Wrapping bales with our new Anderson individual bale wrapper

We took the new bale wrapper out for a spin to wrap our fall rye silage bales. Things have been busy on the farm lately so we are behind on our video uploads! It has been a big learning curve to use the new wrapper but we are in good shape now after finishing the fall rye. Hopefully the bales ensile well. Fingers crossed!

its so bizzar to say that I am familiar with these two particular pieces of equipment due to a videogame and how realistically it reprocudecess the process they take but its nice to see just how much finense is actually required to operate the real deal without all the games QOL features such as it automatically placing the bale in the lift and doing all the lever work for getting the bale lifted and wrapped and deposited. IDK if I could ever do that full or part time but it would be fun to give a try some day just to get a full understanding of what it really takes to do something like this as a career

Thanks for watching! That's very neat that a video game would feature a bale wrapper since it's more specialized type of equipment. There are lots of career options in agriculture other than owning a farm for yourself. Working on farms as an employee is a great way to learn a large range of useful skills.

I love seeing this! Great way to make silage for your herd size. How knives do they run in the baler?

I believe that baler has a total of 16 knives and you have the option of all in or half in

Does it need to have so many layers to accomplish the wrap? It was 100% covered in 8 rotations but continued on to make 21 full turns. Seems a bit excessive, but maybe the film is too thin and weak for protection with just the 8 turns that completely covered it?

yes, 100% coverage doesnt mean anything. you want it to be fully airtight. even after it has sagged abit. any leak will lead to mold and loss of forage quality overall. and its counted in nnumber of full layers. for a long time it was standard to run 6 layers on silage bales here in my parts of norway but last few years thats grown to 8 layers to be sure and prevent quality loss. 7 layers on our combi baler that has 2 "satelites" is 16 rounds (8 layers = 8+8 rounds and we add 1 more round to get that halfway around before it counts) note that the satelites spins around the bale and not the other way around so not 1:1 compared to this style of wrapper. and this is almost controversial but hay makers around here apply from 12 to 16layers of wrap each haybale. partly to be 100% of airleaks etc but also to make em able to survive handling multiple in logistics regarding sale and transport and to still be good 1y later. standard filmwrap thickness is 25my, atleast here but you can get down to 19my. personally i prefer 21my as this is enough in my experience and i get a few hundred meters more pr roll which equals more bales before running out. thickness has nothing to do with airleak, but a little bit with restinant vs scuffs and they can be "pre" stretched abit more too. its whatever suits your conditions and needs really. theres 2 11y old vids on my channel where you can also see it. poorly made ones ik but i was testing it out, also was doing widefilm /film on film back then too as the few first ones. kzbin.info/www/bejne/joGtaKajeN-qpqM heres a video a friend of mine made when he was driving with us during silage ^^

We will hopefully bale oat silage on another field, and we planted millet on part of this field so we will bale that for silage as well.

That screeching noise you hear is the plastic film. It was a very sticky brand of film and we switched to a different brand and had better luck. So nothing wrong with the machine!
