Great video, but you have not explained anything. When the timing marks didn't line up on the cams, what did the other mechanic suggest to remedy the problem?

IMPORTANT - Mark, at 17:23 you say that the chain is still lined up, but the mark on the sprocket is not the same as when you shoved us right after the chain was put on @ 11:17 - I just noticed it because of my OCD and want you to know that it could be the reason if the fault persists. Thanks for your amazing videos and I hope you get the car fixed.

This is the Gamma type engine that mount the expensive CVVT system. With older Kappa engine the cost of timing kit is 66% less .

Good job on the timing chain mate, just a thought but did you test both of the vvt solenoids when you removed them from the engine? I had a similar problem on an i10 before and it was caused by a faulty intake vvt solenoid, if you connect one pin to positive and the second pin to the negative terminal on a 12V battery the piston inside should move if it’s working correctly, just be careful the wires on the solenoid pins don’t touch

Doing one of these at the moment when cranked by hand by crank pulled just before the lobe of the cam crossed the bucket it looses tension and skips a tooth when it passes over it, any tips ?
