Don't forget to weld the backs of the nuts on the trailer reciever. All the locks in the world won't stop someone from crawling under, wrenching the bolts off and replacing the entire reciever. 5 minutes of time and defeats almost every ball/hitch lock on the market. He literally began the episode by removing two bolts that held the coupler on. my guess would be that anyone with a tow vehicle capable of taking that trailer, could have a coupler on hand. A box wrench and impact drill would take less than 2 minutes to take off and replace. Throw the coupler lock in the back and go. That said, very little can stop a thief. I like to put a spud bar through the wheel rim. or a cable. Put a tag on your lock key as a reminder. Most thieves won't take the time to check the undercarriage. If they tow, the axle or wheels will most likely give, or stop the motion. If they break, the trailer will bottom out and cause all kinds of problems trying to unhitch. If they lock up the wheels, they will be bound and will take time to unbind. If you fix the wheels to bind, chances are they won't get anywhere fast.

Just buy sockets that have full lifetime. Than you can use whatever you want. If your worry is that you will damage the bolt, pretty sure you are either over torquing it or you might need a stronger bolt. I've used the same craftsman sockets with every impact ratchet and breaker bar i own and have yet to have one break on me. Not saying to buy the cheapest lifetime sockets you can find, but buy good enough, and don't worry about them. The day they break on you, you can take a break and go exchange it. As far as the east coast jokes. Some times I can admit it comes off a little personal, but in general I realize it is all in good fun. There are many things I think are poor decisions that those on the west coast make, but i would never point them out in a direct and cruel manner. In the Middle Ages, it was common for people to go to bed early, have a "first sleep," wake up for a few hours in the early morning hours, and then go back to sleep until their internal alarm clock sounded. They went to the toilet, chatted to bed-fellows, had sex, smoked tobacco, preyed or read. Some even visited neighbours during that early morning gap. Then they went back to bed to "second sleep". First and second sleep started to disappear during the late 17th Century. The practice of multiple sleeps gradually disappeared-first among the urban upper classes in northern Europe and over the course of the next 200 years filtered down to the rest of Western society.

I was very saddened to hear of your father's passing. I too lost my father back in 1992 and still miss him after all these years. Watching you work in your shop reminds me of my dad teaching me to weld and use a cutting torch when I was 12 years old. My parents started their married life in a 2-room house that was given to them as a wedding gift. Over the years, my dad never hired anything done. Therefore, it seemed that I always had a tool belt around my waist as we made improvements to the home. My mom just celebrated her 83rd birthday and still lives in that same home to this day. I share these things just to let you know that there are many of us men who are carrying on the legacies that our father's left us. Another common thread that binds you and I is our strong faith in the Lord. Without Jesus Christ, I am nothing and I know you feel the same way. Even though I do not own a homestead, I still enjoy watching you create and improve yours. I will lift you up in my prayers and wish you and your family God's richest blessings. Keep sharing your KZbin channel as it brings me and others a great deal of enjoyment (and I learn a lot of new things as well). God Bless!!!

I see locks as time buying devices. So that the amoung of time and level of noise the larva has to take and do is such that I give me time to notice and react. Its 2021, thieves have 60v battery tools..

Between 0300 and 0330 even when I am up past midnight. Usually I go back to sleep just a few minutes later but sometimes that's just gonna be it for sleep that night. I'll pay more attention.

Cody I am curious if you have seen an increase in horse ownership where you live. In our area the local Mennonites in the Angeles Camp (CA) have seen an increase in the number of English (non Mennonites) wanting small buggies. Horse and buggies on the roadways have increased. Owning a buggy that can be drawn by a horse, donkey, if you have land could be a wise choice if one lives within 10-15 miles of a town.

Your weakest link now is your bolts holding your hitch on simply weld the nuts to bolt

The bolts plus that is also a easy lock to pick :)

That looks awesome. I currently use a ball hitch lock (mediocre), a latch lock (meh), and two wheel chock locks and put both on the same side. That way, if they think, oh I'll just remove the tires, but then the right side would be without the two tires. Your massive lock is better than my four locks combined but seems to be every bit as cumbersome. I think I have a neighbor with a plasma torch or other means to modify if necessary. I'll look into it. Thank you.

I didn’t know you weren’t supposed to use chrome sockets with an impact wrench. If the east coast guys loose their sense of humor, feel free to poke fun at Midwest, Cincinnati city dwellers.
@Z3n1tHL0rD3 жыл бұрын
should only use impact rated sockets on an impact gun , 6 sided preferably as the 12 sided ones can round off

you poke fun at us Midwest no-cost folks and it is like water on a ducks back. We hardly notice.

Regular chrome sockets aren't rated for the stress, you need impact rated sockets. They're the matte black sockets with thicker walls.

Cody here on the east coast the thieves are also carrying the portion of the trailer you removed with the impact and chrome socket. They unbolt that section let it hit the ground with the lock attached then bolt the one they brought with them to your trailer and hook up and away they go. I would suggest a couple of spot wields around the bolts so they can’t unbolt that section very easily.

That 3am hour I've always heard as "The Witching Hour" for the same reasons you describe. In medieval times, Christians would pray at multiple times during the day (the Divine Office) including waking around 2-3am to do Matins (singing hymns, praying/reciting certain Psalms, etc). It's neat to hear that discussed on this channel. God bless!

If I wake up at night, there's usually someone on my mind, so I pray for that person. Have had several people tell me later they were in dire need of prayer at that time. No coincidence. BTW, that's the same type of lock I use... If you give the company the key number, you can put the same lock on all of your stuff & only need one key. (Plus, if you call the company BEFORE you order, then they'll let you know which hitch cover will fit your specific trailer tongue, and if they're wrong, they'll replace it at their cost... not so if you don't call first. ALWAYS call them first.)

Hey Cody, my deepest condolences. I've been following the channel for many years now but often watch on my gaming console or apps which don't support comments, this is the first video watched on a desktop since the sad news. No need to respond, but wanted to add my voice of support for your family. Stay strong, and thank you for all that you do.

2:30, In all my time with trailers I never thought to look underneath to see how the hitch works, thanks for this
@samwilliams93747 ай бұрын
The quickest way to break into that is what you did in the very beginning as a ring an impact with your battery powered one and just unscrew mouth and bowls, and bring your hitch with you and put it in his place and screw it back down, leaving the lock system sitting on the ground where the trailer was. But proven industries does make a lock system that covers the head of those bolts as well. I am learning.

I am nowhere near as devout as you. As an East coast guy, I will not hold it against you. You did although, strike the hot iron today as I watched this. I wake up every night between 2 and 4 am. I now know why. Keep sending your message there are people listening. I feel your pain with the passing of your father. But if I can give you the advise I live by, we begin to die from the moment we are born. Every day in between is a blessing.

Hello Cody. Around here we have a lot of oil field equipment and sites. Home owners on farms and acreages are installing large pipe gates on their driveways and land entrances. 4 inch surplus pipe is quite cheap and makes great gates. Then a little ditch maintenance is done to make a moat adjacent to these gates. Opening and closing a gate to go somewhere can slow you down and be a pain but it is better than finding someone has made off with your hard earned stuff.

I recently saw a video that explained how people used to sleep before the industrial revolution, and they described people sleeping in two stages, first sleep, second sleep where they woke up in the middle of the night for about 2 to 4 hours and then went back to bed.
