I had been thinking of trying to run this game, I had remembered that everything was pre-determined so my plan was to basically route and run a "set seed" by saving at the very beginning of the game after the tutorial zone, and just routing around bad events. I didn't imagine it could've been done in just over an hour though, and with RNG manip to boot! Haven't watched yet, and just found this video out of curiosity searching since it was on my mind. Can't wait to see how it goes!

Does swapping the cards for fights really matter? I don't have access to Dokapon right now but when I played it I remember each week having the card flips be predetermined regardless of if you swapped them or not. Why is it done in this speedrun? It clearly has some purpose I'm missing Also curious as to the reason for the buying then immediately selling 6 Crystals at 27:14 Okay actually referring to all the weird shop interactions

The weird shop interactions are RNG manipulation. I'm not sure why, but the game makes a call to RNG every time you buy an item so I used that to advance RNG. Swapping the fight cards actually does matter, they get randomly determined before you decide which one to pick. The reveal item in the game shows you what's going on with this. Since I'm manipulating RNG, I already know ahead of time which card goes first so I can swap or not to go first in every battle, which is what I do aside from a couple of weird exceptions which generally have to do with a specific strat where I lose the fight or some RNG manip shenanigans.

Just out of interest, in the beggining you run through 56 iterations of the menu which i imagine is to seed the RNG? but how/why is this working? like what is the game doing when you switch through those menus and how did you land on that number? is it just through trial and error and mapping the RNG route or are you calculating based off of some known principles? Also great run! :)

there are only 4096 values for rng, so I'm cycling through them to get to a pre-planned point for the run. I generate random NPCs to advance RNG, and check what the names are to figure out how close I am to where I need to be

That’s so interesting! so the names of the NPC’s basically tell youou what seed you’re on? And so when you mapped your run originally did you start by flicking through 56 iterations? Or did you just take note of the names when you started?

@@biznu07 I have a big spreadsheet that maps the sets of possible NPC names to what RNG value the game is on in order, and because there are so few possible values it almost always uniquely determines what seed you're on just by looking at one set of three names. The game starts with a random RNG seed so my process is to check where RNG is, reset for one that's decently close to what I need for the run, and iterate through menus to close the gap, Going into the "1 player vs 3 CPU" menu advances RNG by about 14 seeds, so going through 56 iterations advances RNG by about 800 or so seeds, which is what I needed to go from the starting value to the speedrun value

@@biznu07 that part in particular was figured out by using Lua scripts to scrape the data by brute force I did have to go dumpster diving into the assembly code to reverse engineer how the spinners work though

random question but which is the best class/srat in the game if you want to win story mode? (playing with friends)

Start as Thief, stealing ability is very powerful early game. Strike anything that is equivalent or greater strength than you, with the only exception being players and bosses with auto-counter. After you master thief, plan the rest of your game. Go magician if you want to rush alchemist and play more with field magic. Go warrior if you want to play offensively with weapons. Go cleric if you want to get statistically bulkier or go acrobat. Proceed to get lucky and take opportune fights, and fight for every castle like your life depends on it.
