I've played Wraith once and had a great time. My character was killed by a serial killer clown vampire. With a start like that how can you lose.

I never understood why Wraith never took off as much as the other games. I always loved the brooding atmosphere, & the whole concept of The Shadow was amazing.

Neither did I but everyone I did try to wrangle said it seemed depressing or they didn't like not being able to really interact with the environment to a significant degree.

This is a pretty good introduction to Wraith. Does anyone remember Orpheus ? You could play someone who enters the realm of the dead using tech or meditation and you were paid to solve problems caused by the dead (destroy a malevolent ghost haunting a hotel, talking to ghosts to make them reveal their secrets, looking for lost artifacts and tresures etc.). That was awesome.

I always like Wraith but it was very hard to get anyone to run it for more than a one off every now and then which was sad. Mage games never lasted very long either, but Vampire and Werewolf could go for months to years depending on who was running it and how good they were at directing a storyline. I had one friend that only ever ran Changling, but none of his games ever made it past 3 sessions.

To be honest Mage and Wraith were awesome games but mages and ghosts were more NPCs that the DM could use to change a bit from the eternal opponents in Vampire or Werewolf. They were meant to surprise the players who would encounter strange NPCs and places and have NO IDEA what they were.
