What about applying primer on concave area behind handle? Do we also need to post heat? In my opinion heat and stretching the film in such a small area would end popping up in a couple days. Please advice

When I started doing business in 2003, I used to do the installations that way, but it was a bit tricky when cut, is much riskier and longer process, then decided to remove the handles, mirrors and moldings they were easy to disassemble, in my experience it is better to take longer if the final work will be superior... but great job !!!

Erik, We agree that if you are able, removing the handles is the best option for the best results. Unfortunately, it's not always an option. Thanks for the feedback.

ORAFOL Americas Inc when it comes to time and money, this option is better. I will not waste time removing hardware for the same buck, maybe if this were a sports car instead of a work vehicle then I would take time and remove everything I can.

For me it’s a matter of time vs money on commercial jobs. If the handle comes out with one screw then of corse I’ll remove it. If I have to drop the door panel and remove the window to get to the handle assembly on a commercial wrap that pays 600.00 for a partial wrap over the handles. Guess what? I’m doing this. It’s the best looking way. The body line hides the seam and it never fails. Most customer don’t even know there is a seam there. To top it off there is no stretch marks around the handle. All color changes get the handles removed. Pay attention to what is said on the video.

What about handle lights and touch sensor to unlock?

Ok everyone that says just take out the handle...it’s one screw... pay attention please. We would never wrap a vehicle with the handles on if they come off with one screw. I would never do a color change with a handle on the car. Their are many good ways to wrap handles and this technique works perfectly in cases where you have to go over a handle or object that cant be removed. Like a partial commercial wrap that has limited pay and the door panel needs removing and glass dropped out in order to pull the handle. If you remove the handle for the same pay went it takes two or more extra hours total then congratulations! The 1/8” lap is no different than an inlay on a bumper! It’s right on the body line so reflections hide it better than any other option. Fingernails don’t hit it like a seam behind the handle. Also you don’t have to stretch as much to make a seam behind the handle so it’s more secure. The material around the handle is not stretched at all and it looks super clean especially in a busy commercial wrap.

I don't get why sometimes wrappers take out every element, like de door handle or lights and sometimes they just do it with everything on, without taking off the elements.

In my opinion removing when necessary makes for a cleaner install, even though it can be done without removal

Why u not remove the handle?

Good job for a handles in wrap, would only do this if the handles can't be taken out though, otherwise its just lazy wrapping. Unfortunately this is how more and more full wraps are being done because many wrappers wont strip the cars of badges, handles lights and do it properly.
@ORACALUSA6 жыл бұрын
This is a good technique for commercial wraps. We wouldn't recommend it for a color change wrap.

Why wouldnt you just remove the handle? Who wants a 1/8 inch overlap right beneath their door handle? Terrible technique. All the people saying its great know nothing about vinyl graphic installations and the correct way to apply it.
@ORACALUSA5 жыл бұрын
Hi DecalMan, thank you for your question. We agree that when possible, removing the door handle is a best practice method. However, not all automotive makes and models allow for that approach. This technique is best used when removing a door handle is not possible.
@DecalGuy775 жыл бұрын
@@ORACALUSA if removing the door handle isnt possible, which is pretty rare, then putting the overlap behind the door handle would make alot more sense then having it in plain view. When you trace with the grease pencil measure to the center of the handle and make a straight cut there, directly behind the handle. That way it's out of sight. Why wouldnt you guys teach that instead?

@@ORACALUSA Thank you but I've been a graphic installer for 15+ years and Lowen Certified for 3. I actually have some violet metallic Orafol vinyl arriving this week. Hopefully it wraps as good as Avery.

@@DecalGuy77, with that much experience you should consider attending the next ORAFOL Vehicle Wrap Certification Course. That's great to hear that you will be applying ORAFOL vinyl this week. I assume that you will be using ORACAL 970RA. Feel free to call our technical support team before the installation (1-888-672-2251 ). They are happy to discuss the differences in applying our material compared to the competitive brands. For example, one of the many differences is the amount of heat our material can handle versus the competitive brands. Just a thought... Good luck with your install.
