You are amazing mate. The amount of mechanical problems you can remember coming across previously, and you can remember what is probably bust and how to fix it staggers me. Myself, I put my keys down in my shed this morning, took me almost 6 hours to find them!!! Your projects must cover around 170 years, all that plus earning a living too, well done and greetings from Scotland 👍🏻👍🏻

That Unit Crane rescue was top-notch viewing! One of my all-time favorite Jonathan W playlists. The "When In Doubt, Build it Stout!" ethos was in full effect on that truck frame.

I wouldn't say that you've done stupid stuff, Jonathan. I mean, you needed a crane, and you resurrected one. That was a good series, and this towbed swap is just as good. I think a brake component has broken inside the drum, and hangs up the axle on forward motion only. I'm sure you can fix it. 👍

You are a master of solving problems. Sometimes you have either build something or bring it back from the grave, but if it makes sense to you and it works out then that's what you had to do. That crane was a great investment for you and so will this wrecker. It will give you options on doing things you want to do. Looking forward to the next video.

The crane wasn't a stupid idea. It has proved itself to be a tough and dependable unit. You needed it, and if you ever need it again, you know where to find it. In fact I'm surprised it didn't get used to lift the tow truck beds.

If I had a dollar for every time you said "not a problem ", we would both be rich. The amazing thing is that you are always right. It never is a problem. The UNC owes you a honorary PHD in Engineering. And it's well-deserved just based on your practical knowledge. The things it would take a doctorate to figure out using formulas and calculations, you know instinctively just based on hands on knowledge. You continue to amaze me.

I think what you need is a WW2 tank retriever. Basically a tank without a turret on it and it has a very heavy duty boom. A strip mine my father-in-law worked for had one they used to pull out stuck Cat dozers. It was a heck of a lot of fun to drive around in the dirt too

I'm sure you've figured it out by now but your brake springs are broken and letting the shoes act as a sprag. Sometimes if you have a leaky wheel cylinder it makes the shoes extra sticky and compounds the sprag effect... Just needs cleaned and new hardware and you'll be golden. Thanks for taking us along!

Excellent video Johnathan W :) also amazing on 2 the 2 beds of Wreckers also on Chevrolet truck check on dauls ring plate that splits 2 wheels it maybe did put plus right why won't turn on back left 2 wheels right for Foward and backwards in Reverse seen that happen before! Also stronger frame supports sounds like person doing lots heavy duty weights tow vehicles or plus when GMC and Chevrolet had frame problems in early 2000 years when Bend in V or Broken back brand new ! You must remember that horrible problems in Gas or Desiel motor one's plus Z71 in 2 to 4 doors plus 2 or 4×4 versions of 1/2 , heavy duty 1/2 called 5/8 , 3/4 , 1 tons ! The other thing on frame make stronger was the company or owners of Chevrolet tow truck haul vehicles like Cube Vans had cargo in weights was on limits truck do or haul lots stake trucks too like 3 to 6 tons of highway when Broken down ! impressive what did I say for sure ! Hope my ideas help you out too !

Holmes did make that bed in a 74" wide version for the 220 or 440 but most of them were 86" for dual wheels. I have never seen a 74" wide bed but they do mention it in the factory literature as being available.

I really would like to talk with Johnathan about an old car, I hate modern vehicles and looking for something old; I have no plans of restoring anything all the way back, I am old school kind of man and like simple things. I go to town maybe twice per month that bad thing is I live in Southern Indiana, wish I knew you when I lived in S. Carolina. I had a Ford truck a 1960 and I tried everything to get the left front wheel to roll and an old friend of mine told me it was probably the break line going to the wheel and when that was replaced it turned, I know Fords are really bad for that problem with the rubber break line breaking down on the inside like a flap and when you press on the break the fluid cannot come back up the line for release. I have never run into that problem again to this day but when you said you could not figure out why the wheel was locked up I though I would have you try that rubber hose to the hub. I love your shows! That old '49 Dodge I would love to talk shop with you about that car cause I have been looking for one like my Dad had but his was a '50 but in the late 1950's when he would go some where my brother and I would have to stand up behind the drivers seat because those old coupes come without a back seat; I am looking for one to drive and do not care of the looks of it. I am an expert with Bondo...

the suspension on those trucks is not good for a wrecker where the back either has no weight or a ton of weight. The tires go up and down on an arc. On the chevy it actually has proper suspension geometry
