The greatest joy a child can experience is the joy of success and accomplishment. As adults we often forget those feelings. Something as simple as the praise of assembling a kit like this can be a driver toward future goals and accomplishments. Today he's building a simple kit, perhaps in adulthood with motivation driven by that joy of success and experience learned he'll have a career building the technologies of the future or maybe even his own company. I'm always amazed by your parenting skills and how exceptionally respectful, intelligent and well spoken your son is. Just one of the many things that make your videos and channel so enjoyable. Thank you.

I was doing the same thing at your son's age. I worked at my dad's farm supply store during the summers, starting at the age of 6, assembling riding mowers, gravity boxes, driving the forklift and unloading delivery trucks. I also worked for a plumber on the weekends during school, and during summer baled hay, drove tractors plowing for farmers, etc. Best life experience ever.

Really like the plug for homeschooling. Not so much a plug, but it's not often that people speak about the benefits of careful, useful education of children. And maybe more so the concerns with the public education system and simply educating children to grade well on a specific set of questions. We educate our kids to past a particular test, and nothing beyond. So great to see someone with some audience and reach gently stating sentiments that I concern with entirely. We homeschool our 4 kids and after a few years (they started in a private Christian school) the benefits are more than we could have imagined. Long time subscriber, first time (I think) commenter. As always, great video. Much appreciated. Cheers!

One of the biggest challengers is to find and learn Real History. The PC textbooks have corrupted everything. I recommend the book "The Bad War" by M.S. King to learn the truth about WWII. Also General Butler's 1933 book "War Is a Racket."

Great to see a father and son working together. This is how I started with my father. He is a retired Contractor, but I pursued Automotive when I got old enough to work, but it's doing stuff like this that gives your kids that extra step ahead in life.

Cody, I've watched your videos for years and have always enjoyed them. You place a huge emphasis on wild land firefighting that I never really understood. Being, until recently, from Appalachia, it was always green and wet. Only real time we had fire scares was in the early spring and late fall. We arrived in Washington today. We are in the Yakima Valley. Man it's dry! Since we passed the Mississippi, I have seen very few naturally green fields. I understand the need for the precautions and preparations you have to make out her now. We got 60+ inches of precip a year where we lived. I have felt so parched out here in the west! Than you for helping to preserve and educate people on preservation!

I grew up in humble surroundings. I always had to make do with what is available. I think it helped me with problem solving. When I got to Medical School I was sort of mediocre at taking tests, but when I got out on the wards and had to think through things, I was head and shoulders above my colleagues.

So how well does it work in the winter months? Will it make coffee in the morning? Early morning? Can you bake bread? How well does it work with a Dutch oven? Does it have hot spots? Does it work better with blackened cookwear? Copper? Other cookwear? Looking forward to another great video on this cooker after you've used it for a while. Everything is good and exciting when you first buy something. I feel like every unboxing video should have a follow up video 6 months later. The truth of a thing usually takes at least as long or longer. Thanks for the hard work you and your family put forth making these videos. Your honesty is always appreciated.

The family fave is BBQ ribs, they cook till they just absolutely are falling off the bone tender. I am sure you will enjoy cooking with your solar cooker too.

This video is great. Dad giving over the assembly to son is wisdom in action. I have seen a bunch of videos where Jack is present but not very into the project. This time Jack was the most antimated that I have seen. There may be a lesson here. To spark Jacks interest in a project make simple bridge building into building a bridge over a deep canyon in order to save a whole town that is trapped or needs vital medicine etc, After raising three children of my own I found using their imagination sparked them often into action while learning. Great job Cody and the Mrs.

I am about 99% sure that the darkened reflective piece in the middle of the dish is there so you can look at it to see the position of the ray on the bottom of the pan in the reflection. You don't have to crouch as often and since it is darkened, it will be easier on your eyes.

I don't know if this has been mentioned but when I had looked at these before, the dark mirror in the center is used to aim the light onto the pan. It is darkened so that you can look at it to see the bottom of the pan and where the light beam is being concentrated. That way you don't have to bend over or kneel to adjust.

Hi! Cleaning is actually surprisingly easy. As the SolSource reflector is optical, you can apply the same techniques as if you were cleaning a window or eye glasses. Here`s what we recommend for our customers: Pour warm water over the reflective dish to wash away most non-oil dirt. For oil and hard-to-remove dirt, spray water and use a soft cloth with gentle or mild detergent, then rinse the soap off with water.

Have neighbor down the road who put theirs together inside and went to take it outside and they couldn't get it thru the door and had to take it apart and redo it outside. Thankfully French doors or sliding doors prevent that issue. As for cookware. Black heavy duty enamel cast iron is what my neighbor uses. And they use theirs even in winter as long as tthere is sunshine. Thank you for including the saying Grace at the end.

Wow, wish I had a knife like that (and a death ray) when I was Jack's age. I agree with the homeschooling comments, and could really have used someone telling me that same advice about pushing against binds, even just recently. My AR-15's back takedown pin was pushed through but the upper and lower wouldnt come apart. I figured out after youtube searching for hours that all i needed to do was jiggle it a bit. This was pretty good advice for taking apart the rest of the gun, particularly the bolt assembly. Great vid -J

Back when I was in high school a friend and I made a solar cooker like that for our physics class. We took an old 8' satellite TV dish and covered it in aluminum foil, being careful to keep the foil as smooth as possible. We set it up on the football field to try it out. Everyone else had the small little cookers, and we had to bring ours in with a pickup truck. It worked for a while, but then it got so hot that the aluminum bars that held the hot dogs melted! (They were the bars that held the actual antenna when it was still being used for TV.) It was hot enough that if you stuck your hand into the cook area it would burn you, and it'd do it darn quick too.

i agree 1221vito i was going to public school all my life and switched to homeschool because i was moving overseas so it was much more convenient for me and my family , in homeshcool you have a much more flexible schedule while in public its all the same yet in both you learn the same exact things, in both you learn how to solve problems on your own, ruben, but in home school i found it much easier to learn because it was a lot more flexible while in public it was more harder, but in the end its all the same things.
