I love that you laugh when you make a mistake instead of getting angry/frustrated. This is the way of a mature man that I'm still working on.

What I appreciate most about your how-to's is that you show your "mistakes" like drilling through and the realities of the unexpected in projects.

It's good to share the challenges as you build including any "whoopsies." Lord knows I seem to have plenty of them in my projects. Thank you for taking us along on the journey for this project and I'm anxious to see the completed version.

Absolutely! The best way to learn is making your own mistakes, second best way is to watch someone else make mistakes. Some might argue it’s the the other way around but for most us making mistakes important part of the learning process.

i think smooth bottom or some kinda rails would be best. i imagine it makes it easier to slide in the back of a truckbed or van etc. rubber feet would snag on things and eventually brake off

Blocking the inside corners would add to stability and longevity. They don’t take up too much room inside either. Thanks for the entertaining information as always.

Growing up in a "camping" family we had 3 of these that my Dad made. A pretty simple way to limit the travel of the lid and front opening is to get some light duty chain and screw it into the wood. We used to put the camping boxes on those old aluminum fold up legs (sadly they are hard to find now) and the Paulin gas stove also had its own set. You could also get a large food grade plastic cutting board and attach it to the drop down door for food prep. And of course drill some side holes for authentic knotted rope handles! Looking good and waiting for the paint and stencils!

FYI- a tip for consideration: now that the middle shelves are in the bottom square bracing is not needed anymore. Ideally I'd imagine you'd want to be able to SLIDE that Dutch oven in off the flush prep surface right into the bottom of the box without lifting. Also- taking that approach to removing that bottom bracket means the height of implements stored on bottom can be equal to the true height of the bottom of box to bottom of middle shelf. Now its "stealing" 3" of height...

Add carry handles on the sides. Bolted through as it will carry alot of weight. I would also add some thin chain to support the down folding lid. That way it can be work top. Maybe add a sheet of some easy wipe food grade plastic sheeting-big cutting board surface. Lastly put on medium Dollie wheels so you can if its a flat surface you can push it around if stored - dont have to carry it but just push it

I’m telling ya, 34 years of scouting experience here…. ADD A LEG SOLUTION. Small slots added to the side allow you to use 2x4s with 45cuts. That way you have the option if needed but can use a table of space isn’t limited… BUT table space is almost always limited!

Those Colman stoves can be modified to burn diesel and kerosene. The atomizer tube can be coiled with copper wire to hold more heat. Allowing the diesel or kerosene to vaporize and burn cleaner. Just wrap some copper wire directly over the burner. Something like 12 to 16 gauge solid core wire.tough to light when cold but may save a life. God bless and stay frosty.

A self centering drill bit is the way to go with drilling hinges. just set it in the hole and it will naturally drill in the center of your hole. no more misaligned screws

You can't grow more fingers, so please use push sticks when using a table saw. Also since you decided to use pocket screws, instead of proper joinery, you should make sure to add corner braces to make the box stronger.

Funny I was going to suggest that colman stove green but never posted comment. perfect and clean color for camping,, BTW I have an awl or icepick I carry as a TOOL but for self defence and trust me they work quite well. But yes They come in handy as much as a knife for many things like you said and public doesnt have a karen when they see you with it... whats funny is when I open carry my hatchet I get less flak than a knive and sheeth?!?!?! public is ignorant
