Can someone explain how clutch is used in those cars? Seems to use it together with handbrake, but from this video it seems like those actions aren't done at the same time. Maybe the cameras aren't synced perfectly, then it makes sense.
@krzych91krk6 ай бұрын
In these cars clutching in is not needed to use the handbrake. Use of handbrake automatically disconnects the rear drive. Clutch is only used in tight hairpins to prevent the engine from stalling when wheels are turning slowly

@@krzych91krk clutch is also used in hairpins as a "clutch kick" sometimes to get a bit more rotation or keep the engine from bogging down if particularly slow
@larszenthio10126 ай бұрын
They only use the clutch when putting in first gear and when they have to use the handbrake. It's almost like driving a SAAB 96 V4 (2-stroke) when you only use the clutch when first gear is engaged. When driving on the freewheel, no clutch is needed when shifting to 2nd, 3rd and 4th and down to second. 😎👍

What's the purpose of using the clutch during tight corners? Does it help with accelerating from slower speeds or something like that?
@davelucas73376 ай бұрын
Stop the car from stalling.
@lazyboxfish71136 ай бұрын
Exactly. Used so that the engine is in the power band on corner exit. The car is still moving fast enough where stalling is generally not an issue.

@Cr4z33_YT6 ай бұрын
So how does this WRC car gearbox actually work? I am confused right now...
@lazyboxfish71136 ай бұрын
It is a sequential. You use the clutch to get the car moving in first gear and otherwise you won't need it unless you're doing a clutch kick. Shifting works by using the lever closest to the steering wheel. Pulling the lever shifts up, pushing the lever shifts down. Most race cars either use sequential or manual gearboxes. Most modern race cars with sequential gearboxes have paddles on the steering wheel to shift gears, however, the current regulations don't allow Rally1 cars to use them.

The original Rally Australia (in Perth, Western Australia) during the early 1990's started the super-special stage as a highlight of the whole rally... the super-special was held in Langley Park which was a huge open park set right between the middle of the city and the Swan River ... the stage was a figure-8 with a huge jump / tunnel at the crossover and the city business district as a backdrop ... two cars started the stage together (in separate lanes) and the start and stop was on the main tarmac road that ran parallel the river... they then turned right into the park, completed the figure 8 and then exited back onto the tarmac road and crossed the finish line ... a great stage and a great rally.
