oh wow, that's honestly pretty logical. i guess the sentries can only identify the faces and bodies, unless if they are wearing stuff that can hide their hostility, if that makes sense of course

9:54 we can see here that the distorted pyros act as bullet absorbers,they are clearly extremely durable against bullets and other ranged stuff but they are incredibly weak to melee attacks,this could mean that the distorted have different infected classes have different specialties,so far,only the distorted pyros and scouts have a specialty,pyros,to be extremely bullet absorbent but incredibly melee weak.

However,I do not think distorted pyros are varients,but instead are just distorted this way,they are durable naturally,not by the walkers flashes.

They are also possibly meant to be bullet absorbent to act as meat shields,this way,they could possibly protect or get in the way of other distorted,to prevent drone casualties and deaths.

Another thing to add,the scout acts as a extremely fast distorted as well as dodging attacks,like the hunter from L4D2,the scout leaps,this could be a specialization to scout or just dodge while also being extremely lightweight,act as the first wave before the stronger distorted come into play.

Those are (relatively, considering what they are) normal goggles, and shades didn't help against the Distortion flash. I think you'd need some specialized lenses for that.
