened to all of Kate Liu’s pieces that she played during the Chopin Piano Competition at least 100 times or more. As far as i am concern she was and is the first prize winner( gold medalist ) of that competition. May God bless her.

@@andresgunther Very curious that you use the word "frightening" about the music of Kate Liu. But this is exactly the right word. The necessary word. Because how beautiful she is playing is not the matter. She brings to us another message. And this is : ""look how a work of music can be"" , this means the fatality, the last message, some respirations before a near death experience. Her feeling about music is an omen. Something very beautiful, but an ultimate message. I do not know what strange and dramatic valleys the girl has been travelling. But I fear deep depression or inner pain. Poor Kate, and how "happy" we are, to be allowed to hear her music .... This is 'frightening' ..... yes.

@ricardollaque73102 жыл бұрын
Creo que no es comparable con ninguna de las otras dos excelentes pianistas. Kate tien una belleza angelical
She is indeed a remarkable talent, especially for her age, yet, I find her tempo changes and rubatos a bit extreme. It will pull you in because of her generally great musicianship and emotional depth, but it really is a bit over the top with the random dramatic overly long pauses. The languishing pianissimos also bother me. They are too disruptive to the flow, and developmental tension tends to get dissipated somehow - I haven't analyzed and figured out yet exactly what it is that bothers me about that. On the positive side - it seems to me that if she will temper some of these tendencies, and what I might call "affectations", she will no doubt enter the pantheon of the greats in this generation. Does anyone care to add to or critique my comments here? It would be most appreciated...
